My .30 cal FX Crown!

Hi Guys,
Hynzie posted about Utah Airguns having the Crowns in Walnut in 30 cal.
I had only had my .25 Royale 500 for a couple months but after talking to Austin over at U.A. I had to have one.

He asked if I wanted it tuned. I asked how much and he said it was included in the price. So why not.
He also sent pictures so I could pick the stock I wanted.

She came in on Tuesday and it was too late in the day for me to shoot, so I got the first shot with it on Wednesday.
Just a little shooting to get the scope close.

Come Thursday I wanted to see what she would do and get a shot string across the chronograph.
Damn this is a fine shooter.
The chrono showed immediately that she shoots 9 fps extreme spread for 45 shots and falls off the reg on shot 46.
Perfect tuning as far as I am concerned.
Here is the excel sheet and a graph. Oh yeah 77.31 ft. lbs peak!

It is also a looker I looked at the Crown side by side with the Royale and
the Crown just looks a little less chunky.
The stock is a little shorter under the tank and the checkering is a little less
prominent.
Overall I like the appearance although I do miss a couple touches like
the Rosewood cap on the bottom of the stock, and the polished bluing that you
see on the barrel of the Royale.
Here are some pics.

So the important question can she shoot?
Here is the limits of my range, it is just about 30 yards.

I will soon take her out for the workout she deserves but for now, being time limited, backyard shooting will have to do.
That Hawke 10-50x60mm ED scope give a nice view of the little bitty circles at the other end.
I typically use 25 meter 9 and 10 ring only targets so I can focus only on the minimum standard I have for my shooting.
USARB 9 rings only measure .31495 so keep that in mind. I will have to measure my target as they look slightly larger.
All of the following shots are 5 shot groups except 2 far right one on the first row and third one on bottom row it was so far off that I did not want to waste ammo making a large hole.

Closer look at a couple of good groups.

I have seen better shooting but believe me it is not the guns fault.
One with the 30 cal pellet for scale.

My thoughts on this Airgun.
Exquisite consistency and accuracy.
I see a small amount of cost cutting from the Royale to get at the price point. (the items I mentioned above.)
I am still getting use to the trigger but I will soon see if I can lower the trigger weight as it is a little heavier than I am use
to. All my airguns with the exception of the Prosport measure under a pound and 1 lb. 2 oz. this one feels a lot heavier
than it is.
It shoulders beautifully and the bolt is silky smooth.
Looking forward to a lot of pleasurable shooting with this Airgun.

BETTER AND BETTER ,,,thats where this rifle is heading ,,great pics love the graphs ,, puts you right there,,consistent ,,gotta like it good job with the groups ,,keep posting , we have all been waiting for some one to dig in and really break the CROWN down,,the target you have.. the top,,is that a handle,,looks like the top of a 2 wheeler,,i got some JSB 51s for my RAW ,,,,waiting for my trigger to come back to use,,Wonder how well they will perform in the Crown,,i never sorted weighed and washed any pellets,, do you ,, im gonna try at least a few ,,guys are getting better groups good luck my friend PAT

"jorgemac"Hi Terrymc. great gun the Crown .30.
¿What bar was the filling measure and the bar measure in the shoot #45?
Thanks.
Hi Jorgemac,
I started at 250 bar and shot down to the point it drops off the regulator at 150 bar.

That i something that I forgot to mention in my review.
While easy to read the gauges look to read a little high compared to the one I have on my tank.
When my tank shows I have 150 bar both gauges on the rifle are at approx 155 bar which is the regulator set point since it drops off right there.

I will eventually try the 50 gr pellets I knew I was going to need some time to learn the gun so I decided to start with one weight and get a feel for everything before
complicating things. Who knows it may break 80 ft lbs. with the 50's

My pellet trap is an electrical junction box 12"x12"x6". It is made of 16 gauge steel and since the cover is not needed it is screwed onto the back
for a double layer of 16 gauge steel.
The handle came from my old wood pellet trap, and is convenient to move this heavy beast.
The reason it is heavy is it is packed with approximately 20 lbs of duct seal, which is like modeling clay.
This acts to slow the pellets down as they hit the target.
This also tends to trap the pellets so over time this pellet trap has gained a lot of weight.
It has probably 10,000 rounds of .22 in there based on the empty tins in my garage.

It is time to clean it out and reinforce the back with some 12 gauge I have in the garage,
that should get rid of the dents the 30 cal has been making in the 2 sheet of 16 guage.

People think airguns are just BB guns until I show them what they do to 2 layers of steel, after being slowed down by clay!

Okay for another little outing today with the Crown.
Nothing serious today just some pleasure shooting.
Had the wife shoot it today (yes 2D1C all is good there)
She said it is much less frustrating for her to shoot this one from the bench than the others.
She proved it by shooting less than 3 tenths of an inch, outside to outside, for 5 shots. She did have a smirk on her face after that one.

But it seemed to have a little more impact today, so I got curious.

HOLY CR&^ BATMAN!
IT GAINED 20 FPS OVER THE LAST 100 ROUNDS.
And it was not a fluke, I shot 25 rounds and found they all fell between 885 and 901.
Oh yeah and that works out to 80.68 ft lbs, Dammmn!

The bad is this is what happens when you hit the same spot too many times.
Remember this is 2 sheets of 16 gauge steel. Guess I will be doing 2 sheets of 12 gauge steel plus 1 sheet 16 gauge.

And this is what a 5 shot group looks like when you don't have to deal with paper tearing.

Yeah it blew the back out of the 3/4" MDF like it was not even there.

You're going to need something like that. I did mine with steel 5mm, and only have .25 ;)

Very nice. Thanks for taking the time to fill us in on the Crown 30 cal. I've been waiting to see if they are as accurate as the 25 and it looks as though they are. I really considered getting the 30 and this is just more evidence that it could be the right decision. If I just had a place to shoot at 50 and 100 that was convenient, Like my back yard or something, I would already have one. :)
And, you didn't mention the sound. If is relatively quiet?

Nice shooting and thank you for sharing the info.

Hi Crusher,
Yeah I wish I had a yard big enough to stretch 50 or a hundred but sometimes you work with what you have and go to the range when you have time.
But at least even at 30 yards I can get a feel for the gun and get use to the differences between it and my other guns.
Things like the trigger that I still want to tweak as it is heavier than I like for bench work. Smooth but heavy.
If I can get the release of my S510 I will be happy.

Good point on the sound. I forgot to go into that one.
It is not really that loud especially for something that is putting out this level of energy.
I would compare it to my .22 S510 with no Moderator on it, just the shroud.
The pellets hitting the target are louder than the gun itself, even with all the clay packing.
I would not like to hear how loud it would be shooting into steel without the packing, it would be loud.
I am going to work on another pellet trap design here soon as this one is obviously beyond its limits.

That s what I have. My yard allows 30 yards. I have plenty of fun with that. I do have opportunity to shoot on my work property, but it is somewhat less convenient.

If you want a really quiet backstop, you should try the one I am using. I make it from a 12x12x10 cardboard box (available online for 80 cents each). You buy a .8 cu ft bag of rubber mulch (wood will NOT work) for about <$10 and fill the box and tape it shut. I find my 25 cal pellets stopped in the first 3" of rubber. And it is claimed this box will stop an AR 5.56 at 50 yards. I would bet money that it will stop your 30 cal easily. And the best part, it is SILENT.. :) And when I shoot the side of the box all up, I just throw tape over it, turn the box and go some more.
And after 1000 shots or so and the box get a little ragged, I just get another box and pour the contents into the new box and we are ready to go again. Easy. :) Clearing out the old pellets is optional.
