You can buy fancy powered sharpening tools and jigs. I usually sharpen by hand, and leather strop after. Either way if it shaves, it's sharp...

Getting tarnish off the shiny bits. Some dull spots on the lever cap will remain where the original nickel plating has worn through.

Looks like I need to look into being robbed by my local woodcraft store. After a bunch of research the plane is a type 4 produced from 53-65, and the knob and tote are made from Goncalo wood(tigerwood). Gonna see if they have a piece i can make both out of so the have nice matching color and grain. The front knob is not in bad shape but upon removal has some cracks in the base.
