📈 How to Calculate a Custom Drag Model (CDR)

Does the software let you begin with a standard drag model? If so you can compare your velocity to the calculated velocity, and where your data is different, begin increasing or decreasing drag coefficient at that velocity.

For the very blunt projectiles mentioned try using the wadcutter reference drag law as the starting point. You will then have to model each short distance between measured velocities one at a time, adjusting the drag law up or down to get a match. Start with the highest velocities. Once you have the first pair of velocities matched, move on to the second pair and repeat, but do not change the drag coefficient you got for the first pair. Do this along your trajectory until you have drag coefficient values for each part of the trajectory. It is quite likely that you will end up with values varying wildly from one speed to the next, so what you will have to do then is plot all the values you have calculated and put a best fit line through the data by eye, do not try to use a curve fitting routine from the spreadsheet.

When you have finished, try out your result and tweak to get the closest you can to the measured velocities. Hopefully this will get you somewhere close to what you want, but it may need a bit more work.

If you need more help, PM me.

Good luck.

THANK YOU, David and Miles, thanks a lot!!

Yes, this looks like a doable plan. 😊
I already imported the WC₀ drag model into Strelok Pro.

Tuxting double piston models ??

Are the two gold tube filters on this model adequate by themselves or do you run additional filtration?
yes and yes. I do run a Molecular sieve just out of paranoia after the first two, I bleed the first one every 5 minutes. I'm in a moderate low humidity area but recently we've been 45-55% humidity. My only gripe is they definitely don't want you taking those filters apart, it's a common issue from my experience. After 2 years I've yet to see any sign of moisture getting through. I run Seco Lube for oil, it doesn't take much to fill it so be careful, go slow, a gallon will last longer than the compressor most likely. I use it about 3x month to refill my 70cf tank and occasionally my guns before I head out.

Do you have lasers or Flashlights on your PCP?

Delooper, that's an interesting post. Could you let me know what laser you have that you can adjust the beam diameter? Tks.

Here it is:

4 different BBs, 3 different barrels — accuracy with Daisy 499B airgun

Res ipsa loquitur: smaller numbers = tighter groups

I think I’ll go with Barrel 3 and the inexpensive Daisy Precision Max BBs (or Hornady Black BBs) for every day offhand 5 meter shooting.

It seems clear that Barrel 1 (the original barrel that came with the 498B) is the least accurate with any BB, so I’m happy I sprung for the 2 other Barrels (sold by Daisy for only $12 each plus shipping).

It seems also clear that Daisy Unplated Shot is an excellent BB in all the barrels (but the most expensive of the lot at about 1¢ per round). I’m not so impressed with Daisy Precision Ground Shot (often touted as the BB made specifically for the Daisy 499B smooth bore “rifle”).

The good news: all this shooting cost me well under $4 for the ammo. Gotta love shooting steel BBs!

Accessories  WTS Huma FX Impact High Flow Dual Hole Transfer Port

This is for .22 caliber which adds about 176% surface enlargement for more air flow.

"The successor to Huma-Air's high flow dual hole transferport; they have managed to optimize and even enlarge the air passage in this new version 2 of our High Flow V2 Dual Hole Transferport. The V-shaped transfer opening makes sure you will have the maximum and smoothest air passage area. The middle support bridge divides the transfer port into a dual hole port. This middle bridge makes sure the pellet or slug nose cannot fall into the enlarged transferport hole, but will be guided smoothly by the middle bridge into the barrel.

This dual hole transfer port has much larger air passage area compared to the oem port for maximum perfomance."

Pairs perfect with the Huma High Flow Pellet + Slug Probe I have posted for sale too

Kalibrgun  What's with the new model SNIPE?

Review of the Kalibrgun Snipe Air Rifle

The Kalibrgun Snipe air rifle, specifically the .22 caliber version with a 700mm (27.5 inches) barrel, was put through a rigorous test of 12,000 shots. This review encapsulates the performance, handling, and versatility of this rifle based on extensive usage.

Performance and Reliability
One of the standout features of the Kalibrgun Snipe is its regulator, which reliably functions between 30 to 200 bar (435 to 2900 psi). Experimentation beyond the recommended pressure up to 250 bar (3625 psi) showed that the rifle could handle extra stress without any issues, a testament to its robust construction. The rifle achieves a notable velocity of 407 m/s (1335 feet per second) using standard 1.03g pellets, highlighting its capability for both recreational shooting and more serious target practice.

Accuracy and Handling
Accuracy is where the Snipe truly shines. When the pellet speed and weight are optimally matched, the rifle performs exceptionally well. During testing, precision shots were successful in progressively smaller targets, from thin branches under 5mm (0.2 inches) to a thicker 5cm (2 inches) stem, merely by adjusting the regulator pressure. This level of accuracy makes it suitable for detailed and controlled shooting scenarios.

Design and Ergonomics
Despite encountering an issue with O-rings popping out due to insufficiently secured loading levers, the resolution was straightforward—ensuring the lever was properly locked. The rifle's light weight contributes to its fun factor and ease of handling. However, there are areas for improvement in design. For enhanced stability, particularly when shooting with a bipod, it would be beneficial to allow for the bipod mount to be moved further forward. Additionally, introducing accessories that could add more weight to the front part of the rifle could help in balancing and stabilizing the gun during extended shooting sessions.

Versatility
The Snipe's magazine system is versatile, accommodating both a small reversible magazine and a larger capacity option—the latter being preferable for its convenience and extended shooting capability without frequent reloads.

Conclusion
Overall, the Kalibrgun Snipe air rifle is a formidable choice for anyone looking for a lightweight, accurate, and versatile airgun. Its ability to handle a wide range of pressures, combined with high velocity and pinpoint accuracy, makes it a reliable tool for both hobbyists and more dedicated marksmen. With a few adjustments in design and additional accessories, it could enhance its usability and comfort further, making an already great rifle even better.

Low End Vs High End Bipods

I have the cheapest one I could find that had s-lock (a must have imo) and a sling stud adaptor included. I think it's a knockoff of a Harris. I've removed the whole tensioning system and and can bolt it directly to the adaptor. So far it has worked decently fine although I've had to fix some stuff. I guess that proves it's quality. Not a deal-breaker to me.

ALL NEW FX KING

I wonder if MPA or another chassis maker will make a chassis for it like they did the raw? 🤔

Allen

Oh here is the pic of the MPA chassis for the RAW.

I love my RAW. Best gun around and no need to tune the heck out of it to shoot right. I just wish this chassi was that much $. Seems like a lot for that

Do you have lasers or Flashlights on your PCP?

I have a bunch of lasers and flashlights, but most of the time my guns are used for pesting, so I don't need them.

I tend to strap a laser on my rifles when I do the first sighting-in. I'm lazy and I forget which direction the sights move when I turn the knob clockwise or counter-clockwise, so having the laser pointer as a reference helps.

With my IR scope I have an IR laser than I sometimes like to use. It's good to have extra queues for knowing how far the target is. On my thermal scope it has a rangefinder built in, so there's really no need for a laser pointer.

On my Crosman 1322 pumper, I do use a laser. I hadn't seen anything like it before. It allows you to adjust the diameter of the beam. So I like to adjust the beam diameter to be roughly about as large as my groups. Makes aiming very easy.
Delooper, that's an interesting post. Could you let me know what laser you have that you can adjust the beam diameter? Tks.

Official Thread - Alkin owners - check in!

Thanks guys I got my Horizontal and vertical mixed up, To much work and not enough sleep will do that to me, 12 years ago when I was filling my great white it was 35 to 45 dollars from 3000 to 4500 fill , The cheapest was in Midland 38 miles away and the highest was in Odessa 20 miles away, Both took about 3 to four hours to fill bottle had to work me in just to fill bottle, Or you could rent one of those big 6000 psi nitrogen bottles for 300 a month with free refills.
Just FYI here in the middle of West Texas, And if you look at the big picture , I am getting off pretty cheap with the Alkin.

Tuxting double piston models ??

I'm almost at 2 years on my 032, still sounds good, , only had one issue from the getgo with the electronics, they sent a new one and after that it's been perfect.

Are the two gold tube filters on this model adequate by themselves or do you run additional filtration?

Air Arms  Might get a tx200hc .22 in walnut

Although I have a Vortek SHO kit in my TX200, I waited 3 years before putting a kit in my rifle. Weirauch makes a fine rifle (I too have a HW97K walnut in 22 cal on order from AoA). Why not shoot the new rifle until you understand it's character. Enjoy it . . . then perhaps put a kit in it. Orv.

GX CS2 good for beginners?

Finally got the CS2. UPS lost the fiat one and GX made right by sending me another one. Just filled my Evol Mini with it and didn't take too long. I have a large filter that I put on it and took maybe 4-5 min to fill to 4000psi. Funny thing I have an older Omega Air Charger and guess what has the same GX inspection tag as these compressors lol. Guess I've been running a GX for years. I'll probably keep this one packed away for now until my Omega craps out but will always have this as a backup or can take it to fill on the go from my truck if need be. I think I should have just sprang for the CS3 like the one I got my dad but the CS2 will work.

Low End Vs High End Bipods

I had several Harris bipods on my PB’s and was happy with them. When I was working a ton of overtime I bought an Atlas and an Accutac. If I’m shooting from a bench I prefer the Accutac as it can really vary the height from pretty low when legs are angled forward to high position when at 90° and the legs are extended. I don’t worry about weight as I’m parked right at the bench.
Harris doesn’t have a pic attachment and my airguns are all pic so the Atlas and Accutac are preferred. To use a Harris I would have to use a sling swivel adapter and it’s shaky compared to pic rail because it doesn’t seat against stock like a gun with a typical sling swivel. Harris has been ised by armed forces wuite a bit though. I never cared for any of the knock offs of the three brands I went with buy once cry once. I don’t abuse my shooting gear so the knock offs probably would hold up fine though.

The hunt for a stable slug continues xD

HN is ok, but expensive
Here in the US H&N are some of the cheaper slugs. For me I dont care what the price is. I only care about group sizes and consistency of groups. I also dont target shoot with my airguns I only pest and hunt so I dont go thru a bunch of slugs. If I shot 500 slugs a month I would probably buy a corbin so I could make my own slugs plus I shoot firearms allot so the corbin would be used for rifle bullets too.
