Athlon Talos 10x42

Anyone have one of these? Doing some research into scopes I came back to one of these. Used to use SWFA 10x42s for quite a few years. Enjoyed them but moved on as had things i wasnt a fan of like rear focus and no zero stop. Had a gift card for Cabelas and found I could get one for $191 delivered with my gift card. So I ordered one. I have scope rings and a bubble level already that should fit it. Not sure if it'll go on my Tikka and swap the Arken LH 4-16 to my new gun or go on the new gun.

I like mine a lot. It’s not a compact scope, but since it isn’t it doesn’t suffer from compact scope issues. I like the low light capability it provides, I can get a little more shooting in. It makes adjustments well.

Looks great! Yeah not looking for a compact scope, for that I really enjoy the 2-12x24 Discovery. Looks good on that BRK. Mine will be more of a porker lol

Back at preproduction phase I had that Talos and some of the Heras scopes to critique for possible improvements. Even though it's a Talos grade scope I found the IQ in it as nice as the Heras scopes. Probably by virtue of being a fixed power. Fixed power isn't my thing but otherwise I'da bought one.

I've read really good things about that scope. I'm a fixed scope fan, and have 5 or 6. SWFA 10x and 12x, Airmax 10x, Veyron 10x, Optisan 10x, but I've never had a Talos. If I found a deal on one, I'd jump on it. I mostly shoot short range to 125 yards, so 10x or 12x works perfect. I think you'll love the Talos. Be sure to let us know how it works out.

I'm going to assume I will like it. I'm a big Athlon fan and enjoy the scopes I've had from them. Feature wise it's got what I like compared to the SWFA so should be good as long as the glass is good. I like the reticle better with the floating dot compared to the Milquad.

I love fixed power scopes. I have only heard good things about that one. If you don't like it, I will swap you my 2-12x 24 Discovery scope for it.
Lol I was just shooting my Vixen today when it was snowing and has that 2-12 Discovery on it and was very impressed with it.

Can you share your impressions or comparison of those two scopes?

Got the scope last night. I really like it. I'm thinking it will be a perfect pair with my Tikka T1X. Turrets are awesome for a Talos line scope. Glass seems good especially for the price. I like the reticle, would like a Christmas tree but think it's alot better than the Milquad. Also my scope seems to focus under 10yds which is nice.

I bought one of these about 5 months ago for a 10-22 to shoot NRL22. One of the benefits of a fixed 10x scope is the depth of focus. I set mine for 70 yards and it's good from 40 yards to 200 yards. The only minor drawback is the reticle is a bit hard to see under low light conditions.

Focus may be good from 70 to 200 yards…. but I guarantee that your parallax is not!

Perhaps you could explain to me how that works.

JackHughs
Focus and parallax are not the same thing.

The reticle and image can both be in focus, and you can still experience several MOA worth of parallax. This applies to both fixed power and variable power optics, and the higher the magnification the greater the effects of parallax can be.

There are a million articles that explain what parallax is, and how it affects POA/POI intersection.

I’m sure that if you were to leave your scope “focused so that everything is good between 70 and 200 yards”… that you will be experiencing some parallax issues at either 200 yards or 70 yards…. or to a lesser extent, both.
