CS4i issue

Need help here peeps. I followed all the instructions. Used distilled water for the coolant. The unit is running off AC 110 which is set properly on the unit. I have the max pressure and requested pressure both set for 300 bar. It was working great for the first 4 hours but after it hit 2000psi it started randomly shutting off the pump. The unit would still have power and the fan would be running but the start button wouldn’t be illuminated green and the off button would be on. If I hit the start button it will start right back up but then it turns off again within 3-15 minutes. It’s not from overheating either because I babysat it today after leaving it shut off for 24 hours and it turned itself off within 5 minutes.

I sent a message to the manufacturer because I bought it direct but I am hoping that I am just doing something wrong. I read all the directions though and I can’t find anything else to do. Also to note. After a couple shutoffs last night I tried giving the grease thing a half turn but that didn’t help either. As always, help is greatly appreciated!

is there not a board controlling duty cycle? I don't know, just asking

Pretty sure this one has to have a board because it uses a inverter to titrate the power based on what’s needed.

On a plus note I turned the grease thing again and it hasn’t turned off in 30 min which is the longest it’s gone in a while….so far so good?! Maybe the first half turn didn’t push enough grease in? Air pocket?!

I have. CS3. No idea brother. Just asking. Sounds like since you said 2 hours. It might've been starting to on/off on duty cycle. Have you checked moisture build up?

The inverter gets hot too

I think it just needed grease?!?! Seems to be working fine now…. But yeah I was releasing the bleeder valve every hour or so to let out the water

Your symptoms are the same that I experienced. I was trying to top off my tank from 250BAR to 300BAR when random pump shut-offs occurred, sometimes after a few minutes and sometimes after 30-35 minutes. I tried shaking any air bubbles out following the procedures outlined in this forum with no joy. I queried [email protected] and received the following reply:

The product description at Amazon said "5 Hours Continous Work". There were times when I couldn't get 5 minutes of continuous work. So I returned the compressor to Amazon and just received a new one yesterday. Started it up following the directions and began topping my tank off from 269BAR to 300BAR. The pump shut off after 2 minutes. Turned it back on and it ran for 7-8 minutes before shutting off again. Happened repeatedly all the way to 300BAR. I'm beginning to think this is the nature of the beast and as much as I want to like it, I just don't know if I want to babysit it every time.

I hear this suggestion often and I think it can be helpful to troubleshoot for really bad power supply. But I don't think it's a good test to replicate longer run times like for filling cylinders, because I don't ever plan on idling my vehicle for 45 minutes to several hours to run the compressor. For direct gun fills at a 10 or 15 minute run, sure!

I have experienced the same intermittent shut off issues with mine. There are so many contributing factors it's hard to pinpoint a direct cause.

Chris... I wasn't suggesting running it on the vehicle to compare tank fill times. I was suggesting running it the time it would take to eliminate the power supply being the cause of these early shut downs... I think folks are saying it happens within 10 minutes.

I had read where some guys would fill their larger tanks at 20 minute intervals, rest the compressor for a time period in between.
That's a lot of work and time consuming. Sounds to me like the CS4 and 4I should really just be used for filling guns. Saw the write up by GX that they backed off suggesting the filling of larger bottles. I am on the verge of buying one of these and now I have some serious doubts. Shutting down after a few minutes is unacceptable whether it's a tank or a gun. I would want to fill my Crown (480cc) and occasionally top up my 6.8 liter bottle from say 3500 to 4500. This would be a great time for all CS4 owners to chime in about their overall experiences. It would also be nice to get to the bottom of this problem. I know what Humdinger would say and I trust his judgement , yet it is still nice to have a small easily portable compressor for field use.

These portable compressors have all but eliminated the need for tanks for me. The only time I use a tank now is for tethering. But then again, I do all my shooting at home and I can set my CS3 up right on my shooting bench. I can fill mags while the gun is recharging.

Has that CS3 been pretty reliable for you? Over time?

After reading Gx4 could be ran for 5 hours I bought. Had a 3 liter and filled. Slow but cool. Got a 9 liter and let it run,
total was 5 hours 10 minutes. The grease and water fills were lukewarm warm to the touch. Since have topped off tanks.Then got a 6.8 liter and filled that from empty. I had a leak in my hoses and gauges and it took as long as the 9.
I had added a timer after 3 hours and it now has 24 hours. For the hell of it I added an external additional cooling system.
never believed it was needed to run. I’m retired and it was something to do. Have again filled the 9 liter from empty.
Gx sold it as able to run 5 hours and I’m gonna use as such. It’s a simple machine and parts are easily available.
I Have bought a Tuxing tx ed042 since for a little more than 1/2 the cost of the Gx. If I could do it over I would have saved some money and just had the faster , hotter Tuxing

Have you put much time on the Tuxing ? How is the reliability ? Obviously not going to be moving that one around very much?

I understand, and didn't think you meant to convey long runs on vehicle power. I just wanted to convey to other readers that they should not feel that way they need to run a complete duty cycle on vehicle power to test their units.
