Results Southwest Airgunners Silhouette and Field Target Match Reports, Duncan AZ April 2025

Tom again opened his property up to allow a bunch of airgun nuts to have a heck of a weekend full of airguns. He is greatly appreciated for doing so and I think I'll start there with this match report. Tom was presented with a token of our appreciation for his generosity and hospitality. Here he...

Field Target is an arms race.

Yes siree. The arms race can be won a little bit by seeking out high BC pellets. And further equipment advantages can be gained by learning which rifling profiles produce slightly higher BCs. And even individual barrels will sometimes produce a higher BC. "Aggregation of marginal gains"...

    What’s with JSB these days

I made the comment on here a couple years ago that good batches of quality pellets will never be cheaper in the future than they are now. I've yet to regret stocking up, as much as I dared, on quality pellets.

Field Target is an arms race.

Figuring out the wind is just part of the recipe for ft success. If it was chance, we wouldn't see the same couple people at the top at most of the matches they attend.

I have been officially shut down!

Sure sounded like you knew who reported you and that they they had some.....room for improvement. My idea of reminding them about pots calling kettles black was all I was suggesting. Being told what I can I and cannot do on my own property is a hot button for me. Especially when that...

Skout Skout EVO precision with slugs

I'm excited to see how it goes Steve. Prelim results are looking pretty dang good.

Field Target is an arms race.

And then what happens in a few years when the accuracy potential of this particular rig is no longer ahead of the shooters skill? 😉

I have been officially shut down!

I see this as a fight fire with fire situation. I have a contingency plan for if my current neighbor wants to make my shooting a problem, and I had one at my last house too. Your options are the city or the police department. A bunch of junked out old cars in the yard of the neighbor that...

Field Target is an arms race.

Please expound on your statement that "this is a rig that will outshoot him for a few years."

    Daystate Picture of Ghost barrel

From what I'm hearing the BlackWolf borrowed the dual transfer ports of the Veteran. And yes, FX was the first borrower of the dual ported Veteran. It will be nice if they borrowed the Veteran shot cycle for the BlackWolf, and/or carried forward some Red Wolf firing characteristics.

No ping with my Vets. But all three are first gens. 19fpe Vet versus 19fpe Ghost isn't even comparable, either in .20 or .177. Vet is short and crisp, Ghost is the opposite. Same goes for a .22/ 50fpe Vet versus a .22/50fpe Ghost. They're not even in the same class when it comes to...

Other Just how much must I pay for "Accuracy" in a PCP gun?

Personally, starting around $1200-1400 is my threshold for where the price/performance ratios really start to become evident. And I base that mainly off of a couple solid options in that price range....Taipan Veteran and Daystate Huntsman come to mind. If you don't mind single shot, and...

Other Just how much must I pay for "Accuracy" in a PCP gun?

I got a chuckle out of your title, and the comments so far. The answer to your question is generally, yes, as the price increases, the likelihood and level of precision/accuracy usually does too. Just don't remind a large contingent of field target competitors about it, cuz they get pretty...

    Daystate Picture of Ghost barrel

Here you go... That's a 23 inch Ghost barrel. The only difference between the 23" HP and the 17" of the Carbine/Plus is 6 inches (of barrel and carbon fiber shroud) If a quiet shot is high on the priority list, a Ghost is not the gun. Sure, the shroud is a good design and completetly...

    Taipan Taipan Mutant Short .22

I was told (by a Veteran guru) that it's the air the runs the anti-double-feed. He was of the opinion that there is a tiny little hole in the bottom of this (or both?) divot(s). And that a small amount of air is used to determine of the gun has been fired or not before a decock/recock...
