Adjustable Rings

I have adjustable rings on most of my pcp's and I like the fact that all my scopes are not far from the center of the scope's tube. I tell myself keeping the scope turrets center as possible helps the springs from being over stressed.

I've been watching a lot of 1,000 yard PB matches and noticed no one uses adjustable rings. Are the adjustable rings we use not rated for PB's? It would seem the adjustable rings for PB's would be very beneficial by not having to add 20 MOA rails or having a much larger adjustment if you need more then 20 MOA

I would be very careful using adj rings to achieve 20moa. unless the adj ring angles, as opposed to a vertical only adjustment, the scope will sit on the front of the rear ring and the back of the front ring. Tubes can be easily damaged since you are then tightening the top part of a ring unevenly because the scope is not sitting flat inside the ring. Unless the set is matched, the adjustment increments may not be consistent either. Depending on what you are doing that may not be an issue, but enough for me not to use them. Burris or Leupold (I think, cant remember) makes true moa adj rings that wont damage a tube using tapered inserts.Ive shimmed other rings for a couple of moa without issues but would not personally go to 20 with just a height only adj ring. Im sure others will chime in and say they never had a problem adjusting to 20. I’ll take a pass on it to not risk the scope damage.

Shimming will produce exactly the situation you note-"because the scope is not sitting flat inside the ring". Quality adjustable rings will eliminate this issue. Whether they would be "competition stable" for centerfire rifles is another question.

burris signature rings can get you up to 40 moa both wind and elv it's the best rings for your scope it's all i use on an expensive scope. always 100% contact. pb 1000 yd. comp. do use these

I've used Burris insert rings in the past on several guns. IIRC you can have both windage and elevation adjustment but that depends on rotating the insert in the ring and you lose elevation if you "rotate in" windage. But I do agree that they are very good rings functionally. I prefer Sportsmatch fully adjustable rings for my air guns because of the separate windage and elevation adjustment and the ease of adjusting.

🔹If you want to know what mounts the PRS pro's are using, check the link below.

No, the brands I use as an airgunner do not show up in the ranking. Some of their mounts cost as much as as some of my scopes.

And some of them come with built-in cant: 10moa, 20moa, 30, 40, 50, and 60(!), take your pick! 😄

🔹An excellent PRS shooter and researcher did a comprehensive scope test of 18 scopes costing each $1500 or well(!) above that.

Most of them have a lot of elevation adjustment available. Over 2/3 of them had more than 90moa (=26mil). A full 1/3 had 117moa (34mil) or more.

If you need a lot more than than, the Charlie TARAC system will fix that for you — you gain 1000moa (300mils) of elevation adjustment, at the modest price of a dollar fifty per moa.

Here's more to drool over (or shake your head at):

🔸And finally, here's a Scope Mounting Table with about 20 affordable but quality options for adding elevation (or windage) cant to your scope setup with adjustable mounts and/or rails.

Incl. prices | mounting heights | other relevant specs

While some adjustable mounts may not allow the individual rings to tilt as they incline. FX no limit do.
You tighten the scope into the rings first….then u losen both heigh adjustments and set height.
Holes are large enough to allow the ring go where they want.
pretty sure eagle vision does the same thing. However they look more robust

▪ FX No Limits do.

▪ Eagle Vision do.

▪ Sportsmatch do.

➔ So, SqrlHntr's concerns are thankfully not a problem with these. 👍🏼

Now, just recently some colorful "adjustable" rings have popped up on Amazon, sold for really cheap by WestHunter and other Chinese outfits. THOSE DO NOT TILT and threaten to bend the scope tube.

And inserts are used in the following:

▪ Burris

▪ Hawke

Yeah the fact is that PRS guys are insane and should have their heads examined. 2500 dollars is a budget scope for them and mounts cost well over 300 dollars. I can shoot 800 yards with my 308 and do ok hitting a man sized steel plate but those guys can hit 8in plates consistently at 1000 yards or even 5in plates. I guess you get to that level with an autistic level of attention to detail with training and gear. Alot of those guys have 25lb rifles chambered in mid caliber cartridges so they can actually see the vapor trail or shockwave trail of their bullets by minimizing recoil. It's just an insane level of preparations if you ask me. I'll stick to my airguns and shorter distance drops that are basically the same but don't require thousands of dollars. I mean the cost difference in ammo is just one cost savings. I thought getting into PCp shooting was expensive but when I started looking into long range competition I just gave up and decided I'd rather put my kid through college......and maybe all my grandkids too.🤠🤣

PRS guys should have their heads examined, you say?

Yes, they can get in line behind us airgunners.

Because the noggin of many airgunners is certainly in dire need of some medical attention.

🔸Take me for example:

• I just spent $350 for a used scope cam — so I can check my misses. My what?!

• My last PCP "needed" a scope which turned out to cost as much as the gun.

Then I purchased some small accesories (rail, varios adaptors, silencer, reg) and they cost more than the gun — just those small accessories.

• All in all the sticker price of the whole rig is located north of $1200. That's $1200 to remove pest animals.

Mind you, not on my own pests, on my own property. It's other people's pest animals. On other people's properties. Whom I had to beg to let onto their property.

Fortunately, these pest animals that other people have are only an hour's drive outside the city. And an hour back, if traffic is light. The gas is cheap in comparison to the $1200 for the gun.

• How about spending $700 on an NV scope to kill rats. — Really? Rats? What rat is worth $700?!

• Or how about buying 20 or 30 different pellets — for each caliber(!); and 40 slugs in different sizes and weights and colors and flavors — for each caliber(!). And we do that only to find that one pellet and that one slug that shots best in our gun.

🔸Do I need to go on?

My appointment for my bean exam is next Wednesday at 2 pm.

When is yours?

😉 Matthias
