What would be a heaviest .22 pellet that we can trust?

50-70 meters, shooting with Leshiy2 with 350 and 500mm poli barrel.

I tried the L2 with 350mm barrel - the AA FT 16 gr about 1K pellets in a ballpark of 910 fps +/-, and the JSB MRD 26gr about 6-800 pellets @ 950 fps +/-.

The AA's outperforms the JSB MRD's for an unthinkable margine.

Trying now the L2 with 500mm barrel, still the AA's are satisfactory about 910-920 fps. The MRD's are just garbage for a simple comparison (I have maybe ten tins of these but have no nerves to shoot them any longer)

I am running out with AA FT 16gr pellets and need to restock but need heavier pellets.

AA Field Heavy 18grs, or JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18grs ???


 
I'm looking forward to finding out. 

Weight isn't the only factor, though. Two pellets/slugs of the same weight can differ dramatically: their length and the overall balance and aerodynamics can affect the ballistics. 

I've got a few slugs for the Leshiy 2 that are 11mm in length on the nose. Looking forward to seeing what configurations work for them. But I still haven't moved on from the stock 350mm barrel.

I agree.

The AA FT 16 gr works well only when no wind (and that is about 10% at my place), this why I was hoping the MRD with 26gr can help me staying on POA.

I moved from 350mm barrel to 500mm barrel only for a reason I don't need to pump up the Reg to get a 960fps for the 26gr... it is not only a Reg but the configuration of jets also the valve timing pin... higher pressure more complicated to fine tune with L2.

I am shooting rings in the club, and I have time to following up with each shot, I can see what the pellets doing...this I am trying to control my way.

I personally only use the 16gr variants of JSBs. Either AA or FX. I've had issues with 18gr in the past and never went back. You can do 18gr but the difference in weight is too little to see any real gain in BC. I go to slugs instead if I need better wind bucking abilities. The NSA 20.2gr to be specific in my gun. MRDs can be good if yours shoot well but do have flyers here and there. I shoot out to 100yds very regularly with the 16gr.

Very cool table with lots of info. You wouldn't happen to have one for .25? As you might surmise that's my favorite caliber by far.

From your chart the JSB MRD's are really promising with 0.050 BC but unfortunately I cannot make them group well @ 50 (and btw I don't shoot anything closer than that). I can see the flyers tear the paper sideways. I was investigating any possible scenario - higher speed - lower speed - changed barrels - re-crowned the barrels - weight sorted - size sorted (I just did not roll them yet) ... and I got tired of these.
Still have some 3-4 more tins washed and lubed,
tomorrow I will go to the range and give them a very last chance to show of -
I want to try something new with a very unusual short dwell time to cut the airblast inside the barrel ...
but I got very emotional with these MRD's and ready to showel them in a garbage.

I couldn't get the Monsters (MKI and II) to group well either in the gun that I had for it.... — and that was before the quality of JSB pellets went the way of all things corona.... How frustrating!


So, yeah, we know it ("The barrel picks it's projectiles") — but we still want to have it our way.... I just ordered more slugs, new diameters, still hunting.... for the perfect hunting slug. 🤦🏻‍♂️



Well, maybe Mars, the god of war, supposedly one of the deities of Attila the Hun who gave him the "Sword of the Scythians" — maybe Mars will be with you at the range and guide the MRD's right into the bull's-eye, in a tight 10-shot group! 😄

Why shoot heavy pellets when there are slugs?
My Leshiy 350mm .22 LW shoots slugs better than most pellets. It likes all the NSA, JSB and H&N slugs, up to about 26 grains.
May I ask what setting you have to shoot JSB MRD 26gr @ 950 fps +/- ?
I shoot 25 grain slugs at that speed but have a .3 jet and +- 190 bar on the reg.... I think it's a bit overkill for .22.

First and the most important thing is - what is available to me at all time. First of all the L2 mag is a shoot through hole....with resizing the pellet in that step. The slugs lead body is solid, or more solid then a 25.4gr pellet and need more effort to resize the OD cylinder when exiting from the mag - enter the breach - resize from breach - enter into rifling.....I don`t think that is an issue with aligning centerline to centerline, but more to do with the TOTAL amount of friction=resistance.....along the multiple trips in re-sizing.
And you are right................."3 jet and +- 190 bar on the reg.... I think it's a bit overkill for .22"...............you don't think=we can agree that = too much airblast comming out of muzzle and the flyers tearing the paper sideways.
