FPS vs accurate distance

With the ballistic calculators it's like with a good weekend hunt:
It requieres quite a bit of preparation.
But if done well, it can be spectacular. See the one-shot one-kill sparrow at 87 yards.

Strelok Pro is a great app for calculating your shots in the field.
You can set up a file for each rifle and each power setting.
Hundreds of reticles, pretty sure you'll find yours.
The free version is a bit more limited. But hey, the price of a tin of pellets for lifelong use of a pro app is worth it.

Somewhat more user friendly might be
GPC Ballistics Applications. It's a full suite, for Windows, Android, iOS, Linux. Link:
It's free. Lots of functions, if you desire to use them, but not required.

Matthias 😊

Thanks guys. I shoot some precision rimfire and have taken a class in it. I use GeoBallistics for precision shooting.

The big question though is shooting CO2 at altitude with variable temperatures. It has been hard to even shoot this summer so far. I did go out today when it got warm and was able to shoot out to 50 yards plinking steel targets. The cool part is as the CO2 got lower I was able to actually see the bbs in fight.

Next time it is warm I will play some more shooting at different distances. I think a 60 feet with my pellet gun I was seeing some drop but the bb gun was pretty good out to 80 feet but was not so accurate at that distance or at least i was no longer accurate at that distance.

I'm wondering if this the Matthias I know from GTA. If it is, then "hello friend!" from a long ways away!

Last I recall was the Diana you were shooting. :)

Paul/ VaporTrailGTA,

yupp, it's the same Matthias....! That Diana Skyhawk is still killing pigeons, but lately had a barn-door size leak that I haven't fixed yet....😩

Paul,
🔸 GTA is the perfect place for springers and mid/low range PCP's, and for machining, tuning, DIY, and just plain engineering. GTA has two ballisticians, one is actually a retired pro and has designed an improved drag profile for pellets and one for airgun slugs. And GTA has a writer of technical airgun articles (tuning, external and terminal ballistics, basic airgun functions, etc.). An incredible resource. Among many others.

🔸 AGN addresses the PCP crowd especially, in particular of the higher end (with a special favor for FX, as you'll notice). Scopes are frequently discussed. The classifieds are legion. And AGN has an air pistol book writer. And many other talented and helpful people.

⭐ Both forums are great, wonderful people (with the always present bad apple mixed in).

Glad to meet you here again! :giggle:

Aaah, Matthias! Great to see you too! Glad to hear the Diana is treating you well, aside from adding some...breathing holes to your barn.

Last year I lost the Queen of my armory; my Win35. Shameless lousy thieves broke into my home and stole her and my new-to-me Sumatra Carbine that had just been tuned by Will. I didn't even have the Carbine for a month.

Now, I'm a man on a mission. I'm looking for a replacement for the Queen.
