The Most Off-Putting Ad in the Classifieds?

I'd like to conduct a poll. Please vote for your choice of the most offensive sales ad you've ever viewed in this forum's classified section.
I have a candidate in mind -- I just read it this morning. The ad comes with a disclaimer of: "Please Read Carefully".
I would never, ever consider
contacting any person who wrote that in an ad.
Maybe the member will read this and edit the listing. Thus, increasing the
likelihood of making a sale.

I know the one youre talking about, the comments arent necessary at the end, however I run a side gig on FB Marketplace and no matter what I put in the ad whether it be "Firm" or "Detailed description of said item" the annoying questions I get are frustrating or people making an offer when I put FIRM multiple places within the ad, as people just refuse to acknowledge the time put into writing up an ad and taking detailed photographs.

LOL. Need more context than “please read carefully”. I hope there is much more than that to it. I cant think of a classifieds but i can think of a company and i will jus post it. Airgun pro shop. All you have to do is go to the about us (or similarly named section) on their website and see what they write about “customers” and you may not want to do business with them. I know i won’t.

He is being honest and letting people know he won't accept anything lower. Don't like it then move on instead of making a thread about "what you don't like" and hoping people pile on.

He may sell it, or he may sit on it. Time will tell soon enough. Let's be honest we have all gotten the messages with sob stories in them when we are selling something. So let's not pretend that it doesn't happen. Is the Op a little brash...sure...but he gets his point across.

Guys, let's get real. Not all members of this forum are stright shooters. Along with a bunch of solid citizens and good airgunners we have some really scumballs here to. One get sick and tired of being sick and tired of the bs. If the ad says no trades and pay by pay pal that's what the seller want. Let's not even mention the lowball artist. Simple solution. If you don't like ad or deal just move on.

Well, I read the ad and thought to myself a couple of different things. One was “boy, he’s gonna have a hard time selling this thing”. Second was “he must have really had some bad experiences in the past”. Third was “why don’t people ever understand that its never a good idea to belittle or piss off your customers?”.

So, now he’s (1) renewed the ad multiple times, since no one is buying it, (2) He’s getting an award for “Most Off-Putting Ad in the Classifieds” and (3) see points 1 & 2.

I’ve sold a bunch of things in the Classifieds over the years. There’s no need to belittle or annoy potential customers. If people make lowball offers that you don’t like, pull a Nancy Reagan and “Just Say NO”. That’s all. It’s no sweat. And in fact, sometimes those guys come up with interesting alternatives. The only trade I’ve ever done came from an ad I posted that didn’t include trades as an option! But the guy made me a proposal, I listened, and it made sense so I did it.

Well, I’ll keep watching this one. Maybe someone will finally succumb and buy it. I’m not holding my breath.

I guess what is the intention of his ad? It seems he wants someone to pay exactly the price he determined for the exact configuration he is putting out there. Basically an unmotivated seller who is willing to sit and wait until that one person to come along that would buy his configured PCP at the price he determined it was worth.

The language he uses is funny, but a simple. "No other offers will be entertained" says the exact same thing and without the hubris involved.

+1 on everything you said. Keep in mine this is a numbers game. He only need 1 hit. How many viewers do you think watch this site. He is aware of that.

I understand what you are saying but, he does not want lowball offers. He wants what he wants and makes that clear, its actually insulting to get lowball offers when it clearly state you won't even entertain them, an ad is written in order (most of the time) to dwindle down significantly the amount of questions needing to be answered . With my marketplace side gig, I have dealt with THOUSANDS of people in person, that means Ive dealt with probably at least 10,000 just wasting my time, I get it. People can't simply just be ok with moving on.

"FIRM 2800.00

Not 2500.00, Not 2550.00, 2800.00…

I will sell for 2500.00 without the scope.
………………….“NO TRADES”…………………….."

I can understand that if you are running a business. He’s trying to sell a rather pricey air rifle on a discussion forum Classified section. Not the same thing.

Anyway, he is free to do what he wants, but my view is “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”. He’s pissing off a component of his potential customers for what? So he can get exactly what he wants? How’s that seem to be working out so far? He MAY eventually sell it, but he’s been waiting an awfully long time…

When I place a WTS ad, I want it to sell. I price it to sell and I don’t write demeaning copy in the ad. If I get a PM with a lowball offer I can simply ignore it or, most likely, I simply say no.
