PCP for the Wife

I finally got the wife to shoot my PCP. I have a Uragan .25 with ws, Helix 6x24x50 scope and bipod. She loved shooting it and is now wanting to shoot more. So I have been thinking about getting her a gun (really my 2nd but sshhhhh!) that would be a bit lighter than the AGT. Here are some of the guns I have been considering:

* AGT Vixen in .22 - long barrel
* Brocock Atomix XR
* AirMaks Krait (as soon as it's available)
* RTI Prophet II
I would get the 2nd gun in .25 to keep the pellets the same although I don't have a problem with .22 - especially for small varmints. She will not shoot ant anything "alive" so it will be plinking and targets for her. On the other hand, I would like to use the gun for ratting and other varmints at closer range. I have the Uragan sighted in at 30 yards and can easily go out to 100 and hit what I'm aiming at, but close range stuff is a bit harder, so this 2nd gun will be more for that type action. I think all of the guns listed will be accurate, which is a quality that goes without saying. I'll be fooling with the configuration and adjustments, so that's important to me. She just wants to shoot! So the idea is light weight and quiet. Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks,
Paul

Of the four I own an .22 Atomic XR, which has become my preferred sub 50 yard plinker/pester. I would not buy it in .25 though. It's best suited to the .177 or .22. Also, if your wife is mainly plinking with it and it's for close range ratting for you? A .22 will get it done and pellets can be purchased at Walmart or other sporting goods stores. I've posted extensively about my Atomic XR. Will not bore you with details here. Good luck.

I have a vixen 22 long for “low” power 22 and it plants ground squirrels out to about 80 yards no problem….I will tell you this when my wife got into shooting she started with a streamline in 22, then a crown in 177 for FT and her favorite is her 25 crown she shoots at XFT and off the bench. I liked her crown so much I have 1 in 25 for XFT and bench work and a 380mm 22 cal set for slugs I use hunting….My hunting crown is super light and probaly my favorite rifle I own….

Not on your list but you might want to look at the SnowPeak P15/P35. P15 is 4.7 lbs, P35 is 5.2. P15 is rear cocking, P35 is above the trigger. I have one in each caliber and the 22 is a real tack driver. Others are still nicely accurate. The P15 would put the scope lower although still higher than a conventional rifle. When I said tack driver, I mean 3 pellets in the same hole at 25 yards.

I'll have to vote for the Vixen. The gun is so light and not being 'high power' it has such a smooth and pleasant shot cycle, and it is a treat to shoot it. Yet it still has enough power that mine (as received new from AoA) is slinging 15.89's at almost 900 fps, and is very accurate.

Only downside to this gun would be if your wife shoots mostly off the bench. When shooting off a front bipod, the Vixen's 'stock' is not the easiest thing to get stable on a rear bag. But get the right size bag and one can stabilize the rear end of the gun off the bottle.

I too am very fortunate to have a wife who allows my airgun excesses, and likes to shoot as well. 'Her' guns currently include a black pepper Dreamline Classic in .22, and she just got the following .25 in May for her birthday:

TMH - very nice! My wife did like the bipod on my Uragan and that is a good thought. She'd love those colors! The Brococks seem like they are very well made and shoot well. The Sniper XR would be better if she is going to bench shoot then the Atomic XR.

Booder98 - I agree 100%, but I have no where to go where I live to let her "handle" a bunch - especially at this level. And I normally let her select her birthday and Xmas presents as I normally "get it wrong" - which I have done now for going on 40 years!

Hello although you did not list it, you may want to look at the Edgun L2 compact. Lite, accurate, easy to change calibers(if you choose) and fun to shoot. When I go shooting with my younger daughter and give her the choice of what she wants to shoot she always picks that one. Well good luck in your choice and enjoy the time spent with your wife shooting, a lot of people are not that lucky Eric.

My wife has been shoot air rifles with me alot this year.. she started shooting my FX dreamlite compact that is set up in 22 that I added a 220cc bottle. She soon wanted her own. I love the RTI Prophet rifles. I have the full size that I thought would be heavy for her and recomend the RTI Prophet compact in 22 for her. We ordered a pair.. hers is 22 mine is 25.. she loves her compact... it's small, light and she shoots it very well... but a word to the wise my friend... having 2 airgun addicts in the house may get expensive... for example... I took her to Baker Airguns earlier this year (I was picking up a new compressor) meanwhile she was browsing around the shop looking at the rifles. Next thing you know she has a impact compact in her hands...then she's holding a edgun... when I look up again shes holding the impact compact again... saying she really likes it... then shes holding a evol mini... gotta love her taste though
(we left without buying a rifle) you have been warned... its gonna be great. Nothing like your spouse sharing your hobby..
I might add... I wanted her to have a compact rifle with a bottle for shot count. she doesn't like filling her rifle on her own so i fill it for her.. so rather than a rifle that only got 20-30 shots a fill. 60-80 works out better for the both of us.. we spend more time shooting

Yeeesh!! Brave man picking out the wife’s gun. Like a previous poster I would suggest letting her pick it out.
My wife’s first was a Cricket II Carbine. I did not like it but kept my mouth shut. Forty years of marriage will teach you when not to speak.
She shot my Maverick and said I want one of these with a shorter barrel, so we got one for her and she loves it.
One of these days I need to figure out what to do with the Cricket.

I would definitely let her at least decide the form factor. My wife and I have been shooting together since the late 80s and she is very specific when it comes to the form. Does NOT like the black rifle form at all and prefers things that actually look nice. Her stable consists of a Red Wolf in red lam, a metallic blue ProTarget , a walnut Wolverine , and a Falcon FN12 Hawk. All are lookers and beautiful to shoot as well. I think the Wolverine is her current favorite but the Red Wolf probably gets shot the most.
The above Brocock looks cool and they're nice to shoot. LLeon's Atomic seems like a good choice, too. Weight WILL be a factor.

She liked the Uragan bullpup and it was benched so she really didn't say anything about weight... that's why I was leaning towards that form factor. I would love to take her to a shop so she could handle the guns, but that is a plane flight to somewhere from where I live! Remember that if she doesn't like what I selected, it will still go into the "PCP stable"! LOL. There is no question the wood/laminate stocks will be on her radar. And all the guns mentioned I would love to have. The nice thing as that they all get to be "shared," but as I found out, the eye relief was a bit difficult for her to find the first time - which would be the case with a gun setup primarily for her.
