HW35 or HW50

I have a older 35 locking lever but paint pitted and bruised stock I think it laid in the back of a pickup truck , stuff piled on top of it . bought for a song as the saying go's . simply a wonderful gun in .177

I agree. Looks aside, I prefer my 35E a hair over my 50. Both are fantastic guns but the cocking action on the 35 is soooo much more enjoyable. I also prefer the shot cycle on the 35. Now factoring in aesthetics, the 35E is a clear winner in my opinion. Both are fantastic though and you really can't go wrong either way.

The 50S I feel makes for a better woods gun though. The size, weight, and balance is second to none in tgat aspect.

The HW35 is a great rifle for right handed shooters. Big and heavy. The HW50 is lighter and smaller. Much better rifle.

What about the Weihrauch HW35K? Anybody know about the barrel length witht the moderator on the end. Is it 410mm all together? If so what is the length of the rifled portion of the barrel? They are out of stock at Krale right now but this one interests me.

For me, HW35 all the way, but thats as a hunting rifle. No great argument if you wanted the 50 for anything else.
Its the lock up for me….Not the locking per say, as the quality of the lock up of the 50 is excellent, but the ability to hold the lock up lever and cock the gun in complete silence. You can clear a wood shutting a 50, 95 or 98 barrel…
The new stocks on the 50 are the worst contraptions ive seen….what the hell is going on with that scollop out of the heel?

I do not like the forend chequering on the new 35 stocks however, i preferred the excellent slot of the former version, which was great for the purpose of repeatable hold, metering exactly where your fingers went every time…
This new grip looks bad. If buying the new version id be tempted to sand it off and go with a more traditional look…
I so not like where stock design is going in general….cheap laser cutting the makers name into woodwork, what the hell is that about…not for me…
Can still pick up an older stock design HW35 as a brand new item. I saw 2 in the rack of shop i went to last weekend.

I much prefer the HW spring guns with a 25mm or 26mm compression tube. That would include various iterations of the hw50s, hw95 and hw97k among others. The 35 and 80/R1 have a 30mm compression tube. IMHO, the bigger 30mm tube makes for a harsher shot cycle at any power level. There is just more mass in motion. Having tried most every Weihrauch, I prefer the hw50s over the others by a wide margin.

The fatter cylinder of the 35 can be tamed to 50 like cycles with slower start pellets and a TP reduction, but i prefer the extra weight and the nicer action of the lock up. It really is next level from that point of view.
The 50 is a good gun though, make no mistake, as is the 95….98 too much gun IMO

The HW 50 looks the most like a "real" rifle, except for that ugly stock. But the HW 35 can be opened without having to slap the barrel, which is a big deal to me. I dislike it so much that the break barrels I do have I open by breaking them over my knee. I guess that means the nod goes to the 35.

1) HW55 - Walnut is my Dream Gun - Springer.
2) HW35E - is the best made, bang for your buck .177 caliber gun in the Weihrauch lineup. Pride of ownership is high.
3) HW50S - is likely my most shot springer, has enough power and is plain fun to shoot aka HW30S, but a more versatile gun.

My favorite > HW35E - that's why I have three of them.

Get the 35 walnut from KRALE awesome gun. Mine is a beautiful one, glad I bought it

The HW50 is the easiest one to handle

So many guns and so little time, I'm sticking with my tried-and-true HW30s Deluxe in 177 and my HW50s in 20 caliber.

My suggestion is to get one of the very best, HW95L.



FWIW, Poster had some questions on Weihrauch rifle specs and these are for my HW95L.

Rifle/scope weigh:

7.5 lbs = 120 oz Weihrauch HW95L .22 rifle

4.4 oz = Hawke Tactical 30 mm medium 2 piece rings

21.9 oz = Hawke 4-16 x 44 mm SF, IR, compact scope

Total = 146.3 oz which is 9 lbs 2.3 oz, 4.15 KG

LOP = 14.25” trigger to center butt. WIN M70 30-06 = 13.875", CVA Accura V2 50 BP = 14.5" Piston seal = 26 mm, 1.02”, stroke = 85 mm, 3.35”.

Moderator weighs 4.32 oz, 122.6 g, 1892 gr.

The Hawke tactical medium rings put the center line of the scope 1.5” above the .22 caliber bore.

Barrel length = 15.75” from end of moderator to end of breech block.

Rifle twist rate is 16:1.

I have a HW95 wearing a HW98 stock, a R9 and R10 .... hard to knock those babies.
Maxed out HW35E shoots .177 JSB 7.87's 840 fps, but the HW95 hybrid shoots CP 7.9 at 880/900 much easier.

An HW50 is pretty hard to beat. I had one in .22 and now have one in .20. The .20 is just a pleasure to shoot. I totally agree that the new stock design is unfortunate. I recently got an HW35K, one without the moderator. Unfortunately it does not have the walnut stock. Also agree with those who prefer the cocking action of the 35, it’s quite slick. It does seem to generate a bit more power than the 50. If I had to choose it would probably be the 50 because it’s so light and handy also available in .20. Fortunately I don’t have to choose . Jay

I was really disappointed in the HW50 I shot and tuned. The cocking stroke is way too hard for the amount of power it puts out.

I think the 35 gets a bit of a bad rap due to it often being viewed as an old timers gun….
Thinking about it, if a modern sporter was to come out with a barrel locking mechanism, everyone would be clamouring to buy it….
It makes cocking it a pleasure, does not ruin stalks and if adding a sling to the gun, it prevents accidental break open…
Shame about the forend chequering on the new ones …whats that about lol..but the 50 does not convince me enough its better….

I agree with everything you just said... aside from the checkering. You really don't like that? I think it looks much nicer than the old style finger grooves. It makes the lines look so much cleaner.

I have no great argument with that, other than the old groove provided the best forend grip ever fitted to an airgun.
At one time the prime reason why professional pest controllers chose it, in our inclement climate…100 percent assured grip in any conditions and perfect re-locator for your hand position …was there a real need to change it given it stood the test of time for 50 years..
