old tins ?

With all the tools available now for measurement of pellets, i wonder IF old pellets ? pellets that were produced lets say the 5th year in the pellet manufacturing time line of a company (JSB as example ) IF the pellets were of a more constant measurement ? Seems to me everybody is complaining now of size and weight of pellets in the same tin . Anyone have old unopened tins of Quality pellets ? Maybe 1990 ? 2001 ? is that old enough to qualify for what was a high Quality pellet ? or maybe too old in the industry where a pellet was a pellet . When in fact the pellets are the same ,but now we have access to measurement equipment ? or maybe i just drank too much coffee this morning ?

I have several tins of the JSB gray label pellets. These are very consistent in size and accuracy. Accuracy changed slightly when the new (current) red/black tins came out. My theory is back in the day, pellet demand wasn't very high, so all pellets were coming out of the same die/dies. As demand for pellets rose, manufacturers had to ramp up production. The easiest way was to make more dies. No two dies are identical, thus resulting in the variances in the same pellet. The pellets from several dies are probable mixed together in one tin. Again, this is just a theory, no facts to back it up

i dunno, doubt it ... id say guns 'back then' just didnt need better pellets, todays guns are lightyears more refined ..and also id say if a particular gun chokes pellets its likely more the gun that needs work than variations in pellets .. yeah it may like some more than others. but because the gun needs work, not a perfect pellet ..

They gray labels go back at least 5 years, probably closer to 10 than 5. I’m guessing most of the members haven’t been shooting long enough to remember them. The new pellets have come
close to accuracy but I still see a difference. I have one tin that’s open and the pellets have no visual damage or deterioration over the years. I’m not sure what I’m saving them for, might start using them
