How I Hunt Deer While Blind.

Poaching is poaching. Reported.

Unethical and unbelievable fantasy scenario. Not welcome on AGN for violation of Rules.
evening, no poaching here, only a hunt or two a year on my property and during season, which is comming up. . if i had not been dealing with being blind these last 11 years how i hunt would be different but being blind i have to get the game to come to me, ive never heard of there being anything wrong with what ive described. so it feels to me you have some issue with me as you are basically saying im full of pew pew. pun intended.
i wont argue with ya about it, if you tell me how i did anything wrong i will not only stop doing it but ill appologize so be specific. what do you think i did wrong? if you dont believe i am blind aned able to do what i said thats easy you take me on a hunt and ill do exactly as i described here at your hunting local (during season)
and you hunt how you do and either way ill skin the deer.

@Aetheral-Sniper Your process is interesting to read and unique. I am curious, are you legally blind retaining some vision of shapes, light, and/or colors? Or are you completely blind with no vision whatsoever? Forgive me if the question is too personal or intrusive.
well depending on the light if there is something metallic or shiney i can see a difference in the grey it is lighter and i know thats something metallic ,, i can strategically place shiny objects or metallic ones around and as other people move around me i see the metallic or shiny stuff stop being there ,, cause it is being blocked with a object in front of it, so in that way i can track movement and while using sound its what i have to do these days. it is not normal nor is it exacctly fun much of the time, but say, i really like deer meat when i can get it.

Creepiest thing I ever read.
i ts been one heck of a decade learning how to live and function without sight. ya kinda do what ya have to do and it aint neccesarily nice or fun. and the worst part is havving to ask for and accept help from others ,when one is used to getting er done by ones self.

Granted Texas has different Game laws than the rest of the country and bait is widely used there. However, a 3/5 success ratio is completely random and unethical. Shooting to wound is barbaric. I doubt your gun meets the game law minimum to harvest deer. Just because the deer are on your land does not permit you to torture them with an unethical death or wounding.

if anyone comes into the dallas ft worth area and also has hunting land and would not mind taking me with during this next season , or any years deer season, id love to come and do my thing if i get one great. oh i always pay my own way .

oh concerning ethical hunting:: i only pull the trigger if i have a reasonable certanty that i will hit the deer in the head, most times it only takes one shot. this one time the deer suffered for maybe 20 seconds while i located it. so when you shoot and wait 30 minutes before going to make sure of that kill, how long do you thinthat animal suffered?
i wont ever let an animal suffer longer than need be, and if i cannot make a head shot i wont take a shot, hheck letting them go makes them come back easier. i get my hunting license every year ,have to get a new one end of the month. and i know how to skin a doe without hitting the scent sacs, i dont waste anything, usually while i am skinning a deer there are predators close by sniffing the blood in the air and i litterally cant get away from what is not usable meat fast enough before those predators are getting too close for my comfortheavily scented face wipes seem to deter almost all wildlife predator and not so using those wipes on myself removing any bloody clothing and bagging it and putting on a replacement. and as i leave the bloody area the predators are already moving in and the only reason they dont just attack me is cause i am usually heavilly armed against predators in the woods, (japanese nodachi 60inches long overal 3ft blade 2ft handle ).
so between packing up ,skinning my kill and avoiding becomming dinner, who in their right mind would or could have handled it any differently . oh they wouldnt be in the woods blind, yeah gotcha, but say i gots ta eat right? dont matter that i cannot see like you, well ive got a bit to do so will check this when i get a email, ill get pics of my gun up and take ones of my sword so no dofus's go saying i dont have one, gosh i can use one ,bbeen doing that for over 3 decades. laterz

@Aetheral-Sniper So you can see some light? What sort of hunting laws or regulations does your state have in place for someone in your situation who wishes to hunt? Is there a law on the books to accommodate your style of hunting? Are you a licensed hunter?
i am a licensed hunter and trapper sir.
texas only requires me to use at least a .30cal projectile at 800fps for animals like deer ,hog,or allegator. i use a .357 and it shoots mostly .357at between 1100 fps for the 125gr slugs to around 850fps for the 200gr slugs i use , all being shots at over 300foot pounds so there really isnt any question of if my shots didnt kill what was shot. it has been everything from a sure single headshot with me actually touching the deers head with my moderator before pulling the trigger,, to me thinking i have that shot and it being a bit high and taking out half the deers sjull and part of its spine but either way 95% of my kills have a dead deer immediatly or within seconds, no waiting like the hunting class tells you, ive had a deer run but id hear it fall and die and using my rope paths id find it and that is that.

i have never shot to wound, if i cannot be sure of a shot that will at least pass through the whole body at point blank ,my first 4 shots with this airgun are over 300fpe , so the deer is always dead,.
not 3 out of 5 success rate , it is 3out of 5 that i feel there is a certain shot and i only take certain shots , just like i get my license every year, and i have not shot a buck blind yet , my last buck was before i went blind. i am pretty sure the hunting laws here in texas are lighter than most states, but i use a .357cal very high powered platform. this one is new to me but the power level is not new to me. if the deer does not get into just the right spot i wont shoot, letting them go is like money in the bank they know they are safe with that enviroment and they will come back to it. it really is not easy to take a bunch of gear a thousand feet into any woods. talking like close to 50lbs of gear you know times are rough, i have not even been out to the property this year been too busy, i cant get my helper to help me sight in my rifle on this small range in the back yd. well the scope is not for me but once it is sighted in i can go to the table where my airgun was placed carefully in a place pointed exactly at th target box i have, so i can feel its placement hold it without moving it, feel the position make a group of shots at that target while holding my airgun but not allowing it to move.
from there i can xisualize more of my enviroment and move from side of the shooting table to the other making shots at my backstop and target area .

i use custom built box 12" x12" by 3ft long filled with rubber mulch and having a semi trailer mud flap screwed over the opening so shots go in and when they bounce they bounce into the mud flap and stay in the box. on each side of that box is a steel door that was cut in half and each half screwed into a 2 x4 on 3 sides and then filled with rubber mulch , so steel /rubber/steel and those are good to stop over 300lbs shots. and the box can take a slug from a 300 blackout and it wont go through all 3 ft of rubber.

i refuse to make a shot like you are talking about. period point blank.
i know my airgun and i know enough about any enviroment and how to use it that i do not need to even chance a shot that would allow suffering. and no in the case i wrote about it was less than 20 seconds for me to get up step out from between those rocks and take one step forward feel around with the rifle barrel slide it from front armpit to skull and finish a deer that would have died in a minute or tewo anyway, it was toast i just made it a bit faster. did you know they tell us in that hunting course to not go right after a animal. they say to wait 30 minutes and then track the animal. i cannot follow that advise from them. and hog , goodness have not actually gotten a hog yet, not since becomming blind anyway, but the same system i used before will work as i described.
oh texas would let me use a crossbow since i am blind, i did not think there was sense in that. but they wont let me harvest a deer with my sword. i can only use that for protection from predators, it happens to be the same length as my blind cane and i use it like one while in the woods. nope nothing else ,including my airrifle makes me feel safer in the woods.
thank you for becomming reasonable, yes i only hunt if i can take the game the way that both coincides with the rules they set for me to take game. dont think ive ever taken more than 1 a year and only in season. couple years the deer was smaller than i really wished but not able to complain here.
stuck with my situation.

although i am a licensed hunter, well lets say i have a hunting and fishing license that says i can hunt all small game and big game upto and including allegator(which id have to ask for a tag for that or a bigfoot(yeah its right there on the licenseeffin bigfoot )go figure. but i have no plans to harvest an allegator. and a squirrel chittered at me and my great dane this morning while i was out taking pics of my airrifle and it was making fun of my dog when i had to push duke behind meand set up my airgun, and ya know i let that squirrel live, i could hear it clearly, could locate its direction exactly. i took the opportunity this morning to listen to a squirrel chitter again ,i used to hunt them but its been decades. why even if i felt that i could do so ethically, would i shoot that squirrel with my big azzed air rifle. there would not be anything leftand even a grazing shot woulddestroy the squirrel and leave me no meat so i am just not into doing things like that. its easier to catch them in a live trap anyway. but my live traps are really for rats, i let the squirrels and mr opposum go. (possum cove is what we call him)
he jumped out th tree onto my brothers girlfriends hair, it was so funny she freaked , possum cove laughed and chittered and they both went two separate ways real fast.
so possum cove gets let out if he gets caught in the live trap. and the squirrel (been here 3 days) will get a pass too. but rats feed my catsand theres never an end to the rats.

beyond that i only know the airgun hunting laws and the city i am living in still has to get back to me on if i can take my airgun into the city park and let my sighted friend shoot snakes in the creek. they will either say yes, or they will say no if it is a non-venomous snake. i am just waiting for their word on it. nope ill have my snake boots on and ea stick cane or sword to fend em off with. nope, my friend already knows if a snake comes and i hear it , my friend will stay well back and i will have to put a new edge on my blade cause its gonna touch the ground and get drug all around me, bye bye snakes. well good talking with ya. the only way i will get to hunt this year is if i find a person to assist , cause my current helper does not know anything about hunting. he does not have proper anything so i wont hunt with him

it does seem though that when i start a thread there are people who wish to think i am doing wrong.

just because i did not fully explain a thing or a person did not believe a thing, or that person wants to jump the gun and think wrong has been done. well maybe just maybe a person should ask questions, and goodness ive only been blind a decade, so there is possibility i dont know new twists to a law so tell me please if i need to change something.

like we are not allowed to set up a feeder or salt lick but if sweet corn is spread randomly in the woods there is nothing saying that is wrong or id have been told so by a parks and wildlife official, ive showed them the can of sweet corn and can opener, and they said as ling as there is no permanent stationary feeder , i can drop corn from my can and let a deer come to me. but it wont work for you unless you get rid all the smells on you if youi take gear its gotta be set far enough away ,that it does not make the deer skittish. its a boring way to hunt.when the invention gets complete and i am told yup come get it, well hunting will be alot easier, especially if i am able to hear a heartbeat at 50yds, oh i will sight in the rifle then with a object that makes noise let my ears direct the aim and if a sighted person verifys the aim beforehand its a done deal. and hunting will be better, more like how everyone else does it.

@Aetheral-Sniper I’ll admit I was skeptical at first, but some of what you’re saying is consistent with the laws. I too hunt in Texas. However, I can’t speak to your ethics. I’m not a warden, but I also don’t know what it’s like to live with that sort of disability. The photo below was taken from page 56 of the 2021-2022 “Texas Parks & Wildlife: Outdoor Annual” for others to read. I’ve also read another one of your posts. Some of your claims are “out there” to me, but hey, who am I? I still find some things you posted in this thread hard to imagine. But I would like to apologize for prejudging you on your original post here.

i honestly never felt that your questions were harmful to me at all , questions are important, i mean when a person goes back to a place and time and tries to relive it in their mind so they can tell what happened to others it is not easy to explain everything and know ahead of time how other people are going to look at it.

oh texas airgun hunting requirements also wanted that .30 cal projectile to be like 160grain, at 800fps so it was rediqulous , only one .30cal airgun out there puts out 200fpe. only one. but a .357 at 147 grain and a thousand fps, yeah the math is right..
agreed yes i am not what you would consider normal. accepted, i refused to die after facing death and comming out of it blind half deaf and beef no longer tastes like beef,
regardless , we good in the next ten years technology will increase and they will be able to do something about my optic nerves , either transplant(which they are doing in germany these days) or maybe by then they will be able to regrow them or something and ill be able to return to a semi normal life. till then i am wierd, heck i was not even trying to buy this particular air gun, i was looking for that .30cal with a 32inch barrel, but somehow i got this rifle idk but its powerful today i put a 200gr slug through 3 2x4's stacked atop one another and hit my backstop . so its powerful.ive not listened to many videos about it on youtube, and its rare if you can get one do so, nothing like this air rifle except a bigger caliber of the same.
at least till my perfect ideal air rifle is created, good luck with that.

when in the desert never leave the first car hood you pass by behind, it can provide shade in the day, barrier to wind at night and making a dent in it will cause condensation to form in that dent filling with water each night, well one drink is better than none right. and in a sand storm you can get under the hood and unbury yourself afterwards. so yup i have wierd ideas, but think about some of it , and every bit of that is useful advice at some point of time.
like jelly packets , who knew that jellp packets would be useful in the desert, but say take a bread tie and a empty peanut butter jar and make a hole insert bread tie ,tie jelly packet , open it,tie other end of bread tie in knot suspending jelly packet. place rock at angle in front of jar and tthe device will attract scorpions, they love jelly it seems but wont be able to do more than smell it and get caught in the jar , and scorpions taste like shrimp with a bit of crunch. and in the desert knowing how to attract the food is important. like being able to distill fresh water out of salt water while near the ocean. but that is a true story for another time. night and shoot straight safe and true be blessed

so i did some research on the web and i dont remember being told differently in years past so the current method is after harvest you are to fill out the areas on the back of your license and cut the date ect out of the tag , and also you might need to have this form WRD(wildlife refrence document) andyou find that here https://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdforms/media/pwd_980_l2000_wildlife_resource_document.pdf so print one out and fold it up and zip loc it so when you need to field strip a deer you are to leave the WRD attached to the carcass when you separate the meat from the carcass, the tag goes with the meat(which i knew) but the WRD form needs be filled out and attached to the head of the carcass until its final destination(which in my case has usually been a coyote or cougar's stomach immediatly after i remove myself from the carcass with the usable meat.

so that form is a change to any and all future hunting for me now that i am aware of it.

oh i did not know they do didgital tags now so i am looking into that.

so any time of the year if a property owner is having trouble with deer eating or destroying stuff , that property owner can get a tag from one of the links on this page https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/permits/land/wildlife_management/mldp/ or you can get information about the mldp program , it is worth the read
this has been educating even to me,
whenever you are hunting clean up after yourself, the good rule to follow is do no harm , and leave no trace of your passing. in the woods that is. so for goodness sake bring trash bags zip[loc gallon bags and plenty of face wipes that youll need another bag to put those into cause its all got to come out of the woods with you. only natural biologicals that will wash away with the next rain can be left and that is only if they dont contain any epa regulated chemicals.
so if you wish to be specific retrieve your lead. use as little lead as you need to.

i have used glow in the dark airsoft ammo to find my way before i went blind. those things will stick between the bark of a tree without damaging the bark and at night just shine a light and all those glow in the dark bbs will shine telling you the path. i cannot use that info anymore so i pass it to you.
