A really nice difference!

I thought I'd take a minute to point something out I think is of interest to all. I just joined this forum and have asked a few questions over in a thread in Pistols. There have been conflicting opinions expressed about guns and cleaners/lubes. What I found extremely satisfying is that even though there are obvious differences in opinion, everybody has been civil throughout the discussion. That's in stark contrast to forums for Linux and computers in general. If you have ever had the misfortune to have had a need to visit one of those forums, you'll already know what I mean. The members of those forums are rude, crude, and vulgar. They are SUPPOSED to be there to help people, but when a real newbie asks a question, he is usually met with sarcasm, crude remarks about his knowledge, and quite often name calling and other ridiculing comments. I have always wondered why a forum exists for the general public if they really only want computer experts to post anything.

My point here is that so far I have been treated with respect, even with conflicting opinions about the guns I own and cleaners/lubes I should use. It's refreshing, to say the least. Thanks to everyone for that!

Yeah that's what's great about AGN. Don't get me wrong sometimes people get wound up but it usually gets self regulated or Michael takes care of it quickly. It's the best forum I've ever been in. Alot of others have elitist guys saying you have to use my gear and do my techniques or your wrongI don't even go to other forums anymore..... Too toxic. Welcome to AGN man. Let me know if you need anything. I've learned alot about modding and fixing airguns from here over the last 3 years. Even if I don't know the answer I could point you to who does. Or you can just post a question and odds are 3 or 4 legitimate experts will most likely help you out.

I have heard things can go toxic on forums, but fortunately i have never experienced that myself, and i have been in the game for a while.

For many years i was on a local computer site, which also had a forum, i ended up as a writer there in regard to tech / hardware news, and case modding.
Before i came here after reinvigorating my interest for shooting, and airguns is about all i can afford to shoot, well i have been on an other forum for about a decade, and it are also very wholesome.
There as a senior member i have taken it upon myself to welcome all that bother writing in the new member sub forum, or i just say welcome in their first post, before i try to help them with whatever question they have.
And in 10 years i have replied to the same question by different people many - many 100 times.

In here, well i am a newb and happy go lucky,,,, i just hope people can handle my long time problem of going off topic,,,,,, but trust me it is much - much better now than 10 - 20 years ago, where i would go off topic in one sentence.

As a Dane i do some times collide with the American way of what is acceptable on a forum, so i might need a slap on the wrist now and then, but i can handle that, and you dont even have to bring a admin in play, just give me a call and we make you happy again.

Thanks, guys. Yes, there are a lot of those forums out there that are so very toxic I no longer visit. It's sad.

Peashooter, I spent over 30 years in the computing industry. I sat down in front of my first computer in 1976. I saw unbelievable changes in the industry as time marched along. I haven't worked for about 12 years now so I'm no longer as well versed as I once was. As long as one of my laptops is still working and hitting the 'Net, I'm happy. LOL!

And a DANE? Oh no. WaaHaaaHaaaa!!! You'll love this. I did a boatload of genealogical research and DNA testing a few years back. I am absolutely English/Danish. I even tracked down a few long lost, "might be" relatives in England. There is a place named "Hardisty Hill" that I found. The name has been spelled with an I and with an E for a LOT of years, but both spellings are traced right back to the same area in England. My research has told me that Danish Vikings invaded that area in England quite a few times before the English decided it was best to offer land to the Danes and live in peace. So, yeah, I'm a good part Danish myself. I even went so far as to buy myself a couple of rings. One has the Valknut on it and one has the Helm of Awe on it. Both are Norse runes believed used by the Danes as well as other North Germanic people. So, go ahead. Feel free to hammer me. LOL!

Nice of you to say the kind words, glad you feel welcome. Average member here is 56, mostly men, I'd say mainly of a conservative mindset, some of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of spending time with. Celebrated a year membership in April, over a thousand posts with only one or two being responded to negatively. This hobby is multi-faceted, and you'll find members who specialize in areas of expertise that tend to offer the best answers to specific questions. We don't all agree on everything, however, as time goes on, you'll find those members you trust most for best advice. WM

"Negatively" simply meaning a different view on a particular subject. I've already had a couple of posts on my threads that were negative in nature. The real difference between here and a few of those ugly, toxic forums is that even though the guys responded in a negative manner, it was done in a way to NOT be argumentative and certainly didn't insult or belittle me. They were just opinions opposite of mine. I'll never take offense if a fella simply has a different opinion than mine.

Over the years I have had countless and sometimes endless arguments with friends about cars, computers, guns, and pretty much everything else you can think of. I'm a big MOPAR guy, but have friends that wouldn't drive anything other than a Chevy, or maybe it was a Ford. Doesn't matter because those guys are as entitled to their views and opinions as I am to mine. They are as loyal to their choice of cars, computers, or whatever as I am of mine. But, out of some of those arguments came a shared knowledge that benefited us both. I'm seeing that here. I know that there are at least a few guys that think a Hatsan Mod 25 is a really poor choice for an air pistol. I also know there are at least a few guys that think the Mod 25 is a perfectly acceptable choice, and at least one who thinks it's an excellent choice. Fair enough, but I believe I'll try and take advice from those guys that at least find the Mod 25 acceptable. For you guys saying it was a poor choice, I might very well be in agreement with you after I run a few hundred rounds through my Mod 25. Only time will tell.
