Tuning son of a gun this thing actually works..

Recently acquired a new to me Empire XS in .22 It was LOUD, fixed that with a modded Fat Boy. Shot exceptionally well but shot count in my opinion was down. I started backing off the hammer spring tensioner. Things got better when I was 3/4 of a turn from falling out. Pellet velocity didn't start to slow down until the last turn on the screw. Inletted the stock behind the spring adjuster so I could put the stock back on. So far so good. Respectable shot count, good pellet velocity. But now I hear something I never heard before. Not in any air gun I own or have ever owned. Dreaded hammer bounce, and bad. A very distinct brrraaaapppp sound.
Here's my fix for that, 24.5 gram hammer ( stock hammer was 69g )and SSG/HDD. Result so far is a big freaking shot count (on going so no numbers yet) and around 800 fps with 14.5s.
Also a big thank you to Vetmx (Frank) for sending me that spring, but I've not used it yet.

I've got a copy of the Empire XS also.
Right outta box, mine shoots very good. Yeah, it's got a fair amount of mechanical noise, I really don't mind it. As long as no harm is being done, not a problem (just like most all bullpups). Just a little trigger adjustment and lubing, and all is good.

I put a single section of a Huma, M40 on mine. Keeps it short, and really cuts the noise. Added a Primary Arms SLx 3x scope/sight.
It shoots freehand very easily and accurately.
One of my more favorite guns, even over my Impact M3 Compact. and other much more expensive guns !

These are very cool very compact bullpups! Would luv to get one and add a reg....
My XS is blueprinted for flow, SSG, poppet and probably some other stuff. It shoots 18’s 880-910Fps in the usable part of its curve for almost 3 mags. If I had a reg in it, in order to match that performance the reg would have to be set 180ish. No thank you. This will stay my unregulated gun. Love that first shot even if it sits for weeks. The only issue I noticed with mine and I’m not absolutely positive about it because the gun is rarely at my house. My POI vertically follows my tank pressure. It’s not huge but at 30 yards I can watch my POI rise maybe a 1/2 inch as the tank pressure changes. It’s just a shop gun so I didn’t obsess over it. But this winter I will bring it home from the shop and once its here, there is no way I won’t obsess over it. I put a FX amount of pellets through the gun testing different modifications, pellet weights and fill/refill pressures. I shot it so much that I didn’t even want to look at it for a while after it was done. I’m sure by this winter I will have interest in it again. Right now it’s plugging critters in the city.

Thank you for that info! I guess it has a small plenum.....maybe a Harper Slingshot type valve would be better...h'mmm....still very nice and compact.
