Ugly Babies and PCPs…🤓

Recently I heard an interview with a maternity ward nurse. Where she said that most of the time when the babies “are” cute. They say “what a cute baby”. But when the babies “aren’t” cute? They say “oh, she/he looks just like you!” (the parents). This made me chuckle, well really LOL. I don’t know anyone who would call a baby ugly to a parents face. In the context of airguns we know what can happen if you even mildly criticized someone’s rig. Or don’t like some attribute and voice it. Some shooters take personal offense, like you called their babies ugly. And it might start a negative “back and forth”. But rigs aren’t babies and we ought to be able to say if we find a rig or gun to be unappealing for whatever reasons. Most shooters will adapt somewhat to “their” chosen platforms. So in the end, for me, as it applies to PCPs? All personal preferences are valid, even those based on a perception.

I carry the ugly gun label as a badge of honor.
Referring to my USFT…..function over form

kinda like "art"... You look at "it" and wonder, What were they "smoking"? 🤣

Oh, i don't know... I think the Airgun Industry has been pretty creative... Blending "art" and "science" with most, BUT!...

It kinda like Halloween decorations... Some "decorate tastefully" and some just way over "decorate". Then there is those with no scene of aesthetics. But, "flamboyance" is "in" these days.
PCPs dressed up to impress the pests…? I can see that… Aesthetics count for much, we humans are highly visual and if some PCPs don’t appeal on good looks? And this might sound “shallow”, I won’t consider them simply based on that. I like to believe at my 61 years of life. That I know what I might like when I see it.

P.S. A recent thread on a well loved gun went south, because those who didnt love it the same way… Were countered as if they were calling somebody’s baby ugly. We all love our babies, no matter how ugly…🤓

I don’t own one single air gun I would call attractive let alone beautiful.
If you have been at this any length of time you have evolved through a number of guns finding the Goldilocks fit for your gun or guns. We all end up at slightly different destinations because of personal preference, intended use and budgets. Just because your journey took you to Kalamazoo doesn’t mean the guy who ended up in Missoula screwed up.

@L.Leon, quite obvious the thread you're talking about.

I'll present a less charged topic as a tongue in cheek counter example.....
Those stinking Brococks. Man what idiot designed their cocking lever handle?!?! Not the lever but the actual handle. I mean it's got HOLES in it! Everyone knows holes in a cocking handle don't feel right. I know I'll never buy or use or even CONSIDER a gun with holes in the cocking lever. See, I watched this video once and the guy obviously felt discomfort from those everytime he had to hold it to cock the gun. Sure wish Brocock would see the light and move past this sillyness. They're just losing so many sales from leaving it the way it is.

Now, we know you love your Brococks. As someone who owns and uses various Brocock models, you're in a place to tell that person they simply don't know what they're talking about. Youd be the first one to correct the goober with the above complaint. And that's sorta the beauty of an online forum, being able to hear from those who have first-hand experience. The problem with a forum though, is all the folks who claim to know what they're talking about when it comes to guns they've never seen or held in person.

(For those who can't pick up on my satire, I have no issue with the holes in Brococks cocking lever).

@Franklink, you are correct in your above statement. But I only counter those who spread misinformation. If some simply don’t like anything about the Brococks. Even based on perception or esthetics. I never take personal offense.

P.S. I, and many others value all the great information gleaned here on AGN. Your deep dive reviews are but one great example of the wealth of knowledge here. Thank you.

My FX, .22 Bobcat is as aesthetically unpleasant as they come but its accuracy & repeatability is a thing of absolute BEAUTY! It's nice to have "pretty" guns but if they can't deliver in the accuracy department what does it matter? I'd rather have the beauty of dependability & function over looks any day & couldn't care less if someone else might "gag" at my gun's appearance :ROFLMAO:
