Crown vs RAW HM1000X LRT

Others may disagree with me, but you already have a great shooting rifle, especially for 50 yards. I suspect you have window shopper's greed. The RAW is a great gun (I have 22 and 25 calibers) but so is the Crown. They win benchrest and other comps regularly.

I have both. Frankly, I prefer the Crown. The Crown will easily shoot out to 100 yds. accurately if you do your part. The RAW comes tuned to shoot the JSB 25.39's. I have tuned mine down to shoot the 18.13's at 925fps. The Crown does not like the 25's as it takes that fps to stabilize them and I can't get that with the Crown at present. But, I have the 600mm bbl. maybe with the the longer barrel you can get that.if I would not have gotten a super deal on the RAW, I don't believe I would have bought it. I do enjoy shooting both. That being said, unless you have money to burn, stick with the Crown. I can already hear the nay sayers. LOL! P.S. one with no moderator is a good choice. First thing I did when I got mine was to remove the car muffler

I'm a bit biased toward the Crown as I have two MK2 Crowns. Both are currently .22 600mm but I just recently picked up a 500mm .177 on our classifieds. For 50 yard shooting and even 100 yards with pellets and slugs the Crown MK2 is an absolutely fantastic rifle. Both of mine love the 18.13 JSB and the NSA 24.8 grain slugs. The pellets do just slightly better groups at 50 yards, but those NSA slugs at 945fps will do very consistent ragged hole groups at 50 yards. If you are just target shooting and plinking though the pellets are perfect. Tune those 18.13 grains to 880fps and you get a TON of shots per fill.
Now, having praised the Crown so much, I will say that I'm lusting after a RAW HM100X in a grey laminate stock. That will definitely be my next rifle. I don't see it as being better than the Crown MK2, just different. I might even inquire about getting one set up in .177 tuned for the JSB Monster 13.4 grain pellets. Maybe a road trip to Utah is in order to see if they will let me try one out on their range, That would be fun.

The Crown is a proven, award winning platform. I've learned to not immediately jump on my desires until I've worked with & gotten the optimal performance from any given gun & MYSELF with that gun. I think the Crown will keep you occupied (& satisfied) until you've maybe "grown onto" another level. Good luck & good shooting!

If you have the cash, my vote is to buy the RAW and shoot them side-by-side. That is the only way you will be able to tell which one you prefer, and more importantly, which one YOU shoot better. Right now I am shooting a FX Crown vs. a RTI Prophet, and the FX Crown has a slight advantage. With the used airgun market being pretty strong, whichever of the rifles that you want to sell, you won't take a huge loss by selling it. Or, keep the other as a back-up. It wasn't until I owned and shot both rifles that I could start to see and feel the differences. This is a great forum, but your original question is one that only you can answer. Both of those rifles are top class bench rest models.

i have both as well 30 fx and 25 raw , both accurate , fx much lighter for carry , i think the raw will be worth more over time 10 20 years down the road , my guess, the raw is built like a tank , fx to me is ahead in design features , i removed my droop moderator and hacked the carbon fiber off and ordered new cf tubing from amazon and used fiberglass resin on the barrel to re install , came out excellent! so now mine is like the one your looking at ! maybe look at different cal.

I have a RAW HMx LRT chassis .22, fantastic gun! Have shot a friends Crown .22, fantastic gun! They are similar in that they are both excellent bench rest guns. You don't give up much in either platform, both platforms have been around for sometime with small refinements with each iteration and both are stellar.

Both are great guns, the crown can be crazy accurate, less pellet fussy, but is fragile and needs more attention from shooting session to session.

The RAW is very accurate and much more durable, point of impact shifts are less but is much more pellet fussy. It is very heavy though.

Little things to consider is barrel cleaning, the RAW is simple because you don’t have to remove the barrel because of a fragile O-ring that your cleaning patches will eventually tear up. The RAW’s trigger is much better than the FX

The RAW trigger is 1000 times better than the cludge trigger in the Crown.

After all the wasted money I’ve dumped into my Crown I should've just got the RAW.

Having a few types of guns is a good thing ! BUY IT !
Seriously i wake up and the thought of shooting a certain gun that day is great . Maybe ill be shooting the same targets in the same fashion but the different gun makes it more fun , "Can i do the same thing as yesterday ? With a different gun ? "

My competition rifle is a 25 cal MKII in a saber tactical stock and it is a tact driver with 34 grain pellets...I also have an MKI with a 380mm 22 cal barrel shooting the 18's right at 880 FPS. This is my hunting rifle and is good out to 110 yards so far on ground squirrels and dove.

The Crown's trigger is excellent. In my personal opinion, the RAW's is just a bit better. At 50 yard range, a difference in accuracy due to the triggers would likely be negligible. At 100 and further, it might not be.

One poster above also noted that the Crown is a lighter gun. I agree. Better gun for carrying around in the field, for sure. But I bench both my Crowns and my RAWs and the extra weight (plus maybe the shape of the LRT stock) allows me to be just a little more stable on the bench with the RAWs. I have not used the Saber Tactical chassis on a Crown. To me that would be going the wrong direction weight-wise, although it does give more adjustability and the ability to add weights if wanted. But I tried the chassis version of the RAW and didn't like that nearly as much as the big, heavy LRT stock.

The Crown GRS stock is an excellent piece of lumber to me. It fits me really well and allows me to get really stable over the gun. Very comfortable to me from the first time I used one. But there is just something about the cut of the LRT stocks of the RAWs which to me (very personal thing, probably different for everyone) are just slightly better.

So I definitely see the RAWs as being slightly better than the Crowns for personal fit, bench stability, accuracy and trigger. Definitely not game changers to me (in my limited, fun-not-competition needs). Crowns being more mainstream have more accessories readily available, and can easily accommodate things like 700cc bottles. RAWs (until one gets to the newest versions without the big shrouds) can't, and the RAWs could definitely benefit as they are not air efficient, in my book.

Pick your poison. Or have even more fun and pick both!

FX triggers don’t hold a candle to RAW

Both fine rifles. I've owned them all and competed with them as well. I used to shoot 25 and 50M BR with my RAW TM1000 and honestly, my Crowns couldn't beat it. However, the RAW was built and tuned for that one application and would require delving into the innards to make any significant changes unlike the Crowns. The RAW triggers are the BEST in the business. Mine was adjusted to 2 oz. with NO creep. You can't do that with those rinky-dink FX triggers. They are pretty decent, but not to the level of the RAW triggers. I shoot my Crown 600 mm .22 cal with a Crown Saber stock at 100 yards. It does quite well with JSB KO slugs and is much better at 50 yd with JSB 18.1 gr pellets. At my age and level of shooting these days, I'm not willing to replace the Crown with anything else. It's up to me to make things work, not so much the gun.
