Do these slugs appear safe to shoot through a rifled barrel? I just wanted to gather some opinion before taking the risk. They are 47 grain NSA .303 caliber with a screw threaded into the hollow section.

As far as I can tell, the tip of the slug(the screw)doesn't seem like it will make contact with the barrel. Any opinion/ input is appreciated!

I would not do it..but, that’s just me. If you want heavier slugs, why not just buy them?
I would think I would be near impossible to get the machine screw exactly centered..and I shudder to think what it would do to the barrel should it come in contact with the rifling

Yeah the problem is the only other .303 calibers I can find are 61 grain or 68 grain. Neither of those ones cycle reliably in my terminator. With the screw in place it makes these ones 53 grains, plus I'm hoping the steel tip might cause greater penetration overall. Yeah I'm still on the fence about it

Yeah we've got I believe 7 baffles and a donnyfl fx at the end of the barrel. A projectile shouldn't be coming in contact with the baffles in the shroud or the moderator anyways right?

You want extra penetration? Into what? The standard slug will be plenty good for game or pesting you are going to want to do. Adding a mass produced screw into a precision swaged slug just seems gimmickey and probably won't do much for accuracy. You can try shooting groups with and without and see for yourself but I think the screws will upset the flight.

Still don’t think it’s a great idea,but if you still want to do it, look into steel or brass set screws..less chance you’ll hose up the barrel

For the zombie apocalypse if God forbid I run out of 12 gauge shells! I was thinking of just keeping a handful of them ready to go. Right now I'm right on the verge of supersonic with these 47 grain slugs because I'm running extended hammerspring, so I was thinking it could possibly improve accuracy even. Only one way to find out!

I just went ahead and ordered 500 set screws. I'm hoping they have a good amount of weight to them. Thank you everyone for the advice!

If you reload for PB's, maybe try a flash hole deburring tool to open up the h.p. a bit? Just a thought.

That's a good idea. One thing I like better about the screw idea is that it's threaded on, so it's secure when cycling/being shot. I'm thinking if that BB were to rollout and get pinched between the slug and barrel, it could wreak havoc on the rifling.

Too many negatives involved to take the chance with scratching your barrel or screwing up your moderator.
I have a feeling accuracy is already out the window.
I'd try adding a small ball bearing in the hollow point first.
Fpe may not be that far off from the 41g to 53g due to fps is going to be faster with the 41g.
