knowledge needed for 177

I've owned many springers, RWS, Benjamin (marauder), Gamo, and most recent Beeman R9, these were all get with open sights but when I try to add scopes to them they do not stay consistent or hold zero. I think it's because of them being break barrels and to much movement. Never owned a PCP and don't know where to start in purchasing pumps but just want the most consistent 177 cal for shooting sparrows while I sit retired on my porch... Please give me some insight on a 177 wood, fixed barrel, and most consistently accurate pellet gun with rotary clip so I can be the sparrow whapping king.

If you are not too old or decrepit a foot pump can be used, i have one but really i am too decrepit to use it even if i am just in my mid 50ties.
You can get small and cheap compressors too, these will easy fill the bottle on a PCP rifle, some of these are for mains power, other can do that and 12 V too.
Alternative you can get a dive bottle and fill from it, but thats really just a option if you have a dive shop nearby where you can get it filled now and then.
I use a 12 Liter 300 bar bottle myself, and it easy cover a month of shooting for me ( also .177 ) and here i am talking many many 1000 of shots in a month.
One such bottle of course also cost a pretty penny, and getting it filled at the shop or some times fire station, will also cost a little.

Not really able to recommend a rifle to you, but others i am sure can do that

Are you using scope rings with the arrestor pin installed on the R9? Those guns will absolutely cause scope creep and loss of zero without one. My HW95 (same as the R9) has a scope mounted and has zero issues holding zero.

I'm not sure, I ordered a Hawke scope with rings that were all 4 bolt rings but have never hear of the arrestor pin. I hope that's all it will take for my break barrel because I love the gun and the scope. THANK YOU for the advice

You're welcome. Its basically just a little pin that sits in the little cut outs built into the scope rail on the gun. Here's a picture of what it looks like on a UTG mount:

theres alot of factors, levels, sizes, and price points lol .. id say on the thrifty end, just get a stormrider wood 177 and a chinese handpump .. theyre handy and light which is perfect for grab and shoot pesting, and 'usually' halfway accurate out of the box without work .. put it this way, compared to a typical springer, reach and accuracy will most likely double lol ...

I use Sportsmatch H04C medium rings on my HW95 .22, no movement at all. They do have the recoil pin.

For mid powered break barrel guns like the R9, I use BKL Double strap mounts. For heavy recoiling such as a Patriot or Kodiak, I'll use a BKL one piece. Never had a slip. They just wont. Clean and degrease the dovetail on your gun, install the mounts and call it a day.

If you want to go the PCP route, you have dozens of options out there and for what you are wanting to do, most will do just fine. If you are up to pumping, get a cheapie Amazon or Ebay hand pump. I've had FX 4 stage pumps, and others that were high priced. I can say that a $50 hand pump off Ebay was as good or better than all those I've owned. ...of course pumping gets old though.

Get the BKL 263's double strap scope rings and a Bushnell 4x12AO scope and your springer scope troubles we be over.

thank you Tim love my Beeman R9 and have a 3X9 Hawke scope and rings on it are Hawke also but at this point I want a gun that when I pick it up I know I'll be connecting with sparrow death when I pull the trigger... The Hawke scope I have has mill dots that I love and I've never had much luck with the Bushnell scopes. Got factory pickney base on my gun will those rings still work or do I need a new base too? thank you I'll take off my rings and see if they are on them... I feel so stupid not being able to figure the gun out, and I do love this Beeman R9, especially the trigger pull.... All advice is appreciated.... Thanks for taking the time to assist me Todd

Nothing stupid about it man. Springers take time to get used to. Everyone here has gone through exactly what you're going through now. Once you get it down though it becomes very rewarding

Scopes and springers... Lol.. a guy can chase his tail on that. If you ever hit the right combination of all things concidered youll never want to take it loose or off . I got tired of the scope on a springer chase myself..
These little bushings helped in making the stop hole and the stop pin a tight fit.
Also make sure the clamp jaw thing is oriented the right way (11mm or 3/8 sided). Clean any oils from the dovetails grove and the mount clamp. Toque screws properly . Check if mounted scope aint knocking the gun parts loose like stock screws . Stock screws can be a thing on any model..

Man, so much to cover on whats wrong or going on in this topic . And like a million posts covering it to look over..lol just got to review them and apply what you think can work.

Sorry if I missed the post about bushings used for the stop pin holes. What are you using for this?

I use rings with a pic like shown previously. A Tx200 with a CenterPoint 6 to 20. Works great and will cover what you are doing. It sounds like rings and an inexpensive score will work for you to me.
I was going to suggest a TX200 if OP wants to stay with springers. I also like the fact that it’s a rigid barrel. I have an HW95 Luxus and am able to hit 12ga shotgun shells at 50 yards, not every time but I’m new to springers and second time out was accomplishing that. It can only get better, I hope. I’ve read nothing but good stuff about the TX200.

Gas line tubing. That ones copper but i used steel. I got a gun that the stop pin was slowly egging out the stop pin hole and that helped fix that . So now i add one in from the get go.

Let it take any recoil damage before any gun / rail damage. Everything i did to stop that failed to. i even snapped and twisted bits tighting the mount down hard. Added that bushing stays put now normal tighting.

The TX is expensive is all. It will shoot .50 inches at 50 but for me more commonly it is just under an inch.
