Looking for a 10m pistol

Good evening everyone,

As the title suggests, I am looking for a 10m pistol. I'm especially interested in single stroke pneumatics particularly the Walther LPM-1 mk2. My understanding is they tend to be a good bit cheaper than the Feinwerkbau 100, 102, and 103 that I was originally hunting for. I don't really intend to compete, although anything is possible I suppose. Mostly I intend to shoot indoors with my father now that he has retired. We've been really looking into bell targets and setting up a bell target range in his game room (though I'll likely set my own up as well, can't have him pulling too far ahead of me after all). If you've got anything in the closet that you don't think you'll miss too much, let me know, it will have a good home here.

I have strongly considered a izh46 and I haven't completely abandoned the idea, but after talking with Buck (I believe was his name, super helpful and nice gentleman that is their gunsmith there) at Pilkguns the lack of available seals has me a bit hesitant. Also, for reference I already own a HW75, and HW40. Both pistols are fun plinkers and I especially enjoy the HW75 but I'm really after something with a grip that I can make truly fit my hand, or order a set of Rink grips for.

Thank you for any responses or advice,
Growla

Would go with the Baikal, Air Venturi has a version so parts are around. Used to be a seller on Ebay that advertised them so might have a few other sellers for the same... No other SSP in a match configuration is currently available that I am aware of, the rest bring in collector prices. The Daisy 717/747 weren't holding anyone back but we're discontinued as well...

I'll probably end up with the Baikal at the end of all this, but I got in touch with Mr. Thomas Rink last night and he said they actually make grips for the HW75 so I ordered a set this morning. My biggest gripe against that pistol is the grips (which I know everyone else seems to love) but they're a bit too small for my hand; so I spent this evening getting the trigger tuned the way I wanted it, as it has been some 6 years or so since the last time I did it and my preferences have changed a bit.

I'm also pondering on ordering a Walther barrel blank and having my gunsmith turn it down to fit the HW75. I've seen a few reports from people about gaining 25-30 fps by lengthening the barrel using Crosman blanks. I know that isn't much, but its a 7.5 to 9 percent velocity gain without messing with the piston or valves and it puts me a little closer to cutting a clean hole in paper. The only other little nit pick I would have at that point is the twang the hammer makes when it strikes the valve. For less than half what an izzy would cost me, I can probably live with that for the time being until I feel like a change in pistol would actually benefit my scores.

Currently, I don't think I'm even close to good enough for the pistol to be playing a role as a deciding factor, so long as I can at least make it comfortable to shoot.

10 Meter pistols are crazy expensive for a 500 fps shooter. The Air Venturi version of the Baikal is close to $900. I picked up a Crosman 1701p Silhouette pistol for an entry level 10 meter pistol / basement shooter. The trigger is not the greatest out of the box but you can tweak them. The reservoir is small, 50 cc's and I have left the hammer spring alone. 50 to 60 shots right around 500 fps. I purchased some aftermarket lefty grips and a Williams peep sight to complete the pistol. Right around $600 for a basement shooter. Very easy to hand pump if no PCP equipment is available.

Or ... go GISS !!! and pick up a Vintage Diana 6M or 10, vintage Wichester 363 (y)

10M can be a lot of fun .. here some encouragement
Top to bottom ...
Air Arms Alfa Proj .. PCP
BK 46 std .. SSP
Winchester 363 .. GISS
Diana 6M .. GISS
Beeman P17 ... SSP

Well I just found and bought a FWB 65 and a Diana RWS 6G so I’ll be a few decades behind everyone else here, but that’s perfectly ok with me!

I’ve also got a walther polygonal rifled, choked barrel on the way for my hw75 as well as the Rink grips so I should have 3 fairly capable pistols very soon.

I really thought I had sufficiently scratched my itch, but I'm not sure that I have. I'm finding myself hunting for a co2 match pistol (12g style) and I am having some difficulty tracking anything down. The Drulov DU10 looks like a blast, I did find a place that sells Baikal mp657s but I can't find much info on them. I've also finally found a place I can order a Tau 7 but they are significantly more expensive than I expected based on the prices I have seen for used ones. As far as I can tell the Alfa project co2 version is completely gone other than in the used market, which is a shame because I hear it was a fantastic co2 pistol.

Am I missing any good ones? Anything else I need to try and track down? Or leads for any of the above?

Vintage Skanaker CO2 is a nice kit. My advice save and get a Morini. Mine is awesome. Best grips ever. Competitors use Morini grips. Available small, medium, and large. electric trigger is reliable and also awesome. At 50 feet bench rested with scope at 20X equals same hole accuracy.
I have one barrel for scope and one for iron sights. Swapping barrels is easy, only 2 set screws.

Don C,
I recall seeing a skanaker for sale at some point but didn’t realize at the time it was not actually made by Daisy and I wrote it off. I may have to hunt and see if I can’t come up with that post.

It’s really not an issue of being able to buy a pcp, I have the funds, I just don’t want to spend them on that. I feel like the fun to money ratio on initial pcp startup is a bit too askew for me. For the price of a scuba tank, I can have 2 seal sets on hand and 15000 pellets. To me, that’s a no brainer, but again, I’m bullheaded 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a Beeman Original 6(DIana Giss) a Hw 75 and an AV 46m and as far as shooting neither of the first two hold a candle to the AV. Cocking effort on it is so easy that and extended shooting session is not tiresome. The Beeman is heavy and a bit awkward, but very accurate as the HW, but the cocking effort on the HW is a bit much. It does look more like a "real gun"and is also heavy. Both the HW and the AV can safely be dry fired. My recommendation would be to go the AV in spite of the extra cost.

jkingrph has it right. The Original/Beeman/RWS 6 is an odd bird to shoot, but very accurate. I have no experience with the HW line of pistols. The IZH-46m/AV-46m is the best, most reliable option still available new. The Walther LPM-1 is a great pistol, but the original grips were way to small for my hands, and I did not want to modify them, so I sold it. I wonder what happened to the FAS 6004?

Well, as luck would have it, not only did I pick up Ron's FEG, but I also stumbled into a FWB 100 once I gave up and stopped looking for one! So while I had every intention of picking up some form of the IZH46M (and I likely still will) that is an acquisition sitting on the back burner at the moment. I have the ssp I set out to get first on the way. The Drulov 10 is still absolutely on my list but I'm really looking forward to getting my hand on this FEG.

Welcome to the addiction. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave... Been there since the early 90s.

If you've got your hands on a FWB 100 (or 102/103), you've reached the high end of SSP pistols. Actually, any FWB co2/air pistol will be at the high end.

As for the Drulov DU-10, this is not a a typical 10m air pistol. It's made for the Olympic Rapid Fire discipline, and the trigger is not very suitable for precision target shooting. This is something it shares with other air pistols made for Olympic Rapid Fire (e.g. Steyr LP5/LP50, FWB C5/C55/P56/P58, Aeron B96/B98 and such). Don't get me wrong, the Drulov DU-10 is a blast to shoot, one of the funniest air pistols I have, but it is the opposite of the FWB 100. They are made for two completely different types of shooting. Just a heads up so you won't be surprised or disappointed when you get your hands on a Drulov. :)

Helmet,
I appreciate the heads up on the Drulov. I don’t have any intention of competing seriously with any of them so the trigger differences aren’t a major concern for me. We have however been discussing a 6-10 meter informal match on Thursdays after work (my co workers and I) that would be something along the lines of being your own pistol or draw straws for one of mine and the course of fire would probably change from week to week. Just something fun for bragging and hazing rights until the next week (bring your own pellets). In a situation like that I don’t suspect whoever is shooting the Drulov would be at any more of a disadvantage than whoever ended up with the HW40 (nice pistol but I always manage to nip myself closing it at some point in a string of fire).
I’ll post pictures up (and probably questions) once everything makes it’s way here.
