Handling .177 pellets with bad mitts and eyes...tips and tricks please

If its a break action, the pellet pens work nicely. Otherwise the only thing I can think of is some curved fine tip tweezers.

Yup, a pellet pen works great as long as you have a straight in access to the breach. If you can't fiddle around to load the pen then .177 is just a no go.

I've heard of people using these and they seem to like them.

yes they can be aggravating, its hard for me to get them out of the tin, my fingers are just too big .. id say though, if you have a cloth lined tray or plate and dump a few out at a time theyed be easier to grab and manipulate ..

A guy can even modify a pellet pen to get more of a curve out of it. Basically the end of the pen is a piece of rubber tubing. You can put on a longer piece and curve it to get a pellet to seat. It's basically fuel tubing use for gas powered RC vehicles so a hobby shop has it or get it online.

I'm slowly getting away from 177 because of this reason. Too many dropped or reverse loaded pellets. 22 and 25 just drop right in the mags.

My only 177 I'm keeping is a single shot crosman 2240 bottle gun with a 1720 barrel. Probably move that gun off after I run out of the pellets for it. I can hit my pest birds with 22 or 25 just as easy. I can drop the power back on them for less pass thru if needed for an indoor shoot.

I usually put the foam in the top of tin and dump maybe 20 in. Easier to grab. I roll the round between my fingers to feel for the dome. I still fumble a few, especially on the TX200. This method words best for me.

Get a 177 (FX) that you can use a Stud Mag Loader with. They work well without fiddling.

I’ve noticed over the years that when I switch to shooting my 177’s I’m fumbling and bumbling. But like beerthief said, once I get accustomed to it I’m fine. It just takes a little while to get the fingers calibrated.

Lol.. .177 flathead/ wads i catch myself tring to put them in skirt first. , Now i keep cheap reading glasses handy with them.. ol eyes ain't what they use to be.. but even when younger i tended to oops .177 anyway like a few hit the ground instead of the leade holes.. ya, .22 a bit easyer to see and control.

Here is sort of an example of what I meant. You could even glue the tube to a piece of wood or plastic to get a 90 degree angle. Patient Pending.

It helps when the pellets are arranged in a way you can grab them correctly. I arranged some in foam pads to help me grab them on my bad days.

Tiny pellets and tiny screws, getting to hard to pickup with my fat arthritis fingers, I'm even having trouble with .22 cal now, sheesh, getting old sucks....

I can load small pellets faster using tweezers like the link posted above. A nice side benefit is no need to wash my hands after which is nice when at the range. Granted, not so handy for hunting where you don't have a flat surface to lay the tin.

Forget-about-it,have the same problem loading .177,Get a .22 and be done with it,there are plenty of good .22 air pistols and rifles >.beleive me I have the same problems loading .177 pellet ,why torture yourself,it is not worth it...on the other hand if you need to use .177 because of competition make sure you have a large loading port,another thing is to use high rings. And it ain;t going to get better,the Big A is stating to interfer with my feel.

Try Bobby pins…drill the appropriate size hole in a section of dowel …epoxy in place. With a little practice, you can pick up a pellet out of the tin and place in the chamber. Pull off 90 degrees and close the bolt. Works great for me especially with a fairly low mounted scope.
