Acceptable average 20 yd springer accuracy??

So you got yourself a quality HW spring gun, put a tune kit in it, put a decent scope on it, put a couple tins through it. Not talking about your best day, just your average performance, 10 shot groups 20 yards, what do you expect? ctc measured, not show boating. I'm asking because I really don't know how to tell if I've got a shooter or not. In powder burners, deer rifles I like my guns to be close to an inch at 100 yards, some are better, some 1 1/2" is the best I can get them.

Never grouped a gun at 20yds but here's my LGV at 30m. For scale, the 4 ring measures 30mm/1.18" across.

This group is 30 shots:

And another 20 shot group I did after swapping springs and seals:

I rarely shoot paper. Last week the wife gave me container of cherry tomatoes that turned. Setting them on golf tees at 20 yards I went 16 for 23 hitting them with the 1st shot. That is with my Motorhead tuned .177 HW30 and RWS R10 wadcutters. I shoot this rifle at least 5 times a week free hand and shoot about 500 pellets a week.

Well .... You got to wonder how the tune went. Then some break-in. Pellet picky ? I just put a seal in this r9 .177 using cphp and maybe under 50 shots stock opensights/ irons .

Could it be better ? Ya i guess. Could it be worse? Yup . Cant dsy scoped i rarely use one.

Here's the same at 10m-50y. That same time next 5 + checking how flat the trajectory looked. ( X marks the hold aim points)

Not saying its so Great but maybe a reference you can use some how. You shoot 500- 1000 and then see where you stand .. (opinion)

A 10-shot dime size is good. Here is10-shot .22 Tomahawk size at almost 30 yards.Yes ,best I have ever done with it..My R-7 and .20 R-9 have an easier time being consistent, also the .22 HW97 is really consistent, not quite as accurate though, but an easy-to-shoot springer.
The R-7 is a special one,it is capable of one-hole accuracy, which I am not.....Oh, average less than a nickel, sitting.

Thanks for the input guys, it helps me calibrate. I'm covering quite a few 10 shot groups with a quarter at 20 yds, standing and using a post to rest my hand on. The little HW30s is just starting to settle in with around 350 shots after dropping the tune kit in. I'm figuring out how she likes to be held, and waiting for the AA falcons to arrive. Shooting JSB 7.3 and RWS 7.0 wad cutters. It has been hell on red squirrels at 10 yds! 11 so far, under the bird feeder. The local fox will get fat! I need to just keep shooting, I think it will come together. I have cleaned the bore 3 times (once when I first got it, once when I tore it down after 250 shots to drop the kit in, and today after another 350 shots. Haven't done anything else to the bore.)

Lol.. i blew it.. hard to see that circle this late.. 3 good 2 zonks. Anyway i think i up to 100-120 shots on this new seal. .. oh well better luck next time.🤤

Springers are weird man. Aside from the gun settling in and improving, you'll start noticing little things that the gun does and doesn't like. Over the next few tins you're very likely going just see your average groups get smaller and smaller and it ISN'T just going to be the gun getting better. A lot of it is going to be you.

Stop cleaning the bore. You're ruining your accuracy. Stay with H&N or JSBs and run a few hundred shots through it. You probably know this from PBs, barrels need to be seasoned or fouled after cleaning. Same applies to airguns. It can take a long time to do that after a thorough cleaning. Stay away from Crosman they are hard lead and strip any soft lead seasoning you've done.

The only time I clean a bore is if it's new or new to me or I'm tuning a gun for someone. Even then I'll run several hundred pellets through it to season the barrel and break in the gun. Seasoning is a big part of why new guns really come together after a tin or two.

Open sights 1 to 1.5 inches. With a Red Dot the same on a good day. Scoped .75 inches or smaller.
Off of a bag.

I don't shoot off bag unless I'm sighting in a gun. I find shooting paper boring unless I'm shooting indoor.

I shoot reactive targets on my 40 yard outdoor range aways off hand or with my shooting sticks. It is how you would hunt. There are no bags in the field.

I highly recommend H&N Field Target Trophy 8.64 452 head size for the HW30. I cleaned my HW30 barrel when I took it out of the box. I have not cleaned it since. I have at least five tins of pellets through my HW30 and a Vortek kit. I can hit nickels at 50 yards off the bag when the wind cooperates. One of my favorite Weihrauchs.
I too love my Hw30s. By far my favorite guns. My two Hw30s haven't been cleaned since summer of 2019 when I stopped shooting Crosman pellets. There's ten thousand plus shots through each of them since. All I shoot through them (and all my Weihrauchs) is JSB, H&N and occasionally RWS wadcutters. Mostly JSBs in my 177s and H&Ns in my 22s.

Well for fun and nothing better to do i slapped this gamo package scope on this morning to see vs my iron shots. Lol.. still new seal under 200 shots 20y. Should mention the spring (arh) is not fresh i just been playing around with seals over time , over a year and high shot count on the spring or so? +/-. So its relaxed well. ..
