Best Semi auto air gun, Ed Gun vs Western Air gun vs Vs Huben vs LCS Air gun SK19

Best Semi auto air gun, Ed Gun vs Western Air gun vs Vs Huben vs LCS Air gun SK19

If I am missing any good air guns let me know.

Please note if I misrepresented any facts below, I apologize.

Purpose: I am looking for this gun for eradication hunting.

Guns I am considering Western airgun sidewinder, Ed Gun Leshy 2, Klibrgun, Huben or styer, LCS 19

So far I like the Western Airgun Sidewinder the best.

Ed gun:

Great gun nice light good history from what I read.

Downside: The magazine only hold 8 also needs filling every 36 to 45 shoots.

I think they make a bigger air bottle

Western Airgun:

According to air guns of Arizona the Western airgun sidewinder 80 shoots at 80 foot pounds give you 900 Feet per second. at 120 foot pounds 30shoots. I read on the website it says 30 to 265 depending on. So a lot of shoots per fill.

Also it has a non fixed magazine

AR grip style allows for custom fit.

LCS:

Has fixed magazine. 75 shoots per fill. I dno not know much else about this gun any other info would be great.

Huben

I heard this is great for long distances. But for eridcation hunting better for long distances.

Styer pro:

Do not know much about this.

I like my L2. Easy to grab and go, very compact fits in a pack, and completely safe when folded. Close friends both have hubens and swear by them. They’re shooting a range from very low power to very high efficiently in 22 and 25 calibers, and both agree they are the best guns they’ve owned. Can’t go wrong with either.
Only reason I don’t own a Huben is the fixed mag.

The edgun still catches my eye every time I pass by one.

I liked my Huben .25 that I bought in december so much that I bought another Huben .22 a couple weeks ago.

My .25 is shooting 33.95 at 65 fpe very consistently and very accurately at 100 yards and the trigger is superb (its no taipan trigger, I compare all triggers to that) and it is light and ergonomic.

My .22 is shooting 15.89 at 815 fps (about 25ish fpe) for over 130 shots (stopped counting at 130) on a tube rifle!!!! it too is obviously light and ergonomic.

Both rifles being exactly the same are incredibly easy to work on as well.

I wish it wasn't so expensive to try them all via your own purchases because I feel owners of each individual rifle you mentioned all love a handful of things about them.

I have a .22 Huben and love it. I was a bit worried about the fixed mag but it really is not an issue for me. I get 19 shots (17 for the .25) which is a lot, and while reloading is different - becasuse the mag is on the gun - it really takes about the same amount of time as my other mags do on a per shot basis. While I agree that the removable mag of the Sidewinder is a great improvement, do be aware that it is smaller so you lose a few shots, and these mags are expensive - they are precision machined metal parts (because all these guns shoot the pellets out of the magazine directly) and will cost over $200 each. And there won't be any cheaper 3-D printed parts from outfits like CARM at any point - somebody might make an aftermarket mag, but it will still be well over $100 each. I don't see many people with a Sidewinder having three or four spare mags loaded and ready to go at those prices.

The one real knock I have against the Huben is that they do not have a safety up by the trigger, as all the other ones on your list have. All it has is the fire/safe switch at the rear of the gun, and while it works flawlessly, and I agree that the shooter is the most important safety feature, I do like having a non-automatic selectable safety near the trigger that I can activate easily without breaking my sight picture - especially on a gun that is always ready to fire when off safe, and the Huben does not have it. That said, I absolutely love the gun, and that is the one change I would make, but obviously it was not something that caused me to get the LCS or L2 instead as I was looking at those too (Sidewinder was not available when I got it in 2021).

From all reports from people that have shot the different brands of these types of guns, the trigger on the Huben is the best of the bunch. I have not shot the others, but I can attest to the Huben's trigger being very very good out the box, and better when you get it set the way you like. It is amazingly good for a pullpup, let alone a semi-auto - it breaks cleanly and predictably at a nice low level, and completely resets for follow up shots all at the second stage. It only takes about a mm or so movement to reset and take the next shot, so if you want to you can dump most of the mag almost as fast as some full autos do.

I also like how clean the lines are on the Huben, without all the extra tactical looking nonsense - much less stuff for brush to catch on in the field, and very robust as a platform.

The other great thing about the Huben is that Kelly at KRAZCool Airguns has about the best service I've ever seen, and even without him you can buy every single part on the Huben directly so you never are out of luck on parts - I have a stash of anything I might need already - and with Gregor's videos doing your own service is a breeze.

I'd say that is about it for the major differences - most of these guns are amazingly adjustable on the fly as a common feature, and I do love that on my Huben.

I will add to this and say that John @ New England Airgun is also very awesome to deal with and great service, literally walked me through disassembly of the rifle with me right there explaining why this and why that without hesitation and always answers my calls when I have a question. John and Kelly work pretty closely together.

I chose the Steyr ProX.

In 22 cal its around 30 fpe and the mid weight pellets shoot best in it - 13 to 18gr.
The noise by your ear is louder than most other airguns.
It's a little heavy-ish but very ergonomic and is great for offhand shooting.
Trigger is nice.
It is reliable and there haven't been any leaks.
I like the magazines but they are expensive and so is the gun.
Build quality is top of the line.

If I found a gun equal in most aspects but with more magazine capacity and with less noise by the ear I might consider buying one.

I have owned a leshiy 2 and a huben specifically at the same time so I could make a better choice for myself, I have also shot the springbuck and the sidewinder. At this current time and all the things I have tested the huben 100% gets my vote. Now don't get me wrong the L2 is an amazing piece BUT for me the huben checked more boxes, I can go more in depth if you want some more information because I don't want to flood this thread with a crazy amount of data and pictures etc. I will say why it is my choice over the L2 is the huben is very very quiet I added a atom on Kelly's recommendation and in .25 even at 900fps it sounded broken I needed to get the chrony to double check. The next thing was on the fly power adjustment I have only just began my testing with different ammos but on my .22 I was able to go anywhere from 400fps all the way up to 1100+ with just the power wheel and reg at 140/150b in .22 with 25gr monsters I was able to get it to 58fpe now think about that that's 10fpe less than @CTairgunner1288 .25 but his is set up for a specific purpose just saying it has power on tap. Another bonus was like my buddy above said @CTairgunner1288 too was getting about 135 shots on a 300b fill in .22. Does the mag being fix throw me not even a little because it's 1 more shot over 2 mags on the L2. Compact size even with the atom was on par with all my Compact pcps and the bonus is your getting a full length barrel because of the bullpup configuration. The sidewinder has potential to be a great gun but doesn't feel as robust as others and I found the trigger to be sloppy it was not mine so it can possibly be adjusted. Springbuck is exactly that it had a Spring twang that re-cocks it and loading the magazine was a bit of a pain. Any questions at all please feel free to reach out.

It seem there are now more semi autos to consider.

Kaliber gun seem to have 2 now, the springbok which i understand are in the sale pipeline, and the snipe which have not seen much mentioning yet, so it might be a little while before we see that one ( snipe being my favorite as it is not bulpup )

There are a couple of videos on the snipe, though in a exotic language with no sun titles, but at least you can get a look at it.

TBH i really want one, but ! there are other regular rifles i would like even more, so semi are not on my immediate future.

The sidewinder is the only semi auto I have own.

Couldn’t be happier !!

Yesterday I shot two pellet to stones the size of a golf ball at 190 yards. I hit the stones on both shots !!!

At least myself may not expect more from an air rifle.

Take into consideration that I am not as good shooter as many of you !!

I have the Western rattler 357 and it's fantastic and a huban k1 25 caliber which is also fantastic. Really depends exactly what you want to hunt. I was really worried about the fixed mag because before these two guns everything I used had magazines you could just change out, once you get used to the fixed mags is really not a problem. I can reload my Huben (17 shots) in about a minute so it's not a big deal. Yeah being able to change out magazines are slightly faster but for the accuracy and dependability of it, a fixed magazine is a small price to pay. I'm never owned any of the other guns on your list so I can't personally speak on them but from everything I've seen they're all fantastic in their own ways.

I just sent you a PM i live mass not sure if I met you at a gun range if i could shoot a few of your guns? I would even be willing to pay you.

I also live in Massachusetts if anybody would be willing to let me shoot one of their guns I would certainly appreciate it. I wouldn't even mind paying someone to let me shoot their gun at the gun range with them. Or buy them lunch period I really wish I could try these out before buying them. I'm thinking I'm going to buy two guns. One of them will be a western air gun. I'm also looking for people to go eradication hunting with rats and pigeons. I was recently down in Florida and did an iguana hunt and it was a blast
