This was an unplanned video. I was at the range for practice today and it began to rain. As I was planning to shoot paper there was not much chance the targets would survive the rain. So, I used the break to answer a couple of backchannel questions about how I set up and shoot my TX200 MKIII off a bench. While the TX is known for being tame springer it is still a springer. I use these for prone shooting as well.
I do not claim to have an end-all or be-all systems. I know what works from me. I know that the artillery hold is the most common recommendation for a basic starting point. There are videos on using this hold and so I do not repleast that here. Much like Newick in his book The Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy I think we each find our own path.
I do not shoot rifle off-hand very often. I shoot from a bench, or prone for the most part. I spent many months trying various systems and holds to figure out worked best for my rifle with my shooting style. I wanted to have a couple of options to work with when shooting. Everyone will find things that are a bit unique to their rig. This process led me to develop my bag system and a front rest system. This rig differs a great deal from my rimfire systems which tend to be more traditional.
There is nothing unique about these systems. I do not claim that these are the best, only or optimal way to shoot your rig. I think everyone will develop their own style over time. The video is just to provide some options to how I approach it in case it helps someone else.
If it interesting for, or useful to, someone else great. No promises. Again, it is an unplanned project.
