Typical Barrel Twist Rates for Slug Barrels?

I think the below video might point you in the right direction. I do know that channel has a video where they talk about twist rates as they were developing a barrel or maybe it was for the development of their slugs. Since the video is so long I can't be sure if it's in this video. If it's not then I suggest you look at the second video. Both are really informative regardless.

There are calculators for twist rates which will get you in the right ballpark at speeds below about 1000 ft/sec (Kolbe calculator), thought they are not so good above that speed. There are much more complex methods where the specific slug design can be taken into account, but they are not generally available to the public and are complicated to use. Using the simpler ones will help as a starting point, but they cannot usually take into account large hollow points or hollow bases.

If you don’t know anything about slug barrels, how are you going to help a company develop one? Are you misleading this company into thinking you are smarter than you actually are? It’s ok to just tell a person or company no, I’m not knowledgeable in that area.
I agree the last thing you you want is leading a company the wrong way and possibly having them spend thousands of dollars and get nowhere.

You can google up what FX uses. Their "superior liner" which comes on most of their guns ranges from 1:18 on the 177 to 1:24 on the 22 and 25. They say it will shoot lighter slugs and hybrids. Their slug liners, meant for heavier slugs are 1:16 for 22 and 25 and 1:18 for 30 caliber. There isn't a slug liner for the 177, maybe that's why the superior liner has a faster twist rate for the 177.

Oh, I'm thoroughly ticked off about it. They asked me to test the barrels when I was just trying to get a new model of gun half off, to do a video. At the time it sounded fine. Then I realized I don't have time for this crap, (the last thing I want to do it shoot guns in my free time). I told them this and offered to send the stuff back at my expence, they said, "Just test the barrels, forget the video" ...I told them "I don't know anything about slugs or slug shooting". I have tried to get out of it multiple times. They are not listening. ....Now I told them I was consulting "the experts" on AGN.

so far this is the only good info I have got off this thread: IMHO, choked slug barrel is for lazy slug shooters who are to lazy to measure their groove diameter and size their slugs to.0005 to.001 larger than that. That's right from Roach Creek who knows a heck of a lot more than most of us.

I will relay this info.

Someone told me the prefered slug twist rates but I don't remember them. It was either faster or slower.

...WAIT! :

Thank you! Great info! I will let the company know. Thanks Expert! -Nate

You don’t HAVE to do anything. Testing slugs, slug diameters, weights, barrels, and chamber depths is massively time consuming. If you don’t get in over your head, you don’t have to worry about looking like a fool. Trust me, there is no way to fudge your way through developing a slug barrel. Unless you are extremely lucky. In which case you buy a lottery ticket and say the heck with making videos.

They were just asking a favor, I'm not getting money off it. LW has already sent samples. The barrels all suck, or I suck, probably both...I advised them to buy a bunch of slugs and a gun vice. ...also to loose the choke.

They assumed because I have a large airgun channel, that I know about airguns and shooting. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I know how to edit video...that's why I have a successful channel.

Some of you are already clued in on that. Fake it till you make it. I guess I faked it a little too good.

LCS Donny and the Pellet Shop have offered a VERY limited run of LCS guns adapted with FX barrels, but they are choked. You cannot buy any of the parts. That said, I bought 22 and 25 unchoked LW barrels and machined them to fit for slug testing. My gun is currently at LCS for service. Perhaps I'll purchase a couple FX barrels and machine parts to adapt the 14mm FX barrels to the 16mm LCS setup. I have CNC access to make a production run if they wanted.

I admire your honesty.

You never represented otherwise. I enjoy your videos. If I were to make a suggestion, test every gun at the same distances so the viewer can draw comparative conclusions.
