Picked up an old rifle dad had in the corner. He got it quite a few years ago from a friend whose wife didn’t like hunting and found them in the garage, so the guy had to get rid of them. He knew dad shot and gave them to him.
It is an old Crosman Piwermaster 66. It’s got some rust on the outside, but overall doesn’t look too bad. The plastic stock and forearm have held up well. It had an old Tasso 4x15 scope on it. The crosshair is fine and clear, but the front lens is pretty well frosted over from years of dust and stuff settling on it. I could kind of see through it at a bullseye target so figured I would try it out for a little fun this evening.
I used RWS Hobby 7.0 gr oellets. I pumped 10 times for each shot. Target distances were 10 yd, 30 yd, and then 20 yd. I put 5 shots in the target at each distance. I was concerned with group size not scoring center of bull. My position was off shooting sticks sitting on a box. This is my normal field target position.
Really amazed at how well this old rifle did. Since I shot the 20 yd target last, I think I was getting a little tired, and my eyes were having trouble seeing through the scope clearly. I know I shot 5 at 30 yd, but hard to believe 2 went into the same hole although it is a little bigger than a single pellet.
I may get a little better scope to see what this old rifle can do when I can actually see the target.
Here are the pics for your enjoyment. I had a relaxing end to a busy day at work.
