Daystate Red wolf any advantages 25 cal vs 22 pellets only

Are there really any other advantages same gun just different barrels and set at both the same fpe say 55 ftlbs only advantages I see for 25 would be a bigger hole and more shots am I missing any
I was thinking of switching my 22 red wolf over to 25 cal then thought why
What are you goals and what are you trying to accomplish? You could make arguments either way. I wouldn’t factor in 34g .22 pellets however, unless you love them, as I don’t know anyone shooting them. (That doesn’t mean nobody is shooting them.)

If it was for competition, it would be hard to ignore some of the comments over the last year about .22 MRDs lacking and the .25s being better. I personally cannot speak to that, as I haven’t tested a 25 against newer 22 pellets.

I liked my 22 because of the 18gr pellets. I liked being able to get 500 of those and shoot a lot more than any of the other sizes. At 50 yards, I could sometimes beat the 25gr. To me, that was worth it, for the cheaper pellets and hours more shooting. That being said, I wouldn’t try to win a bench rest competition at 100 yards with 18gr pellets!

Most of my shooting is at 50-100 yards with 50 being a default, so I like the 22 and the versatility. That being said, I am trying to convince myself to go longer and so I am considering going to 25 or even back to 30 or even to slugs. 25 will probably be my next one, as the two 25’s I had weren’t around long enough to really have fun and play, and I want to try something different. I had a 30 and loved it, but I liked cheaper ammo more, as it wasn’t for competition. Just because stuff wins competitions, it doesn’t mean it is the gun for me. Maybe not for you either?

25 cal for hunting, .177/.22 for paper punching imo.

I could write a long story here explaining my opinion but its a beaten horse imo, I'll summarize

.25 cal can easily tune for 21-70 fpe (shooting nominal pellet weights)
.22 cal can easily tune for 15-50 fpe (shooting nominal pellet weights)

I'd rather have that extra 20 fpe up top than the 6 fpe less on the bottom...

Clearly .25 ammo will have better bc.

Bigger hole, bigger damage on tissue, faster dead. This rule is a natural one !!

I know when it comes to pb and bullets the longer sleeker bullet of the same weight has higher bc so I thought 34 gr pellets in 22 cal would have higher bc than the 25 cal 34 gr pellets maybe not so in the pellet world ???

For the same weight sure, .22 should...but I am unaware of anyone shooting 34gr commonly in .22 so its not really a valid comparison, where 34 gr is super common in .25 cal.

So that at best leaves comparing 25.4 gr in 22 to 33.4 in 25...for practical purposes, opposed to just on paper.

I have been testing the .34 grain pellets on my Wolverine HP .22 Cal.

I do not like it at all. I get about 790 fps..... Not practical at all for hunting at variable range....To much drop.

A Cricket TACTICAL 700 MM shooting at 55 fpe that means 855 fps with the .34 grain could be the appropriate rifle for that pellet..... Could be.....

Tis my point, likewise my .22 cal does the same!

"I was thinking of switching my 22 red wolf over to 25 cal then thought why".

For me it became a matter of my (previous) .22 RW HP ONLY shooting years-old-vintage Redesigns and Daystate Rangemaster equivalents well. All other RD versions and variants averaged 4-8 MOA. So unable to locate any museums or antiques stores willing to sell years-old vintage RDs, and the only place in Cyberspace with Ranghemasters in stock being Daystate themselves (at almost $200 per tin... before international shipping), my .25 replacement RW HP shoots READILY AVAILABLE 33.95 JSB AND FX as well as my .22 RW shot Unobtanium ammo. Meaning, as well as One should EXPECT from a $3000 pellet gun.
