HW/Weihrauch My first springer. HW 35e

I use my 35E with the stock sights for pine squirrels around my house almost every day. Little buggers are always nesting in the trees around the house making a mess with the pine cones on my decks. I wack them from 10 to 25 yards and aim for a shoulder or head. I am surprised if I miss. LOL.

I just installed a Maccari spring and Vortek seal. Getting 11pfe with H&N Field Target Trophy's. with a head diameter of 4.50mm. I can keep the group under 1" at 25 yards most of the time. The gun just shoots so well I can't put it down. The new spring is so quiet with a such a smooth shot cycle. No vibration at all.

Great first springer for sure.

I have switched from scope to iron sights on my HW35E. Like the look of the gun more and getting good groups. Enough to hunt small game say up to 30 yards.

Thanks. The figuring in the wood is very 3d. Changing the viewing angle, the lighter parts turn dark and vice versa if that makes any sense. The pictures don’t do it justice as it looks different from every angle. The rifle is .177.
I’m leaning towards one of the airmax scopes as they seem to receive good comments on this forum. Rings have me confused. I understand mounting and sizing the scope diameter. I have several very nice scopes on other (not air gun) rifles. I have a Leupold vx-6, Zeiss, and aimpoint. I usually mount scopes as low as possible. I see some folks on here mount scopes with the original sights still on the gun. I think I would like to try that. The barrel droop thing has me confused. I understand what it is. How do I know how bad it is and if a need adjustable rings? I understand a canted one piece mount, but these mount’s adjustable for windage and elevation just seem too complicated. Any specific recommendations are appreciated.
Regarding scope magnification, I was thinking 3x9. But, it seems a lot prefer 4x16. Can I really use 16x at 30 yards?
thanks again for your expertise.
When you sight that scope in at 25 yards you will know real quick how much droop you have. You might get lucky, but if not the place you bought it from can bend that droop out with their barrel press. That is if you don't want to use a drooper mount, I hate those things, got one on my 48.

No droop.
No scope.
Rear peep.

Just a suggestion. The 35 is designed for iron sights. The drop in the stock and the barrel droop. A diopter on the gun brings this old classic to its best form. It’s fun to shoot and keeps the balance and weight of the rifle as it was intended. Also fixes the barrel droop. A scope can go on any other as you already have. This is my 35E with the diopter and it’s a perfect set up like this. Sorry to all who have seen this picture but it’s a great option for someone who is at this stage with such a gorgeous rifle. You got something special, I’d keep it special.View attachment 382919
What make and model is that diopter on your 35, Bear Of Grayling?

It’s a Weihrauch diopter. Weihrauch discontinued them decades ago. Can still be found on sights like eBay. The older Weihrauch’s rifles were produced with a 13 mm dovetail. The newer ones (past 40 years) are a 11 mm dovetail. Be certain that you’re getting the 11mm version. Also a Anschutz diopter fits the 11 mm dovetail. Anschutz diopters are wonderful also. And easier to find. Be prepared to spend $150-$225. There are some cheap China made ones but they can damage the dovetailed receiver. They also don’t function well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I can tell there is a lot of knowledge and expertise in the forums. My head is swimming with thoughts on which direction to go with scope vs diopter. The diopter sights are intriguing and look way cool on this rifle. Do they work with old eyes with astigmatism?
I can tell this hobby is going to be like my other interests. The more I research and learn, the more it’s going to cost!
so, today I’m going to do something simple… go to Walmart and buy some CPHP pellets to use during break in, and look for a cleaning kit for .177. Then, do some shooting.

Irons, diopter, scope, you got to just try and see whats to your personal liking..

Personally any of the 3 works fine , but i prefer irons then time to time for a change of pace slap a optic on .. its all good .. all you can do is take suggestions and try them out and youll find your comfort zone for your shooting needs. Just because a 100 people say its great you may find just not for you ..

Don't know if it's the lighting or the camera angle, but wow, these shots really show the grain and figuring well. That is a gorgeous stock. And heck yeah, get some ammo and start having some fun shooting with the stock iron sights and go from there.

Diopter sights are wonderful for old eyes with astigmatism. Ask me how I know ;) .Issue with stock notch rear sight is that you can either keep it and the post in focus or you can see your small target, not both. And since lining rear up controls your windage and elevation it’s difficult. I’m good to about 15 yards, but beyond that? With a peep/diopter on rear you’re just centering the front post in a circle and your eye will do that automatically. In the case of fancy diopters there are magnifying optics available also. Williams FP-AG-TK will fit that gun well and be a good starting point to see how you like it.
