FX FX Panthera ISSUES!

I can no longer figure out what is wrong or how to tune my Panthers. First I bought it new two months ago and had issues with grouping at 985fps with HN 30gr slugs .217. First issue the regulator took five minutes after each shot to get back to my set reg pressure. I got a Huma reg and solved this issue. Found the AMP reg was no the right size and works now. Second issue I found the piston was bent from hitting the block to mount front rail. I bored the block and got a gen 2 valve pit and solved the second issue. With everything fixed the gun still can’t get good groups at 126 yards. My Impact MK2 and hit the same hole at this range with no problem. What is a good reg and spring setting to help me get started. I put about 3000 rounds through and can’t get this dialed. Also liner was not all the way in and fixed that and same issue. Please help

Try dropping your speed to 940fps or so ? Did you slug the barrel ? I shoot .218 34gr
So I have a 600mm and they are suppose to have a slug liner. With the continuing issue I bought a Huma slug prob. The new prob allowed me to drop reg 10bar to keep same velocity. The weird thing is when I start hitting at a lower bar like 190bar the gun starts shooting more accurate but speed always goes to 970fps. I ordered some HN .218 30gr slugs to test out. Not sure if it affect the gun but also added a second bottle.

FX are very expensive rifles. Not for the price but for all ammo and gadgets you need to put on them in order to make them shot as a Daystate or Airgun Technology just out of the box.

Some warning should be imposed to sellers to be signed by buyers before being able to acquire them. Something like this:

" Me __________________ as a buyer of this _____________ of FX rifle certify than I am above 18 years old; that I know that this rifle is not a finished article; that I will need to invest in undetermined yet accessories to make it work properly; that price of those accessories is yet undetermined; that this rifle can have defective pieces that supposed to be on guarantee; that the time to get the rifle back fixed on guarantee is undetermined; that the amount and cost of ammo I am going to invest in order to make it work properly is HUGE and undetermined; that FX has not responsibility for any mental damage caused on me by the effort in trying to make this rifle work properly; that FX will nor pay for my psychiatrist treatment so it will be on my own cost.
Me ____________ expressly recognize what above described, so it is my free determination and I will spend the cost to acquire such rifle.

Name

Initials

Signature

Date"

As a consumer it is an info you have the right to know.

As Authority that's an info you have to impose the buyer to know.

@Emu Great post and wouldn’t that be nice 😂. I had a mk1 Crown .22 it is a great airgun but I spent more time fiddling with it because FX gave me the dials to fidget with. Unlike other FX airguns that do seem to need additional undetermined accessories as you described above, the Crown did not need such add ons. With that said I am extremely happy that I recently traded it for a Red Wolf HP in .22. I now only have 3 easy choices; Lo, Med, High power. The electronic trigger is everything I hoped for as I like very light triggers. The Lupo Rosso likes a clean barrel to shoot her best. Now all that time I used to spend fiddling with the dials has been redirected to working on my shoot form which is improving my scores more than the fiddling and fidgeting.

Should be a customer declaration:

I am a customer with tinkering derangement syndrome. I don’t have much experience with the design, repair or tuning of airguns but have watched many YouTube videos in which guys mod their guns to shoot the heaviest slugs at the speed of sound with sub-0.2moa accuracy. I do not have the patience to wait for a regulator or anything else to settle down over the course of a couple months so I’ll take your carefully designed gun, add a bunch of aftermarket parts and then adjust the replacement reg a dozen times, settling on ridiculously high pressure levels that will damage the valve. When it all goes south, I’ll ask members of a forum to work it out for me, while I slowly trickle out the details of what I’ve been doing.

Signed,

Joe the Airgun Plumber.

Drop your speed as other suggested, or raise your reg and add more hammer weight if you have to (may need custom hammer, you said fps drops at higher pressure, that's because the valve is too hard to open, needs more hammer strike). You're pushing a 600mm .22 cal barrel (and the valve system) really hard @ 60+ fpe.

There are other tricks besides hammer weight to increase the strike energy, including increasing hammer travel or increasing the spring rate, but not many FX owners tinker this way...increasing hammer travel is very easy, quite a few ways to skin that cat, use your imagination but be warned you'd have little to no support here doing so.

A good solution here imo is 700mm barrel if you want to keep your speed at 980 fps.

What is weird when the pressure drops to about 138 bar the gun sounds different and shoots at 970fps and shoots hole on hole then after about 10 shots the reg goes back up and speed back at 985 and shoots like crap. Once air pressure from a full 250 bar fill goes to 200-190 bar pressure goes down and speed, but starts shooting accurate. I tried lowering pressure, upping pressure along with hammer and can’t every get it to shoot like that till the tank capacity goes back down. Super weird to me.

At 138 bar your probably off the reg and speed slowed some then it operates like a gun with out a reg it sounds different because the valve is staying open longer and valve opens easier as well

This is the gun setup
-.22 cal 600mm barrel
- 1-16 twist superior heavy liner
-14.8 g brass hammer ( original hammer shot just as bad with new hammer)
- Huma reg
- Huma slug probe
- added dual bottle

Setting now

- reg 140bar
- speed 985-981
- quick tune 2

I have had the same issue with reg set from 125-150 and played with hammer.
Hmm I just tuned my buddy's panthera 700mm 22 at 150bar maxed out hammer on the micro and macro just so it would cock 34 gr with stock hammer over 1000 fps took a couple clicks off the macro and it settled out like 1010 or some where in that area and it was shooting the h/n 34 gr slug I believe

I make and test hammers for dynamics and in fact the maximum usable weight of the hammer is up to 14 grams. ideal is a weight of 13.2-13.6 grams without having to do anything with the hammer spring. I also make my G5 shape slugs with Bc G1 0.279. the only problem I see is in the new slug liner, which has a hard Chok, so I had to reduce the diameter of the slug to 6.33 instead of 6.35. I think you will have to find the correct slug diameter from a manufacturer that will suit the barrel and at a certain speed and pressure. you can't use someone else's settings because each weapon is unique even if it is mass produced. personally better than spending money on a huma slug pin etc. it is better to get different diameters of slugs and try them. and, of course, don't forget that every 10 cm of barrel will add approx. 10 m/s IMG-20231019-WA0004.jpegIMG_20231021_083636.jpg
