N/A Air gun reviews, the good, the bad and the ugly

Some "reviewers" are just out for views and a little side money from youtube. Very little quality content or honesty other than an unboxing, shooting a few mags and swearing it's the next gun of the year. Then they come on here and show their true colors, bash good companies for not giving them the time of day when asking for free stuff, apologize and all is forgiven. It is ok to make a mistake once but when it happens repeatedly over years, that is a character flaw. If want to be taken serious as a gun reviewer, you have to know what you are talking about, spend less time behind the computer editing.

No channel here ... I simply buy them or are fortunate enough to work on those others own ;)
As a mechanic of over 50 years now, there is very little mechanically that I can't diagnose as to function, build QC or design shortcomings once a bit of time is spent shooting or working internally with said Air gun/s.

I try and share pretty mater of fact, state felt or actual changes made for no other reason than FYI .... While at times my lack of PC ( Political correctness ) may upset a manufacturer or distributor in what is "MY" reality, By simply OWNING what opinion you write for others to read allows one to sleep just fine !!

It's ONLY air guns folks ....

Everyone writes their own good reviews, I think, in one way or another. It's the relative lack of bad reviews that matters, because those are written by other people. This holds for everything, like, hotels and so on.
Even forums and fanclubs aren't reliable; the fanclub might be honest but it's still a fan club.
People are strange ... Yet as a person we can understand the Why-For of a NEGATIVE post or specific statement made .... CASE IN POINT

Lets keep it light, but a LOT of the Turk, Spanish & Chinese guns are IMO not worth fixing as an outside service provider ( AKA Junk ) and it would be argued by those who own them as an insult and create bad feelings that would last beyond the subject of the bad review or outspoken negative statement made.

So why speak negatively in an open forum  The resulting push back by those who may view said words & not agree just creates more negativity which leads too an unproductive open conversation ( AKA Pissing match ) And we must recall to our youth .. don't have something nice to say ?, keep your mouth shut !! While I won't agree to that extent, the basic human nature of push back to others words or feelings is not going away

For what it's worth, if it leaks down to regulator set pressure then stays solid, the leak is upstream from the regulator..from the source that feeds the regulator.
just wondering why it doesn't leak on down.. how does regulator affect the leak? that's why I was thinking it might be like a vent on the regulator?

The term "review" has taken on a negative connotation to me. Too many guys calling a brief intro a review.

I had moved away from using that descriptive term but moderators changed the name of my most recent ongoing project to include "review."

Using review in the generally accepted sense, there are many shades of reviewers, and therefore many shades of reviews.

My platform analysis projects represent what I learn about a gun as I get to know it. Most have been reports shared over a couple months, using it in competitions and stating the results and my thoughts. The most recent is in the 14th month. And yes I was given this last gun, although I've joked with airgun buddies that if I were to break down the time I have devoted to the analysis into an hourly rate, it'd be my most expensive airgun!

And yes, I have posted negative aspects of the current and previous guns.

I do my airgun platform analyses not wanting nor expecting to get "paid." I enjoy airguns and the pursuit of precision and accuracy, and I enjoy sharing that with others. I have a full time career/job and don't want my hobby and fun to become work.

There is actually only one YouTube reviewer I truly trust, and that is Project Farm.

Although not Airgun related, I think it would benefit many on AGN as there seems to be quite a few that like tinkering.

This guy purchases ALL items tested and puts them through some pretty thorough tests.

Check out his channel with hundreds of videos. He (Todd) is a Army Veteran and a class act.

Here is a link to Project Farm.

Below is a link to his barrel cleaning video.

When watching Youtube Airgun reviews, make sure you dont waste your on time on:

1. Rick Eutsler (Airgunweb) probably the worst ''reviewer'' out there, all he does is go over the features, praises ''Hawke scopes'' shoots 1 group and its done. No technical information at all.

2. Matt Dubber (Heavily influenced by FX) don't need to tell you more.

3. Teds Holdover (Old Ted was awesome), really liked his content, was very critical of the stuff he reviewed, Untill he got on the money train by FX.

4. AirTac Hunting ( Same as the above )

Channels i like:

5. American Airgun hunter (Love Jim Chapman) shoots groups, goes over the chrony, gives you technical information, also critics very hard.

6. AEAC His normal reviews are very good, lots of information and technical advice also gives you the best information about the gun and pellets.

I would definitely ad "Airgun Channel" ( kaylaindy here ) to the don't waste your time list,.......... absolutely awful, all fluff no substance.

I'm going to pick a small nit, yes Matt Dubber is a FX guy but if you really listen to him he's got some nuggets, ignore the fanboy stuff and he give's some good tuning tips. He 'taught' me not to over power 'air' it destabilizes the slug and wow, he was right. Full disclosure I've got two FX Mavericks and I've more than documented the good the bad and the ugly on getting them tuned and/or fixed.

Sub12 Airgunners is the only YouTube channel worth my time. He doesn’t exactly review in the normal sense but does tell you what he does like and dislikes or what can be improved about models, then proceeds to make upgrades and give you examples of how those upgrades improved or didn’t improve the gun.

I also love watching his machine work, it’s impeccable and extremely entertaining for me.

For big bores I look to Michigan Airgunner. @Cheplicki puts his guns to work and films it. No farting around talking about irrelevant stuff. Additionally, he’s shared information that I’ve applied that actually works. I don’t watch a lot of reviewers, he has emerged as a pretty credible big bore reviewer. I don’t expect to hear a lot about the specs and tuning, but if I want to know if my big bore can take a white tail, he’s my guy.
