HW/Weihrauch Surprisingly Disappointing & Confused

For Christmas I finally broke down and bought a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX. I wanted to see exactly where my 3 Weihrauch's stood. performance wise.
The oldest of the bunch, the HW95 (with a new Vortek PG4 Tune kit) perfomed as expected with an average 765fps shooting H&N Baracuda Match 10.65g pellets.
The HW90, after pumping a tad more air into it, is shooting 905fps average using the same pellets.

This is where Im totally confused and a bit peeved. My HW80 with very little pellets ran throught it (probably less than 250), is averaging a mere 425fps using the same 10.65g H&N's. This rifle is supposed to be a "Magnum" springer or so I thought, yet my Benji & Sheridan's blow it out of the water as far as power goes.

Any idea why Im getting such lackluster performance out of this HW80? Its NEVER been stored cocked, thats for sure. Do I need to break down and buy a Vortek kit for this one as well ? The Vortek kits are smooth as silk and I love how it tamed the HW95, but I read somewhere that power may suffer if I treid putting the kit in the HW80. It seems at this point I have nothing to loose. Geeze.

A chrony and a rangefinder are the two most disappointing tools an airgunner can have... you'll find that your 1000fps airgun shooting 1 inch groups at 50 yards is actually shooting 700fps and 1 inch groups at 20 yards!

That said, I would verify with several pellets and conditions with lighting. A lot of tune kits might drop factory power levels, but of course make for a smoother shooting experience so it's worth it...but at this point, I would think anything might be an improvement over 425fps.

Maybe snatch the 80 down and clean out old lube , inspect , and go back with fresh line .. sometimes after low use / sitting around a bit of tlc can go a long way ..

Also where's your crony set up at ? Muzzle fps or yards down range ...

Maybe ask on this kit for the 80 if you decide to go that way

Shoot six inches away and six inches high in The shooting zone.

That being said the piston seal is bad 100% .. breach seals are not as prone to take a set. The hardened HW parachute seals either take a set and do not open up .. When cocking does it HONK?
It’s time to take it apart and re lube and while in there put a VAC SEAL IN IT OR A QUALITY aftermarket
sizing is key to a short stroked gun.

Do the tissue test on the breech seal. That’s an easy one. If it’s good then tear it down and check the piston seal. I would install the PG4 while it’s apart. Just a better behaving rifle when tuned.
👍 Make sure to polish the inside of the piston and remove the liner. Check for rod trueness..The cocking shoe gets blamed so much for this kit when in reality it’s out of aligned rod causing canTed outer guide.
Also if it’s still spewing oil, the chrono test could be affected
and 👍

Aren't the 80s pre charged pneumatic piston guns? If so, check the charge pressure and increase if need be, then later check to see if it is leaking. Might need to check the piston seal as well. My 50s does about 600fps over chrony with 16gr pellets. Seems the 80 should be well above that not well under.
The HW80 is a Springer, the HW90 is a Gas Ram...

The Crony is set to FPS, at about 3' from the muzzle

The bright side is it's a hw and resolve parts are getable... I kinda agree about the hw factory seal above. I think they purposely use undersized and hard seals to help slam then in the tubes at the assembly line . A tighter soft seal would snag on the tubes cut outs " razor blades" where the small hard seal would stand a better chance to slip by with minimal damage and work out of the box ..🤤

Thanx everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to tear it down and inspect the Piston & Seal to see if anything has gone south while it was sitting idle for the past couple of years. I guess anything is possible, and casnt rule anyting out...

A teardown/inspection/reassembly/proper lube/re-test seems like the best place to start.

I forgot to mention, all 3 rifles are .177 Cal.

I just did a HW 80/R1 .177 that’s doing 810 WITH 10.5 cph. with a average spring. NOT A POWER SPRING ,I did some port work and new guide and tophat
it’s not much harder than a r9 to cock.

so your question was should i take it apart and check on the seal and that is an easy YES
you seem to know enough to do that and i will not tell you how to do it
there have been many cases that a seal is damaged because of dieseling from the first shot, the breech seal can be checked that is free and easy also
but it is more than likely a seal problem
in any case if different pellets show the right numbers, you can do 2 things nothing or take it apart and fix it

Roger that. 810 gives me something to go on at least. Im going to gloss over some YT vids on this rifle to see if anyone else has numbers posted. A baseline starting point is helpful.
