HW/Weihrauch Surprisingly Disappointing & Confused

For Christmas I finally broke down and bought a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX. I wanted to see exactly where my 3 Weihrauch's stood. performance wise.
The oldest of the bunch, the HW95 (with a new Vortek PG4 Tune kit) perfomed as expected with an average 765fps shooting H&N Baracuda Match 10.65g pellets.
The HW90, after pumping a tad more air into it, is shooting 905fps average using the same pellets.

This is where Im totally confused and a bit peeved. My HW80 with very little pellets ran throught it (probably less than 250), is averaging a mere 425fps using the same 10.65g H&N's. This rifle is supposed to be a "Magnum" springer or so I thought, yet my Benji & Sheridan's blow it out of the water as far as power goes.

Any idea why Im getting such lackluster performance out of this HW80? Its NEVER been stored cocked, thats for sure. Do I need to break down and buy a Vortek kit for this one as well ? The Vortek kits are smooth as silk and I love how it tamed the HW95, but I read somewhere that power may suffer if I treid putting the kit in the HW80. It seems at this point I have nothing to loose. Geeze.

if the Weihrauch rifles did not have a history of this it would one thing but they do i have been reading about it for years
so, you fix it and go back shooting
there are many shooters that get their guns and take them apart before shooting them and i thought they were crazy but this sort of thing show they are not
and why the hell does a manufacture use and lube that can detonate when there are lubes that do not
they save a penny but cost the buyer many dollars
and i other thing if a rifle per say should be shooting at 800fps and you have a chronograph that says 425 stop shooting it, it is damaged internally
but that is just me

I made a lot of practice and mistakes with my HW50S with the original Weihrauch full power spring. Due to an improper excess of lubing with oil based grease, I've got dieseling and the collapse of the spring. I agree with the deburr of the sharp edges into the cilinder and I found that's enough to lube the seal with two drops of silicone oil, after a brake cleaner wash, and grease just a little bit the portion of the spring that seats into the piston.
I prefer to service more often but avoiding dieseling.

Roger that. Indeed, after 4 shots at or near 425fps, I stopped shooting it.....in disgust. I knew something was terribly wrong.

KRich the comment about stopping was not meant for you
there has been many posts that i have read in the last 15 years where the shooter thought something was wrong but kept shooting broken spring were the problem and as the spring just marries itself to the main unbroken part the power goes down but the gun still shoots and shoots and shoots and than the other end breaks
and the only way to check is with a chronograph and i bet only 5% or less own one
the damage i have seen on Giss System guns is unbelievable
your 80 will be up and running right and you will have a smile on your face after shooting it

take care

Thanx Mike. Here in the Houston Area we have issues with the sorting facilty. I finally received the Vortek kit yesterday after 2 weeks of waiting. The dampening sleeve was machined wrong, and it ended up seizing in the piston. After speaking with Thomas, he is getting me a replacement sent ASAP, this time shipped UPS. I hope to have it up a shooting early nex week. Hopefully this artic blast will subside by then, and I can get accurate Chrony numbers..

Have all the Weihrauch’s gone to this printed warning label now?View attachment 426682
I’m with you and I hate that warning but it’s important for it to be there because we could easily mistake the rifle for a tennis racket and misuse it.
This warning is on my Ruger .45 and without it being there I would doubtlessly use the pistol as a garden tool.

Doesn't that one have a piston liner? I'm guessing you took it out if Tom is sending you another one of different diameter. I've never got a bad Vortek kit, thank goodness.

Tom's a good guy, I really like him as a person. I've been using his kits since 2016. I still use his stuff but I've gotten a few dud steel sleeved kits. Checking your kits fit after some use is crucial. That's all I have to say about that.

I only use his kits, they are the best IMO. Very easy to cut coils too, without the heating and bending the ends.

I really like Tom, but let me ask you hypothetically, if you've only used his kits. How would you know if they're the best?
Just the fact that it is so much easier to shorten is really all I need. I know I shouldn't judge by youtube videos but I see many failed tune attempts with other springs and some of these guys are not rookies.

Yes sir. The liner is out. This will be my 2nd Vortek install. The 1st went smooth & by the numbers. You can see the ever so slight bulge in the bottom of the piston. These Photos were sent to Thomas of course....mistakes happen, no worries. He took care of it ASAP. I will keep doing business with him for sure. His kits are top notch, and they really tame these springers.

Indeed, .and you cant peel it off...I think its etched on or something. Speaking of which, how does Air Venturi figure into the equation? I find that odd. Are they just web hosting the owners manual? I would think Weihrauch would handle that themselves.

Vortek & TBT are the only Tune kits on the market ? Or are there others I'm not aware of?
The other kit that is popular is made by Jim Maccari at ARH. I have more of these than Vorteks. I do prefer the Vortek piston seals.
