What Paper Target Did You Shoot Today

Hello everyone,

My last card for the morning is shooting the ole Bad JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr right out of the Tin. Couple of the skirts were missing a small area and a lot were deformed and yet I scored a Perfect 30-Count  ? What can I say, the Sniper XR likes JSB pellets 😁o_O:p

Range: Outdoor 25-Yards
Rifle: Brocock Sniper XR .22 caliber
Scope: Athlon Argos BTR Gen2 10-40x56
Pellets: JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr
FPS: 834

I just checked the storage closet, i still have 25 tins of 18.13 JSB's 5.53 from 12 years ago collecting dust. My raw is too hot to shoot them in current form. Have to break out the FX400, or see how fast i can push the 18.13 in the RAW
Well, we know what snipers like to eat!! and it's not barracuda!:p

Hello @manabeknives

Thank you sir. I wonder if they have changed the design over the last 12 years. I know they must have used many replacement dies over the years but will your pellets be the same as today's pellets. These that I am shooting were purchased about a month ago in the 500 piece Tins. I know your must at least better than mine.

Hello everyone,

OK, I shot the last two “re-shoot” pellets on a Full 25-Yard MOA target this morning. These scored very close to the original 10-shot test. The Sniper definitely does not like the H&N Baracuda 18gr, however it did shoot the heavier JTS 21.53gr pellet fairly well. None of the pellets that I re-tested shot as well as the JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr, so I need to spend a bit more time trying to fine tune the rifle to shoot the JSB.

I'm in the middle of tuning my Hatsan air stripper to see if I can reliably reduce group size on my Atomic 22 cal. I am using well sorted JSB 15.89 (not floor sweepings 😂) and shooting over multiple days to average out my abilities and attitude 🤔. I am trying to keep things so the only variable is the cone setting on the stripper. Hatsan recommends 4mm spacing — I started with 3.5 because I guessed at spacing. Pretty close. So you just know I will reshoot that batch with exactly 4mm. So far it appears closer to muzzle is not better, nor is farther. Except I shot with 8mm today and groups were not bad. So far 4mm appears to be the winner with mostly one hole groups and center to center group size at less than one tenth millimeter average over 5 groups! Here is first set of tests (data is scrawled all over the card 😂).

Hello @rsfrid

Boy Ross that is some beautiful shooting. You need some fresh cardboard backing so that your holes are better shaped ( more rounder ? ). You have several really tight "one-hollers" 😁 (y)

That's fresh backer cardboard. Think that is paper tears. I'll probably go back to 4mm setting.

Oh YEAH Ross! You are a mad but smart tinkerer! Great shrinkage (no pun intended) of your already superb grouping skills (with pellets of course 😂 not human GROUPIES)!

or try a spray adhesive instead of tape .. no paper tearing when it's glued to the cardboard. Glue one on top of the other and tear them off when the stack gets too thick

Ross, Can you share more info on the air stripper? Is it a direct screw on fit to the Atomic or do you have to mod it? Where did you purchase it or was it a doner from another rifle? Are you also using a moderator in conjunction with it?

The stripper was purchased from Pyramid Air and is caliber specific. Hatsan makes strippers in 177, 22, and 25 cals. It is a frame that screws onto the end of the threaded barrel and has a brass cone that is adjustable. I just screwed it onto the end of the Atomic where a moderator would go. I do not use a moderator. I tried one, but it didn't help with accuracy and only quieted the report. Since I am indoors in basement with shooting ear muffs, I don't care about noise. Hatsan says that it won't work with a shrouded barrel, but it sure does with my Atomic. Perhaps the "shroud" on the Atomic is not truly a shroud? I started trying one with my RAW, but never finished tuning it. For the stripper to be effective, you have to tune it by starting with cone all the way toward muzzle and move out a couple mm at a time, shooting a few groups at each setting. Once you have a "node" where groups are tight, then move the cone 1 mm at a time back and forth to fine tune groups.

Hello everyone,

I received a new Air Venturi Avenger Gen I, .22cal rifle today just after lunch and spent a good amount of time cleaning the barrel and lubricating all the moving parts. Tim @igolfat8 had alerted me about the barrel on his Avenger was really dirty and to not shoot unit it was super clean.

I set up a warm up target out at 10-Meters and shot two mags ( 10 rounds each ) and also zeroed in the scope at the same time. The wind is blowing so hard, 20 to 25 mph, that I was not expecting a brand new rifle with only 20 rounds down the barrel to shoot two Perfect 200 Points scores, but here are my paper targets for the day 😁 .

I think that I might have found myself a keeper for shooting 10-Meter targets. I’m really looking forward to doing some chronograph work and testing of various pellets.

Range: Outdoor 10-Meters
Rifle: Air Venturi Avenger Gen I, Regulated, .22 caliber
Scope: Vector Optics, Tourex 6-24x50 FFP
Pellets: JTS Dead Center 16.08gr
FPS: ?
FPE: ?
Wind: 20 to 25 mph

I agree with single loading. I bought a Carm Single shot loader and it improved my groups greatly. You are in for a real treat, but it might be hard to beat that Niksan. I shoot H&N 18 grainers in mine. Reg at 1800psi. Fill only to 3600psi. Saw a Youtube on the common first shot flier with some Avengers and it is due to the fill pressure being higher than twice the reg pressure. In any case I never get the first shot fliers.

Awesome shooting @ThomasT. You are in for a treat. Wait till you see what that rifle will do at 50y in calm conditions. Nickel sized groups all day long.

Sometimes the mags can give accuracy issues so you might find your best accuracy using your SST.
Hello @igolfat8

Sure hope this wind has died down some tomorrow, really would like to shoot some 25-yard targets also. Thanks again for you advice and help with making a decision to buy this rifle.

Hello @rsfrid

I am getting ready to place an order with Darko for some more mags and I will add a single loader to the list.
