How does blocking new members from participating help Airgun Nation?

What is the benefit to Airgun Nation community when we block new members from the classified ads and PMs?

I just do not understand the rules help the memberts? Sellers lose buyers, buyers lose out on the oportunity obtain a desired airgun. Who wins? No one should dread being asked a question. Discussion and understanding is a good thing?

Funny people join to be part of the a community, and the first thing Airgun Nation does is limit their participation, odd no?

Another new guy.

Why is asking people to participate in the forum a tiny bit such a big deal? Is it unreasonable for forum members to want to sell or buy items from other members and not just anybody who stops by? I really do not understand why new members get in such a freak out over this. You can do the necessary posts in a day or two. That is so terrible?

He's mad because We didn't give him a medal.
Here ya go Buddy.

How do sellers lose out on buyers? There are always buyers.

This is not a way to limit any new members, if anything. It's a way to force you to be productive and give something to the group instead of just taking from it. Plenty of people come here from here say to sell guns or buy guns and that's it.

It may not be the best way to deal with scammers , but it's better than nothing. The type of input you give to the community and seek from the community along with your interaction is what helps you here.

There IS a check box when one registers here.
You agreed by the terms by clicking said box. Now you come a crying about those terms.
Me? I'd delete your account for falsifying your registration agreement.
Try doing that with a real Job and see how that works out for you.
This site is NOT a Government run site so the OWNERS can create rules as they see fit.
We are ALL tolerated guests until We ain't! Live with THAT FACT!

10 days, and 10 post's seems very reasonable.
I was the moderator of a online group once, and the amount of "new enthusiast" every day was alarming.
90% of them turned out to be scammers.

A online group must have some method to seperate the bad guys.
10 days, and 10 posts is one way to do it.
Immediant membership is an open door to scammers.

1. It helps by not allowing people to exploit the members by coming in and perpetuating scams whether it be from a buyer or a seller. If there were no waiting period it would quickly become overrun with scammers.

2. Rules are rules. If you don't like them you can start your own forum.

I don't like some of the rules either but the desire to share and learn is bigger than the desire to shout into the void about changing a community to suit one person's opinion of how someone else's forum should operate. Quite frankly, coming from someone who has a propensity to try to bend any rule I can, they are pretty darn forgiving here compared to many other forums.

AGN is the gated community of the airgun internet forum world. I don't see that as a bad thing.

It's just unfortunate that people have made it necessary. The internet grants anyone with internet on the planet access to anyone else on AlGore's wonderful network. So here we are.

Cheers,

J~

I'm new here and I think this place is more than reasonable. I used to be an administrator of a motorcycle site and the scammers joining were numerous.

1st-- My opinion is this, if I want to purchase I send the money....This is done after I read many seller(s) posts and trust them as a TRUE member of the board.

2nd--I would not even think to sell anything nor would I expect others to even trust me at this point....

In addition, I'm like a Hutterite, Amish or Mennonites that purchases land.....That land never comes up for sale so don't ever expect me to ever place an add to sell anything. Period! HaHaHA

.....Funny people join to be part of the a community, and the first thing Airgun Nation does is limit their participation, odd no?....

That's what you're not understanding. You're defending people that did not join to be part of the community. They joined to either buy something for cheap or to hawk here whatever it is they don't want to pay fees to sell on ebay. All they want to do is duck in and out real quick to hawk their goods. They don't get their instant gratification due to the rules and then they cry about it. And now you cry about it for them.

Try to understand this since you are now bringing up the same nonsense in multiple threads: This is an airgun forum for MEMBERS to discuss airgun matters. The forum also happens to have a trading section for MEMBERS to do business amongst themselves. It is not craigslist. It is not FB marketplace. It is not ebay. Those are the places people can go to sell their crap without any other commitments.

And even if a member could join and instantly do transactions the same day, I wouldn't buy from them or sell to them since they are an unkown value. And there's probably lots of others here who feel the same. So what's the point of harping on about it?

And the 1st thing some new guys do is complain. It's all about building a level of TRUST & getting to know who a member is. Participate in discussions all you want but you can't sell/buy until you've shown SOME level of commitment & involvement. It's NOT a big deal. You can always go to American Airguns Classifieds & post ads immediately. Good luck!

@vintageairguncollector@gm So you decided to create a post about it after you didn’t like members’ responses in the other thread (see post #54 https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/this-is-my-most-dreaded-forum-post.1301834/page-3#post-1679151). Now you’re whining. Have you tried searching the AGN forums for an answer to your question instead of whining about it across multiple threads? What’s crying to us going to do for you? Most of us have been through what you’re whining about. Always remember that participation and membership on AGN is voluntary, so this is what you signed up for unless you failed to read the forum rules. Did you intend to sign up so you could whine about the rules?

It is not an open flea market
"members only" gaining permission to use the classifieds is easy
I think the boys want to buy you a plate of assorted cheeses, it has become sort of a wood shed moment
hope you are not upset with the comments, it is a play ground and the boys will be boys

I posted a WTB ad for a particular gun on another popular site and immediately received a pm from someone who said he had an "immaculate" one he would sell for what would be a quite reasonable price. When I asked for more details and photos he said he couldn't figure out how to post photos on the site and asked for my email address. Something smelled "phishy." I saw that he'd recently joined the site, and the only post he'd ever made was in reply to my WTB. When I asked again for more details he sent me a brief generic paragraph describing how to load the gun!
I do not think asking new members to make a few posts before seeking financial transactions or identifying information from us is unreasonable.
