N/A Sizeing Airgun Slugs

I just wanted to post a simple but important step in getting airgun ammo to correct size.. I'm sizeing using the Lee kit it cost $25.00 mine is for .510 diameter... I'm using my old Redding ULTA mag press...In my case of sizeing 650 grain Spire Point Boat tails a big press with extra leverage a plus...My slugs are cast then powder coated...After that's lube and sizeing.. It's not hard or expensive... Well worth the effort.. I like my slugs cast over bore diameter and then size.to bore diameter...

I shoot cast bullets in my 45 Ibex.I cast 20-1 pure lead pure tin. then size to .457 and lube. I use my Lyman 450 sizer lubrecator. I already had it because I shoot a lot of cast bullets in my PB. the lube I use is the same thing I use for my Black Powder guns. I make it with one tube of Tap Matic Edge Lube and 2 ounces of pure lanolin not lanolin cream. Melt and mix together. Works really well for PB and my Ibex 45 air rifle shooting 300 grain cast bullets.

I've got an AEA .50 but it takes .495" boolits, the LEE Real molds will take the 0.015" sizing but I can't use straight walled boolits, the flow way too much lead.
Maybe look at bullet molds meant for 50 cal pistol .They will have a bigger lube groove that might accomadate the displaced lead. Or try a smaller diameter bullet of really soft lead and maybe it will bump up on take off and fill the bore.

Yupper, the LEE Real boolit has generous grooves but it's still 0.015" too big for the bore.

Have you checked accurate molds? He has an extensive cataloge. He may have something that would work. He will make to your specs as well. Not cheap but top shelf quality and actually resonable for custom molds. I have several of them and they cast great bullets!

No sir, I have boolit molds for everything but .50. Last time I had an Accurate mold made for me, it took 8 months to get to me.

I only do NOE now.
It's been a minute that I've gotten things from NOE, but I thing that they'll make their molds oversized (to requested specs) upon request also.

You have a nice setup... I'm sure your lube works perfect in airgun s....No smoke to deal with...airgun s are forgiving being cold and low pressure... They are easy on slugs...I'm sure that you have cast 1000's of slugs...I'm happy to have your wealth of experience here on the forum...I'm only 3 years deep into casting...Just a baby lol

Ill be 70 in a couple weeks.and ive been casting and reloading for PB since i was 20. And im still learning! I just got into PCP guns about two years ago. Wow what fun and so much more to learn and expirment with!
I got my first Corbin equipment last July. so now also swageing slugs. Corbin makes great stuff and very nice helpfull folks. Im swageing 22 cal now with 25 cal dies on order.
If you got a sizer luber you would be able to get the size die you need. sometimes you can find them at gun show pretty reasonable. Under 50 bucks. Buffalo Arms sells custom sizer dies.

I know swageing is the most accurate way of producing lead slugs...That being said you do one slug at a time in a die...which is slower than casting....But you don't have to size your slugs after being swaged.. Do you notice better accuracy with sewage vs cast? I'm soon going to get a .224 barrel for my condor and start casting for .224... Only reason I'm asking.... Thank you for time

From a PB, swaged boolits are much better than cast, by a wide margin.

I am currently swaging 22 with lots of options with different punches. My Panthera is shooting under an inch at 100yds with my swaged 35.8 grain slugs. I am using lead wire from Corbin. Currently it's $66.00 a ten pound spool. I have a lot of lead so I will get a core mold so I am independent and can't be held hostage by anyone!
I just got an email from Corbin they have a great sale on till the end of April! I have 25 cal dies on order now. As well as a die to swaged my paper patch bullets for my long range muzzeloaders.
Swaging is far superior to casting. But slower I'll give you that.. I've cast 224 bullets in the past. Very demoralizing you cast forever and a very small pile of bullets on the bench! For plinking and just screw g around I shoot store bought stuff. For serious shooting I shoot swaged. Every slug weighs the same!
Today I'm swaging segmenting HP 25 grain. Gophers Wil be Coming out soon here in ND!

Do you cast your own cores? Or.do you buy lead.wire? I'm learning and trying to piece things together one piece of equipment are a time..

I did both, a spool of wire and a good guillotine made for nearly perfect boolits.

I cast cores from a blank LEE gang mold.

With the lee sizing dies, I mount the press upside down. I find it much easier to drop a slug into the die with gravity, and then pull the press handle to push it through. Works much faster for me and most everyone else not fiddling with getting the slug centered on the ram to push it through.

Speaking of custom dies, you can get anything you want in terms of sizing dies here: https://www.northeasttradeco.com/online-store/SIZING-DIES-Threaded-c22095488 I did buy a .580 from John. He said I could even get a .729 (.72 Zeus). I would just need to pay for 1/2 of setup. So you'd be looking at $80 - 90 for a .72 sizer.

I figured cost of the slugs im currently swaging. Im not figureing the cost of equipment because it will last the rest of my life. And i dont figure my time either. Because here in ND from November to April I have a lot of time. Id rather swage slugs for summer shooting than sit looking out the window watching it snow wishing it was summer!!!!! So my 25 grain segmenting HP cost me about 2.5 cents each.
The cost of my Corbin equipment at the time I bought it I was all in for about what my FX Panthera cost. So instead of buying another gun I am now ammo independant!
