N/A First air rifle choice

The .22 is perfectly fine for ground hogs at 50 yds. With modern pcp rifles you can get the same fpe from a .22 as you can a .25 with same weight pellets. Pellets do not expand or cause hydrostatic shock at sub sonic speeds so theres no benefit from the .25 other than a very small increase in diameter. At 50 yds and under its easy taking headshots and a .22 with an 18 gr. JSB will drop them on the spot.
Appreciate the input. I figured shot placement as always is critical but am not as familiar with the fpe spread across pellet/slug airgun ammo. Sounds like either will definitely do the trick so I probably won't be as picky about it. More selection in .22 may make that more favorable though.

I suggest a new Stoeger Bullshark. Available new for under $500. Pretty quiet with the stock baffles and equipped for a thread on moderator. I tuned one recently for another member and his liked H&N Baracuda Match 21 grains and shot them at 850 fps when I turned the hammer spring down a little. It's a regulated gun and will get around 70 shots on a full 250 bar fill. I have three very similar P35s and the worst of any of them has done a 194 on the 30 yard challenge. The 22 has produced one 200 so far. The regulator should come set to 140 bar or so which produces low 30s fpe easily (in 22). It's light and short. About 6 lbs without scope and about 28 inches long. I also have a Air Maks Caiman and it's a nice gun but I still like my P35s too. Caiman cost about 3X as much.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out, sounds like it could be a good alternative option at a lower price point which is always nice.

FX Crown MK1 with scope ~$1k
FX Wildcat MK3 ~$900
Taipan Veteran Long ~$1k
Kalibr Cricket 2 ~$1.2k

What would you choose?
Out of your list I would go with one of these 2 and I would look for a mk2 crown as you sometimes see them priced the same as the mk1 as of recent here on the forums lol .

Crown MK 2 would be my first pick for easily available parts and support .

Taipan veteran for a proven reliable excellent platform .

The others I would skip Just me and my preferance . :coffee:

Taipan seems to be overwhelmingly positive. May have to pick one up for ease of life and a long term ol'reliable.

Theres nothing wrong with .25 or deciding to go with a .25. I have a couple .25 myself but its not needed for your intended use. If .22 is more appealing to you dont worry its plenty to get the job done.

don't forget .22s are cheaper.

Been a while but I ended up with a Taipan Vet .22 Long paired with an Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 2-12x42 optic. Fits perfect in the Pelican V730. Maybe a bit heavy but is just a fantastic and solid air rifle. Only fired out to around 10-15yds but have been able to get nickle-ish sized groups standing. Need to get it somewhere to test out to 30yds+ benched.
