Tuning unchoked cal.22 ammo questions

Hi there, I dont have a Vet II but I think just about every 22 Cal on the planet will shoot JSB 18.13g pellets into small holes. Id start there if you can but them where you live. Other than that you could try to slug your barrel and measure your grooves/lands and order some correct diameter light weight slugs to tryout. I know that isnt much help but I figured some bad advice might be better than zero advice hehe. 😅

Rare rig ... Now take original Mutants or Veterans in .22 cal using the choked CZ barrels .....
At a modest tune of @ 28-32fpe the JSB 15.9 exact or hades shoot spectacular !!! ( @ 900-950 fps)
A choked barrel spits out different pellets well, usually, but..... what about unchoked barrel?

Please dont tell me about CHOKED barrels

If your newest version TAIPAN is sporting an UNCHOKED BARREL ...... Your testing results trump any opinions we may share.
I haven't purchased it yet, that's why I'm asking, to find out if it suits me or not.
I'm not one of those persons who buys and then asks about what they have.
So please don't troll me

Very very few people own one. Like mentioned here, if you want one your the one to test out what shoots good. Unchoked barrels though shoot pellets very well also. My Evol Mini is unchoked and one of the best shooters I've owned. My Taipan Vet Long shoots extremely well and I pretty much removed the entire choke. But it's not true that unchoked barrels can't shoot pellets very well.

Well here is a thread that will help

I will add this as well, I have now tried the FX 25.4 pellets and it loves them too, it actually shoots them better than the 18.13's
I also tried the new AEA 21.9 and 25.3, both shot very well
So basically it will eat pretty much anything you put in it.

Uhmm, this comment is incredibly stupid. Anyone who has spent time on this forum knows Motorheads depth of knowledge. Now I had a vet 2 for about 7-8 months. I found it shot great with 25.4g JSB pellets as well as 28g grands. The guy I sold it to has raved about it shooting 18g FX pellets. Which he powered it down a bit to do. As for slugs? Can't answer that. As for the slow response? Chill. Most Vet fans were not thrilled that the anti double load was not included in the Vet 2 version so sales were slow. It's a rock solid gun at it's price point. Is it a $2000 class gun? No.
Now Motorhead is correct, most of us have shot only the choked CZ barrels on this brand, as such, most would only be guessing as to results. He was only suggesting a logical position, I fail to see why you became frustrated with the answer. Good luck with your search.
Uhmmm I dont think that my comment is " incredibly estupid" , I think it's stupider to comment without knowing what you're talking about. And if i want know and talk about UNCHOKED barrel ....talk about that thing, not another that i dont interested.

Thank you sir. Very informative, (y)

I recently purchased a .22 Taipan Veteran 2 with 550mm CZ unchoked barrel from a AGN member. He had the rifle tuned for 25.39 and the new 28g JSBs.

I left the reg at 150bar, backed off the hammer spring and shot this target with FX (JSB) 18.13g - the 1st 30-Challenge card I shot with the rifle. Scored 200 - never had a rifle score that high on its first card before. 10-ring is .125” diameter.

Velocity is written next to each target - avg about 920fps.

I have not tried 25.39g yet as not sure if I will drop reg pressure and tune for 18.13g (improving efficiency) or if I want to retain a higher powered tune. Wish the 21g MRD lights were available to test in this rifle.

Btw, when zeroing the scope on my Vet 2 at 30 yards I used some Hatsan Vortex Strike 17.75g - it shot them all through one hole - see cardboard - so the 550mm Vet 2 does not seem pellet picky.

I think there is no need to act like a child, especially when asking strangers for free help. People are willing to take time out of their lives to try and help you and therefor deserve some respect. You are being critical of members and their knowledge yet you are displaying the same lack of info. It is pretty well known that most unchoked barrels still do well with the usual good quality pellets. Aside from that you will need to test and measure a specific barrel for good use of slugs. Air rifles are known to be very very picky with slugs, with many never finding a slug that will print decent groups. Maybe not the answers you wanted, but thats what you have been provided so far. Has nothing to do with a Vet II unchoked barrel. I also encourage you to try and understand who is replying to your thread, some of these guys have shot more lead in a year than most of us will in our lifetime. They have custom built and machined countless rigs, and been in more matches than you can shake a stick at.
