American Air Arms EVOL 30 Shot Count

I recently got an EVOL 30 from the classified section here. I already have a EVOL 15. Per the AAA and AoA sites, the 30 should have roughly 30 shots per fill @ 4000psi. I fill the gun up to 4000 psi and I get about 12 shots. Do any EVOL 30 owner members have an extremely low shot count and if so what have you done to get the count up? I have done nothing but shoot the gun, which is a pleasure. Currently I am shooting the ZAN BR 100 56g pellets which the gun shoots extremely well. The pressure on the regulator is set at approximately 2100 psi. The gun does not leak air when it has been sitting that I have noticed at all. Thanks for the help.

I’m NOT an Evol owner and I usually don’t comment on items I know nothing about, but I’ll offer a couple things to possibly consider as depending on which model you have, this could play a big part…

Is it the full length or a Magnon? If a Magnon, it will have a smaller air tank and barrel, so maybe the specs you looked at were for the longer version. If so, there is a good chunk. Maybe?

Those 56gr require some horsepower, and I would guess that the specs on the site probably give estimates based on 44gr pellets, to maximize shot count (most companies do). That would also lower your shot count.

Couple things to consider, but others can give specifics on what they get.

@Smok3y - It is a full length EVOL 30. I have some 44g and 51g pellets that I can try to see if the count goes up. Just haven't shot them yet as I got a good deal on a bunch of the Zans and they group very well.
Someone else will be able to help then. I thought that size thing was going to be the ticket for you! I tried!

I'd guess the previous owner turned up the hammer spring. Measure FPS with 45 gr. pellets and report back.

For reference, I'm getting 3+ mags of 45 gr. JTS pellets @ 865 FPS at 2,100 PSI regulator pressure.

There is definately something set wrong. You should be getting at least 3 mags on the reg.

edit: What speed were you shooting the 56gr Zan's at? Using those Zan's, my gun was doing 850fps(90fpe) and I was getting 27 even shots. If you are doing more power than this then the previous owner may have changed the gun internally.

With the reg. set at 2100 psi and dumping that much air per shot, that hammer spring is probably nearly touching the hammer and a bear to cock that way. For reference, I have been as low as two magazines worth of shots at a high reg pressure and full spring tension. This waists a lot air after the pellet has left the barrel.

@woogie_man He said approx 2100 psi in post one. The reg manometer may be faulty. I've had to swap out manometers.
Crap missed that...sorry about that.

That should be a standard set point on these rifles. Start by brining out the hammer spring adjuster as much as you can. Bring it back and then slowly iincrease. I wonder if there are washers or anything added to increase the hammer tension.

I have both of those Evol's in 30 caliber and the short barrel is a good light pellet shooter and not really a slug gun. The long barrel Evol with some additional port and polish work will shoot at pretty decent speeds, even though it is still a relatively short barrelled 30 cal. Seems like I settled on 2250 psi and three turns out from full tension for a balance of power and efficiency. I can't look at my Strelok Pro numbers right now to get you any numbers for them.

That gun pictured is the short barrelled Magnon. It is going to shoot a lot slower, and shouldn't have all the spring tension thrown at it just to try to get the numbers up. All short barreled 30 calibers are slower. My suggestion would be to find a good tune that you like with a balance of efficiency and power (with the most accurate ammo it will shoot.)
