Daystate Wolverine R | .22cal ➠ How Much Power Can I Expect?

Wolverine R in .22cal:

How Much Power Can I Expect?

🤷🏻‍♂️ This is new territory for me....:
▪ I'm not finding much info on the interwebs about the Wolverine R....
▪ And Daystate is mousefart quiet about how to change the power setting.

So, please, help me out: 😊

1️⃣
How much power can I expect from the (regulated)
Wolverine R in .22cal?

⟁ Note that this is NOT the HP (HighPower) model with the long 600mm (24") barrel!
Mine is the regular powered bottle gun with the 430mm (17") barrel.

The OEM Huma regulator supposedly can be set from 100 to 170bar.

2️⃣
How can I make adjustments to the slingshot hammer of the gun?
(I don't even know how to access the hammer, let alone how to adjust it.)

3️⃣
Is tuning a system with a slingshot hammer the same as with a regular hammer?
E.g.: (a) set the regulator, (b) adjust the hammer for a hard hit to get full power, (c) reduce hammer hit force progressively with a chrony, till the velocity drops off by about 5% for a compomise of high power and high shot count.

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me. 👍🏼

Figure I should ask, since you spent the money on one and want more power than it came with. Why didn't you just buy the HP in the first place?

The previous owner set it for a very light pellet that's not consistently available in my location.
So, I'm looking into options to adjust the power to a heavier pellet, and one with a better BC. 😃

Hi Matthias:

Adjusting regulator pressure:
This video will show you how to get the regulator out of the rifle:

Adjusting hammer spring PRELOAD:
This video will show you the hammer spring assembly removed from rifle. You will see the spring, and see that it is not adjustable. However, you can shim it, trim it, or replace it with a different hammer spring.

Adjusting length of hammer THROW:
The Daystate slingshot hammer allows you to adjust the length of hammer throw. This essentially accomplishes the same thing as adjusting the preload on other rifles, as you lengthen the throw, it increases the velocity with which the hammer hits the valve.

You need a long 3mm allen key to get in the hole at the rear of action - and a 2mm allen to loosen the locking grub screw. I couldn’t find a video doing it on Wolverine - but here a a video of adjusting hammer throw on Huntsman - its the same slingshot hammer:

Daystates are adjustable, you just have a work a little more as they are not EXTERNALLY adjustable.

You guys came through for me — in less than 7 hours — most of which were night hours. 🤝🏼

Thank you, Ed, for the very helpful videos. 😃

Yeah, I'm no self-taught gun smith like so many of you here at AGN (you amaze me!). But I know a little about how to screw around inside a PCP without screwing things up too much. 👍🏼

A friend had his tuned as high as it could go in an attempt to run 25.4s as fast as a RW. It shot quite poorly and only got 16 shots per charge. He had me look at it and best I could do by simply tuning was 893 w 25.4s. The behavior was much improved.
The problem is that DS didn't desing in much plenum so it can't generate huge power.
Now considering all that, Derrick Wall did manage to get just over 50 ft lb with some valve and porting work, but from what he described to me, it was a lot of careful work for the little payoff and no one knows how durable the tune will be.
I really feel that the sweet spot for 22 cal on these is with 18 gn, maybe up to 22 gn if you can find them...

That is good advice.
I will leave it alone — it is already loud at 30FPE — can't imagine how much louder it would be at higher powers....!
