Have a Q about this rifle:
Mine has been under the bed for probably 2-3 yrs. When I put it there the tank was pretty much full @ 2000 psi. Took it out the other day....guage still read 2000!! However, I put 3-4 rounds through it, no way does the tank have that much pressure. Where it was stored was not excessive temps. Is my guage bad...do they just go bad sitting around at room temperature? Should these tanks hold pressure indefinitely...? What do I do to get it back in shooting condition? (I have not tried to pump it back up but will do so before attempting any fixes)

In my opinion is you just stored it and not used it, an oring went bad. It could have swelled up, or dried up broke up and got clogged somewhere and only allowing air to move slowly. I have a fx impact that i put in its original case under the bed with around 200bar in it, only to take it out about 5 months later and it had zero air. turned out an oring went bad and crumbled letting all the air out. This was on an airgun that was probably 8 months old.

No regulator. No mods at all. Seems like the longer I waited between shots, the more power it seemed to have.

Regarding O-ringa going bad, is there a rebuild kit for these guns?
E-bay sells one $12.50, but you can buy the o-rings at crosman more $. Just go to there site find the diagram of your gun and buy them from a O-ring store. Saves you money and you can get as many as you want and can rebuild it many times for a few bucks. Check out O-rings and more - Captain O-rings- ( The O-ring Store) is in (Wa. State) that's where I buy mine. Then look on u-tube how to work on a maximus or rebuild. Very easy to do, plus buy some silicone oil or grease. Good luck - BTW what part of Wa. are you from ?

Agree with @kayaker 100%. If no reg then it's something about swallowed or deteriorated rings. Better rebuilt and replace all O-rings. Just don't use any sort of petroleum-based lube and oil, only silicone one, or they swallow again :). Good luck!

these guns are very easy to tear down.
If you need a little visual instruction go to MagnumAir Website
You will find a two-part video on taking apart and reassembling the Benjamin Discovery.
The discovery and the Maximus are essentially identical in their construction format

also, if this were my first tear down, I would buy an O-ring kit from either Captain O-ring or the eBay sellerRWS
The O-rings will come in a package labeled for their intended use in the gun making your job a lot easier

Sorry, but I can’t post links from my phone
Hope this helps
Edward
