JSB/FX .22 pellet weights

I must say I am disappointed in the variance I see on these specific pellets. Especially, FX! I started using their 15.9/.22 pellets in my Maverick several years ago as they seemed to be a bit better, for accuracy and speed variance, than I saw in JSB version of the same pellet. I recall hearing they had their own dyes(ie. Air Arms) that JSB used when making them.Recently started seeing some variances in my speeds and accuracy, so I started weighing them and saw quite a spread in both the number of pellets and their weights. Specifically, the 15.9's had about 20% falling in the 16.2 range(15.15 and above) and 4% less than 15.7, with some as low as 15.5. I haven't checked the head or skirt sizes but would believe they vary just as much. or more cuz I'm seeing lots of mangled skirts, too.
I don't KNOW that this is the cause of the speed and accuracy issues I've seen but I'm pretty sure it contributes.
From what I have seen on this board, others have similar problems. Surprised that FX hasn't decided to move their dyes elsewhere(ie. JTS????). When you are striving for performance (I'm a bit OCD!), having pellets that are consistent would help.

I agree. I been seeing more fliers with the 25.4 grain pellets and none with the jts dead centers or the aea pellets either. I called myself gonna sort a can of aea45 grain pellets. I realized that they where very consistant in weight. The ones that where a tenth off where not many. Half way through the can I quit and went and shot them. They shot very well. Since I was back yard shooting,I've not tried to sort any aea pellets since and have had some very good targets afterwords.

It is so very sad to see the decline in the consistency of JSB's
They have dominated the market for a very long time because of their consistency
Years ago, when sorting pellets, i would have maybe 5-6 stacks of pellets after weighing.
These days, i am closer to 10(n)
The AEA and the JTS are very consistent, but they do foul the barrel easier imo
the 2 are slightly different in profile..so one may be better in your rifle than the other
I hope that JSB does a full quality control of their operation, but until then..i am using the AEA

Yeah JSB needs to seriously up their game. No more claims of supply chain or demand issues. That boat has sailed already. They've released at least 4 new pellets weights in .22 since the beginning of the year. Seems like every tin of their pellets has at least a spread of 1 grain if not more when other companies are able to keep that variance unce 0.2 grains or less. JSB - YOU CAN DO BETTER!!

You are correct, the head sizes vary as well.

Yup! Gonna try some JTS pellets real soon! Maybe will look at AEA, too.
Looked at tins of BOTH the JTS and AEA side by side in .25 & 30 caliber.
SAME aluminum tins, SAME internal foam pads, SAME looking pellet, Same weight .... different sticker/label on said tins.

In my mind am convinced there coming out of the same manufacturing facility.

The aea have has a non combustible oil on them also, they are slick. In 25 caliber the 29 grain shot better than the 33.8 in my guns. In 22 caliber the 21.9 shot just as well as the 25.4. The aea shot better than the fx 25.4 in 22 caliber, and the aea 29 grain shot better than the 33 fx pellets in 25 caliber. Seems the aea pellets are shorter and have a higher bc. The 45 grain aea in 30 caliber shoot very good as does the 50.5 grain. If it cost a little more doesn't matter when target shooting. Pay the extra and get the more accurate pellets.

Most already who have shot the JTS or AEA along side JSB or rebranded JSBs, that the JTS / AEA is one great shooting pellet !!!

The "Look Closer" comment, lost on that one  As my comment #9 was speaking JTS/AEA and not comparing to anything from JSB ;)
