N/A Jumping head firt in a rabbit hole

Im my quest to find a good slug gun to get out to 200yard and whack critters im struggling on the good fit gun. Im looking at the vulcan 3 in .30. I would like to buy a new complete gun. Not one that cost me an arm and leg and need to be completely reworked to shoot slugs fast. Im in love with the fx m4 but not crazy with a $2000 gun that needs everything replaced to push slugs. I would like to stay under $2000 is there better options than the vulcan 3.

If this is your 2nd air rifle, and you have only shot pellets.
Be prepared for the headache you will get with slugs!
not even close to be as simple a pellets
that said..
since the Impact M4 has just been released ...find yourself a deal on a new/used M3
i also like the RTI p3, but you may need the additional plenums for your distances
Good luck ..buy some tylenol
Mike

What "critters" do you want to shoot at 200 yards? That's a tall order for an air rifle even on a big rodent like a prairie dog isn't it?

I won't shoot elk at 200 yards unless I just can't get any closer. Even a rimfire rifle isn't enough for varmints at 200.

It seems an air rifle capable of ethical kills at that range would be mighty specialized.

Bt critters im talking about rabbits prarie dogs skunk and an ocasional fox

As far as shooting capability and ethical shot distance comes into play when killing for sport when ur killing cause a pest is eating your ducks chickes cats and posing a threat ro kids my ethics go out the window i want to be able to hit the critter. Ive always practiced at ranges i intend to shoot. Ive taken prarie dogs at 400 yards consistently deer out to 800 yards from a rest in deer stand. Powder burners have a pirpose hunting big game not so much for shooting around neighbors or alerting everyone in a 1/2 mile range. Im just looking for a air rifle that will consistently put a slug where i aim. And its also more fun to stretch out distance. My avenger will shoot ragged holes out to 60 yards at 120 yards pluss the pellets seem to bounce of critters or not do lethal damage

Hey there are a few of us that shoot down here in Fargo. Message me and we can get a few of us together and let you shoot some toys.

I have a DRS .25 700. It shoots a 40gr H&N heavy slug 980fps.
This makes it capable of taking prairie dogs out to 200 yards and
I have shot prairie dogs at 200 yards with it.

The DRS .25 700 classic is $1050.00, it comes with the 1:16 slug liner and the SHP plenum.

I have found the DRS to be an extremely accurate rifle.
It's also lightweight and solid.

There are currently 2 chassis upgrade option if you want to customize it.
1 from Saber Tactical $650.00 and 1 from Delta Force $1000.00, both available from Utah Airguns.

Here it is . . . https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/22-red-wolf-hp-for-sale.1292192/

Sounds like, with your experience, a head shot is no problem. A .22 slug head shot is just as lethal as a .30 for rabbits, prairie dogs, skunks and foxes.

Most accurate air gun I have at ranges past 100 yards is my Panthera 25 with a 600mm barrel. Around here our ground squirrels are slightly smaller than a dollar bill when standing straight up. I can kill them pretty reliably out to about 140-150 yards with this gun as long as the wind is minimal or nonexistent. Get any further than that and the percentages drop off to the point that I wont take the shot now that I know my limit.
I would suggest you buy the best air gun you can afford and make sure the make and model has a reputation for shooting slugs well. Once you have the gun and a slug performing well @ 100 yards, start stretching the set up’s legs and when you cannot reliably hit a business card you know what your limit is.
200 yards on critters is a long shot for anybody. The shots you see on YouTube are highlights and omit the misses and wounded animal that got away to suffer a slow death that occurred while trying to make the shot they show you.

I agree that 200 is a long way as far as small critters my range is 115 max i just want a gun capeable of further ranges. Ive just realized my avenger .25 just dosent have the lungs for slugs. Pellets dont have the range. My avenger hits around 1.5 inch at 100 yards... i have not pushed the range further yet.
