RAW HM1000x .25 cal experiences for 100y bench rest

Did you ever get your RAW back from AZ ? I was thinking of calling him to get some work done on my RAW but I'm a bit hesitant now.
Yes I did, and sold it. He has done a lot of work in the past for myself and usually it is done in a timely matter. Things change. Have not spoken to him in awhile. Good luck in whatever avenue you pursue.

You guys were talking high speeds with MRD's to get aome MOA showing up @ 100, but
nobody actually said anything about "what Twist Rate" was that ?
In the past two years I tried anything possible with .25 cal and four liners,
I gave up.... swap the liner to .22 and looking forward for the rest of the year if I can make it work.
So, to recap...
what TR for MRD high speed of 980 ish ? also, choked or not ?

These posts really tickle me. Have any of you ever shot in real life 100 yard EBR matches? It doesn't sound like it. Yes, you can determine the accuracy potential of your rifle by shooting groups in ideal conditions, but get out on the range with the wind blowing and all that theory and magic gunsmithing goes down the pooper. I've had Martin build me an HM1000x in .177 caliber and have shot in two matches so far. How does it shoot in comparison to other guns and larger calibers?? Pretty much the same. The gun is definitely competitive but the match winners are usually the ones that dope the wind the best. Pick a caliber/barrel/projectile that works the best then get to work on your marksmanship techniques.

Re: .25 cal: I did speak to a fellow shooter yesterday that has a .25 RAW and he also was befuddled with accuracy. He has four different barrels and has tried pellets and slugs of all sizes. He said that the original polygonal barrel with 25.4 gr pellets shoot the best. Well, duh: throw the other barrels in the trash and work on the original formula. That's what it was built to do. We've been led down the garden path with the super adjustable guns (read FX) and feel that we have to twiddle with them to extract the most power and accuracy, when truly they probably work best right out of the box. We need to twiddle our psyche and work on our marksmanship.

Fair points Paul. A little perspective…

I started the thread two years ago, and at the time I clearly qualified my 100Y BR experience as casual. I know Joe F is a very experienced N50 BR shooter, so I don’t imagine your comments are directed at him. There are probably other Competition EBR, RMAC, PAC,etc. shooters who have also looked at this thread and have much 100y BR experience.

My intent with the post was to ‘learn’ from other RAW .25 /.30 cal shooters, their experiences shooting BR at 100y. At the time I was struggling with my HM1000x .22 and the infamous .22 MRDs and accuracy. So, I was asking for real world user experience, which I could apply to my changing barrels from .22 to .25, or not.

Candidly, as I reread the entire post, I got the info I was after and much more. This is the main reason I like using the forum; ‘to learn from others,’ and to help as many as I can when appropriate.

I think most readers know it’s all about the wind and marksmanship, but as many have said, you need a gun that can shoot accurately too.

FWIW - I still shoot my RAW .22 HM1000X for 30-40y target challenges, N50, and ‘casual’ 100Y BR. I never did switch to .25. 😀.

Tom, Have you tried JTS 22 grain pellets? A buddy of mine just got a new RAW and it’s shooting those pellets well at 50. After reading Mbaur’s post I wonder if the lighter weight 22 grain might work at 100?

Great minds think alike! I was just thinking the exact same thing.

I have had very good luck with the JTS 18's in terms of tangible improved scoring and group accuracy at 40-50Y.

I read Mubar's post and was thinking the same.

I have The JSB Lights also which I can try.

Tim - Do you happen to know the velocity your friend had with the JTS Pellets?

have you ever tried "Beasts" with the RTI LR
i thought the slow twist and high velocity might work with the slug like shape of the beasts
i had a bunch so i set the RTI up to shoot at 81ftlbs, around 1000fps...eats air like a kid through candy, but seems a bit promising
hopefully i won't have another incident at the range and i can test it out on Wednesday

I'm shooting those and AEA 22 grain at 1,000 fps. Hole through hole at 25 yards. Gotta stretch it out next time I get a chance.

Try 990 to 1,000 fps. It's working great for me

Going to order a couple tins, thanks Tim. Given my current velocity with the 25g MRDs ( I.e., 945 FPS), I believe these will fly around 970 FPS without changing HST. Will give them a try, since the JTS 25g shoot very accurately out to 50Y.
