N/A What Next?

My springer has mag wheels and wide rear tires. Skinny ones up front. Sidepipes. Fur on the dash.
It's injected with ported heads, 15:1 compression and a 1.20 top gear from a John Deere tractor. Lucifer wrote the code for the engine control module. It runs on aviation fuel and fear.

But it still goes "boing" when I pull the trigger. Should I tune it?
I’d just hang some dice on the rear view mirror and shoot it 😎.

All you need is some snug fitting guides and the boing will go thwack.

That's a good line right there my friend.

I started typing a response and realized I had written the first few lines of a country song...

My guides are snug and my tophat is tight.

My "boing" went "thwack" and my groups got tight.

I'd love a good 77 but it keeps eluding me . Lol. Like the song says 🎵you can't always get what you want 🎶

Lol....

But ya, it be choice over a hw97 just on the sight option ..
The only springer I’d be tempted to try would be a HW 77k in .20 caliber … tuned to shoot 13.73 JSB’s at 750fps. AOA has them for $729 - free shipping.

There's only one way to know.

Brett FWIW, I have purchased 2 HW 77’s, HW 97, AA ProSport and a AA TX 200HC.
Tuned them all to shoot .177 cal pellets very well …. and then gradually sold them all because a lack of use. They were all accurate, but I never really liked the clunkiness/finickiness of an underlever.
Breakbarrels for me …………

But then again, I felt I was missing something unless I tried them.
It‘s human nature to think the grass can always be “greener”.

I have the same thoughts about getting an FX Impact 4 ……………when I already have 3 RAW HM100X’s. The underlever springers are a good reminder to work on my shooting skills instead of buying/learning/tuning another gun :).
I like the under levers. The 97 was chunky but a phenomenal shooter. The old style 77 stock is much more nimble compared to the 97. All of my HW breakers are even more nimble than than the 77. I’ve never handled the R1/80 so I can’t speak to that.

That’s awesome bro! Just embrace the twang

I really can't advise where you're headed.
I'm happy where I'm at.
I really think everyone needs an HW30, in your favorite caliber. Mine's a .20.
I first started looking at .20 cal 77s back in the early nineties, but wound up with the .20cal Twentieth Anniversary R1. That guy went in a house burglary. So recently that itch returned, and I bought the .20cal 97K blue lam. I shoot it primarily from the bench at 75y.
From the bench it is smooth handling, and can be shot semi rapid fire, but walking and shooting was clumsy for me. I haven't established a pattern for the guns cocking, loading and weight. Besides, if I want to walk and plink I'll shoot the the HW30. Lol

So?
It sounds like you have a few recommendations for, not just 97K, but specifically the .20 cal 97K.
I would add that recommendation too.
I'm sure we'll hear how this turns out.
All the best. 👍
Ok, I’ll lay it out there. I have 0 interest in the .20 cal. Don’t get me wrong, many .20 cal fans out there. I’m not a convert. Reason why? I have .177 and .22. I’m well stocked in both of those calibers and don’t want to stock another caliber. I’d love to try .20 and .25 but I decided to keep it to just .177 and .22 for convenience. Is .20 the best of both worlds? Maybe, I don’t know. Truth be told I wish I was a one gun guy but I have a problem… 😬😆🤠

It happened to me in 72, with my first Sheridan, and the impression the .20 cal rifle made over all the local Benjamin's and Crosman's in .177 and .22s that I've shot. I went from taking 5 shots with my .177 Benji to kill a squirrel to one shot one kill. I also had better penetration and accuracy, than freinds with .22 cal Benji's.

I see the break point these days, as a power to stability scenario, but it's only speculation at this point. In my mind it goes like this, when the power exceeds the pellet stability, go up a caliber, bring the speed down and get your stability back along with some other benefits.
👍

is that .177 and .20? Big difference there .
these are .22. I thought it was cool to see the shiny spots where the rifling and pellet met. Ended up being a cool picture I thought.

I hope I didn’t come off as bashing your vote for the 97 in .20 or .20 cal?

If I did, I sincerely apologize. 🙏🏼

When I reread it this morning it came off like I was being short in my response. That was NOT my intent. It was more a written reminder to myself why I’m avoiding .20 and .25. I have to firm with myself sometimes because I have very little self discipline. 😕😆

I appreciate everyone’s response to this thread. It has helped me to decide where/what I want to try next. I Have found a nice looking TX200 hunter carbine for sale for what seems like a good price but I already placed a WTB ad here for the .22 77 with old style stock. I doubt I’ll find one but I’m hopeful. I am pretty much telling myself that I will end up buying new and modifying or swapping the stock with a custom or one that I will make.

I don’t want this conversation to end. While I am searching to scratch the itch, my mind will shift many times I’m sure. I may end up with something completely different than what my sights are set on at this moment… SQUIRREL 🐿️
