I saw a video about taking out the spring an stretching it from 3.5 in to 4 inches. The premise was that the stronger spring will how the valve open longer and there for increase the air pressure. After the conversion the chronograph showed 700 FPS out of the AirBug. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Scam? Other than burning through the CO2 cartridge faster any other problems

Is it the .177 or the .22? A stiffer spring will increase the velocity but the long barrel in tye video does much more in this regard. Even that being said. I suspect you will only get maximum of about 600fps in a .177.

The problem with stretching springs is that they go back to the original size after being compressed for some time.
I played around with different length and stiffness of springs, extra weight and such on my Chaser and Trailscout (similar setup as the Airbug), and the differences were minimal. Like Septicdeath wrote, barrel length, or temperature of the CO2, made a much bigger difference.
I didn't play around with the actual valving and porting, so maybe gains can be had there.

Thank you, gentlemen. Gives me something to think about. The spring going back is a factor I didn't think of. Plinking and possible ratting (the outdoor Mc Caw is a attractant. 400 FPS with a 12 grain .22 pellet is something over 4 FPE. Enough for a rate. Plenty for a soda can.

so, he his rear tube plug spring guide just popped out and the chances of that happening on a Chaser is 0% you will have to take the pistol all apart and drive it out with a tube that will go over the guide and a hammer and i have had to smack them hard
now you could shim the spring it will take some and the power gained will be not much but too many and it will not cock i know
the barrel on the Chaser is too short, the Bandit barrel would be better but they have but disappeared
finding a Stormrider or Chaser rifle barrel and cut it down to say 10-13 inches would be a great help but those are impossible to find and you can thank the importers
so in the end will all this be worth it, maybe-maybe not
