Resources Creating Dope - my stubborn way

Of late I've become frustrated with "MY" lack of understanding using strelock pro or airgun elite.
So to create the best dope for the best chance of accuracy I have created my cavedweller methodology which i do after having confirmed and set my ZERO.
I create and validate dope by using a 5”x7” 1/8” or larger graph card stock, i even have some 11"x14" 1/8" graph paper which works just as well.

I draw a horizontal line across it the top of the paper an inch down and add vertical tick marks at 1” apart.

On a zero wind day shooting from a bench I do the following:

Beginning at 10 yards, I place graph card level and from a benchrest on a zero wind day, I put my bullseye on first points of intersecting tick and line and shoot.

I then carefully access my poi and annotate holdover.

I then put that holdover point on the first poi hole and shoot - in a perfect world the pellet will be hole on hole.

I repeat this from 10 to 60 yards moving 1/2 yard at a time from 10-22 yards then in 1 yard increments thereafter.

Lots of movement and exercise but the DOPE is SOLID!

Whew!

Added benefit is I am also double checking my ranging for accuracy at the same time.

Well what you are doing is in my estimation the final step after consulting the electromagic answer machine.

i do not compete so my methods are more..loose.

i use the program to get a rough zero at the top of the arc, 17-25 depending on the gun.
Then I shoot and shoot to learn the holdovers.

Not very in depth, but gets me chippy heads at 40-50 yards.

Very nice, and I understand it!

I will endeavor to capitalize my I unlike my last post, and to take one of my wadcutter guns to this task. I likely won’t make any changes to it again so this may be a good one to document. 30 yards and closer.

I was going to try clicking one of these days.
You won’t regret it 🔥

I created a pellet drop calibration target a while back. similar to what you have going on there. it has calibrated graphs for both MIL and MOA.
It's posted on our site for downloading.

Cheers.

Gerret,

I checked out some of your targets, they look awesome and I'll be using a couple of them.

Quick question about using the "Field Target Scope & Pellet-Drop Calibration Targets" at what distance are they placed?

Not to take away from Cavedwellers post as I believe we are all looking to figure out our rifle/scope combinations a little better.

Thanks,

John

@Smitty911, John, as i looked at the pellet drop target, i see it as the target being placed (moved with each shot) to the specified distance listed in "the individual blocks". me thinks.

I was thinking that, but wanted to make sure before I started. Looks like I'll need to break out the rest and a tape, lay off the Monsters and get some work done.

trick is to find a zero wind day and time and shoot from the most stable platform possible so you can work your way out from 9.5 yards to where ever you call it quits.... my EFT rigs i go yard by yard after 30 yards out to 100 yards.

This a fine tuned and adjusted "Chair gun" created dope card.
While hold values are in 100ths ( 2 decimal places ) it does allow knowing the EXACT theoretical POI in "Mils" as viewed threw optics.
Any thing 4 yards +/- or more off my 25 zero i start leaving the center of KZ and do not make the mistake the Zero range is as broad as many assume it to be. Errors in ranging distance, poor lighting or beat out KZ's can and will bite you !! Free wisdom ;)
