I ended up picking up a used .357 Max and tuned it down to be a backyard night pesting gun. This one probably gets the most use now out of my entire collection.

My AEA HP SS in .22 has many issues.
I have owned one for a week only, and in that time it failed in many ways.
If you own an AEA semiautomatic you better know how to fix them.

The rod/plunger attached to bolt and piston (inside shroud) has disconnected twice from the bolt.
I manged to reattach the bolt.
The 3 magazines stopped working.
I am working on fixing them.
The trigger stopped working after I reattached the rod and had to adjust a gap in the shroud.

125+ fpe out if a non regulated gun, short barrel non working shrouded gun, is going to be on the loud side.

But then again are you buying a .357 airgun for plinking?

More like 180 to 200 fpe depending on caliber with the M50 5" barrel pistol. Which is essentially an HP Max and has "HP Max" laser etched on it.

And yes it's quite loud... it'll pop your eardrums if you forget protection.

There are barrel / air tank kits available now so you can convert the pistol to a long gun, and vice versa.

The rod has disconnected for the 3rd time today.
That rod screws into the bolt, and I think it is stripped.

Well with a $2200 budget, if he was looking for something like an FX, I think that outcome was predictable.

i got a DonnyFL adapter for the Max but the adapter doesn’t fit any of the ldc’s I have (which all use a common standard). Does anybody make adapters for DonnyFL adapters? LOL. I should have known it would have a larger diameter I guess.
Donny fl makes them

I got the 22CAL HP MAX SEMI AUTO....THIS GUN,,, I HAD TO FIGHT,,, THE HARD TO PULL BOLT ,,,, AND CHEEP MAGS WAS DIFFICULT TO PULL AND TAKE OUT ..MEANY MISSFIRE,,, PELLETS WOULD PILE UP IN MAG AND OR BARREL.... """" DEFINITELY PELLET FUSSY""""..AFTER 6 FILLS.. THE GUN WOULDN'T FIRE ANY MORE..AEA SHOULD HAVE A BOLTNOCH ON GUN TO HOLD IT WHEN CHANGING MAGS..I FELT LIKE I WAS FIGHTING THE GUN THE HOLE TIME...THE GUN ISN'T CHEEP 500$ NOT HAPPY ,,,NOT MEANY SHOT...36 SHOT PER FILL, SEMI AUTO WORKS SOME TIMES .. SEEMS LIKE I HAVE NO LUCK WITH. IT...AEA SHOULD HAVE BETTER MAG FOR THERE GUNS...TO MUCH PLAY FOR SEMI AUTO.. I believe clipping pellets Jamed the gun in some way and ... I read the manual and it said not to take the gun apart.i The gun is VERRY ACCURATE Powerful,,, BUT sloppy MAGS pellets jam the gun alot.. CHEEP mags makes this gun,,, no fun... my hands are sore from pulling the bolt BACK..
I EXPECTED A LOT MORE FROM AEA... "REALLY DISAPPOINTED"
Ae. Swede mags change the character of the gun. No more jams and smooth cycling. I have td carbine in 25 and aea SF in 30. Swede mags make them fun. I also got them for my hp max 35.

I have Swede mags for my TD in 25 and SS in 22. Makes a world of difference in reliability. I made bolt handles for mine to give it more grip. And for increasing power I made some bushings that fit in the back of stock on the guide rod. You can also adjust spring pressure down by unscrewing stock some.
Make sure the bolt handles are not to heavy. Added weight will make the bolt rod snap off. Happened to me. Pellet shop fixed it

I have several thousand rounds on mine. Made them for others have not had a problem. I use aluminum and handle is hollow. The rod you talk of is hardened. Has a hole drilled through most of it. It will fatigue after a while and break at the tapped hole. Had one do that couple years ago at about 5k rounds. A heavy bolt also throws the cycle off and it will not load consistently. I have three AEA's. Two HP's and a 30 Terminator. Terminator is a tank.
