Best Texan .457 long barrel scope

I am looking to buy a new scope but not sure what to get. I have a UTG 4x16x44 swat milldot scope on it now. Just really getting into airgunning and the whole scope thing is overwhelming. I have been looking at the Hawke scopes and read alot of great things about them but just do not know what to get. I like this one but would like one with A little more magnification, but the same reticle!!

Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 AO Rifle Scope, AMX Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1" Tube

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

@Poke-E it’s very difficult for someone else to be able to tell you what’s best for you. We don’t have your eyes, not do we know what you’re thinking.

What type of shooting do you intend on doing? What range? Which type of targets?
Good point!!! My eyes are in pretty good shape and I can see about average I would say. I will be using my Texan to deer hunt. My longest shot will be at 100 yds. Deer and hogs are the only game I plan to shoot with it. I will also be doing a lot of target shooting with it off of a bench. The targets will range from 50 - 200 yds.

@Poke-E Will you be hunting from a tree stand/hunting blind, or using a spot-and-stalk method? Do you know if you want a digital scope (day/night scope) or a traditional riflescope? You'd definitely benefit from an illuminated reticle on a traditional rifle scope. Do you prefer first or second focal plane scopes? Do you prefer to use holdovers or dial your turrets?

I will be hunting from a three stand and box blind. I do not want a digital scope just a traditional scope with a Christmas tree type reticle for more holdover options. Second focal plane and I prefer to use my holdovers!! With the being said I am not closed minded to something different. I do know that I want something with a bigger eye box, and clear, quality glass in it.

@Poke-E Have you looked into any Hawke scopes? Something like an Airmax? If you really want something affordable and aren’t a turret dialer check out an Alpha 6 scope 6-24x50mm SFP IR scope by Aim Sports. The glass is pretty nice for the price point. You can probably find one for less than or around $300. Some folks complained of slop in the turrets. I didn’t dial mine enough to notice if there was any.

I have looked at some of the Air Max scopes and like them. Pyramid air actually has this on sale for $200 right now......

Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 AO Rifle Scope, AMX Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1" Tube.

I am going to check out the Alpha 6 scope to!

I would say $500 maybe a little more. I just got the UTG because I did not know any better. I thought it was a good quality scope until I started doing some research. I bought the Dragon claw 2 combo from pyramid air and it came with a UTG scope. So I guess that is really all I knew about scopes, lol... I was just considering a hawke.scope because I have seen a lot of good things about them from Air Gunners

@Poke-E On that case I’d check for an Athlon scope. The one @steve123 recommended is a scope many AGN members seem to like. Also check out an Arken scope. Many AGN members seem to like them as well. It’s a good time to check becados there are some Labor Day sales and you may be able to save some money. *Caveat - I do not own an Arken. I mentioned them because so many other members speak highly of them for the price point. I have shopped at both shops and they’re good to go in my book.

I like these shops.

Sounds good, I watch a couple of videos about them and am super impressed!!!! AGN members are definitely on to something!!!!
Soooo, after much debating I ordered the Arken (EPL-4 6-24X50 FFP Illuminated VHR∕VPR - Zero Stop - 30mm Tube). The deciding factor for me was the reticle!!!! Both all three scopes appear to be on about the same level for what I am looking for. The split reticle with mil dot center is what did it for me. I have never own one but really like the ones I have seen people hunting with!!! I really do as always appreciate y'all's help!! It was a Hawke scope for me when i posted the question but y'all definitely pointed me in the exact direction I needed, as always!!!! Thanks again!!!
