EDgun Wanted: PCP recommendations for long-timer springer user

Hey all, as the title reads, I've owned my weihrauch 97k for a little over three years and really enjoy it. I've been thinking about entering the PCP market and have a fairly large budget to drop on a PCP.

Things I like about my springer:
It's (relatively) quiet - does not break the sound barrier.
Accurate within 25 yards.
Ammo is plentiful and cheap.
Low maintenance

Things I don't like:
It's heavy. Not a problem for sitting but standing positions can get cumbersome.
It's not consistent/precise outside of 25-30 yards.
Single-shot makes it impossible to get another shot down range when hunting.

I will be using this gun mainly to hunt and occasional plinking. Form factor and weight/portability are important. Semi-auto would be nice. Tank capacity is not crucial. Range out to 50 yards would be nice.

I have my eyes on the EDgun Leshiy 2 in .22. I will primarily be taking out squirrels. Are there any other brands/models that fit this bill?

Any opinions on compressors? I think I'd prefer this route as compared to hand pumps. Looking for reliability and smaller form factor, keep cost ~$750 or lower.

@orinthesnow So you want to spend $750 or less on a compressor. What's your budget for an air rifle? The Leshiy 2 will run you $2000-$2500. BRK and Daystate make good rifles.

As a good beginning PCP rifle, my suggestion would be either an Air Venturi Avenger or Avenge-X. Both guns have a good following with lots of Youtube videos and available information, not to mention support for parts from PyramidAir. As for a compressor, I have two GX 3 compressors ( GX3 & GX3-I) that have served me well for a number of years and parts are available through Bill at Target Forge. Just my 2 cents.

I think all-in I don't want to go much above 3k, airgun and compressor included.

I think I can find a used leshiy in the 2k ballpark, new is about 2.4k. Which is why I put compressor at 750.

A Leshiy is a good choice. For other lighter options you could also take a look at FX Impact or Maverick or Wildcat. What Cal are you planning for? 22 Cal is my favorite for a great balance of ammo variety, performance, and cost.

Thanks for the recommendation. 22 is what I'd prefer, maybe 25 if I got a decent deal.

Brocock Products like the Commander XR would fit the bill nicely as does a Daystate Revere! Maybe start with a 100 CI carbon fiber bottle and have a dive shop or another shooter fill it. Both Brocock and Daystates have excellent warranty and service

Recommending a gun is like recommending a wife, they're all expensive but very different. Personally, I do not like bullpup platforms for hunting. They are short and handy, but are noticeably more difficult to shoot well, at least for me. I have a Taipan Veteran, which is one of my favorite rifles, but I would choose my Revere, HW100, or Royale 400 for hunting. Having experience with a Weihrauch 97, you might also find the short stuff more difficult.

Pick up one of the remaining new Taipan Veteran 1 , bullpups, in .22 . Half the price of many of the top tier airguns and is very well built with consistent accuracy , quiet and so nice to shoot. My standard length is 7.4lbs so its lighter than most springers and much shorter with all the benefits of a longer barrel . They come with 2 mags and a single shot tray and are exceptional value for the quality you get .

@orinthesnow keep in mind that owning a handpump or owning a compressor are not the only two options for filling. You can also own a SCBA tank and get it filled at a local scuba or paintball shop (and sometimes your local fire station). This is by far the most efficient option, IMO, for most casual shooters. Compressors can be costly, fiddly and often require ongoing maintenance. Also keep in mind that if you go the compressor route you will also need the proper equipment to dry the air...more expense and maintenance. With air from a dive shop or fire station you are guaranteed by regulations that the air will be properly dry since it is typically intended for human breathing and life saving equipment. To me, this alone is a huge benefit.

As for a gun, I would recommend the FX Dreamline for your situation. One of the best lines ever produced, IMO. But it's not as sexy as the others, so it never really got the attention it deserved.

For a better initial experience, support and parts down the road I would suggest avoiding China guns. Two really bad experiences for me with both Umarex (Gauntlet) and Air Venturi (Avenger).

SCUBA shops will require a current hydro and in date cylinders and possibly a visual inspection and with life limited tanks they must be within date and cylinders must have a DOT certification.
